How many 'risers' do you all use?

Just curious.

I use just one riser on the large step and I just added another riser (making it 5) to the mini step.

I use 6 for the mini-step and 1 for the long step, and I am 5'8" with relatively short torso, but the impact is too much to do step with an 8" platform anymore, as I am pushing 50. I use 8" for LowMax though.

I think I may add another riser to the high step.

Anyone off the top of their head know what workouts cater around the high step? I have a few step workouts now that I just bought - but I wanted to add a few high step workouts...and which ones are more intense??

High Step Challenge and High Step Training Advanced cater to the high step. I think that HSTA is a bit more challenging than HSC, but they are both great workouts.

I usually use 1 riser (6") for Cathe's workouts and 2 risers for Low Max and several other instructors' workouts. I used to use 2 risers all the time, but decided I'd rather add power than height.

For the high step, I use anywhere from 3-5 risers, depending on how much weight I'm using (more weight, fewer risers, less weight, more risers) or if I want variety .HSTA has SOOO may leg presses, to avoid doing the same exact movement over and over again, I try to change them up with almost every set, doing some at 14", some at 12" and some at 10", some off the sides of the step as well to hit the inner thigh more.

I'm 5'10, but I only use a 6" step. I find I get a better workout - and burn more calories. Go figure. It works for me.

My heart rate goes nowhere if I do regular step on a six inch step; I wear a Polar F 4 HRM. It doesn't matter how much I power up my moves and how high I raise my arms. Even when I am doing step on eight inches, I still have to sometimes add impact to get my HR up. I think it is the many years of long distance running that did this to me. By the way, I am 5'2" tall.

For high step advanced, because of the many leg presses, I don't always use the fourteen inch height. For IMAX 3 and most of IMAX 2, I bump the step down to six inches. Everyone is different, and we have to do what works best for us.

I currently use only four risers but I need to purchase another to make 14 inches . Target falsely advertised it as being a 14 inch high step. So beware if you purchase from them.
