Hi,everyone!! I just signed up and am very excited! I have been working out consistantly for awhile now and feel I am ready for a new challege!!:) From what I hear,Cathe is THE way to go!! I am thinking about ordering Basic Step and Body Fusion since I want something intermediate and don't want to get overwelmed. Is that a good one to start with?
I am looking forward to "talking" with all of you and getting started with Cathe's workouts! Any advice would be so appreciated! Thanks!! Judy

Hi Judy, welcome! What stepping experience do you have? If you have done step before, Basic Step/Body Fusion may actually be a bit easy for you. As far as weight training....what equipment do you have? And lastly, how much money are you looking to spend b/c we love spending other ppl's money, hehe!

Tell us a little more about yourself and your goals and we can steer you in the right direction!

Welcome Judy.

Cathe is the Best! You're at the right place. It can be overwhelming. More info. will be helpful cause there are great fitness people here that have done the DVDs to get you going.
Viewing the clips are useful too also the opinions do help.

Welcome Judy:)

Basic step and body fusion is a great start, most catheletes start off with those. I still do body fusion now;-) Low impact step and Low impact circuit are also some good intermediate workouts!

Eventually you'll own them all;-)!Cathe is addictive!LOL

See ya around.....

Hi Judy welcome to Cathe's forum.

BS and BF are a great way to start out because she reviews each of her "famous" moves for step aerobics and weight training. What type of workouts did you do in the past?

Hmm, that username seems familiar to me...were/are you a member of Leslie Sansone's board as well???? My name's Jerry..I think we chatted a bit while I was there for a trial membership.

Welcome to Cathe's club. If you're looking for a challenge, look no further, these workouts do take it to thew next level..and Basic Step & Body Fusion is the best intro to Cathe. I have it, in addition to others. I love kickboxing, and have her Kick, Punch, and Crunch and Kick Max and LLLLOOOOOVVVVEEEE them!!

I'll be getting Muscle Max next!!

I still do Leslie's tapes along with my wife for days when Cathe has worn me to a frazzle...still the best walking tapes, bar none.

Welcome!

Jerry

Welcome to the madness Judy. Yes, you will eventually get all of the DVD's, LOL. I would also add to the other suggestions that you get a type of workout you enjoy - step, kickboxing, whatever. Cathe's workouts can all be easily modified until you are ready to kick it up a notch.

hi juberanna nd welcome

basic step/body fusion i have heard is the way to go when starting with cathe. don't forget to take a look at her clips. they are a bit longer but they really give you a great idea of the workout!! i think any of the weight workouts are okay to start with. jus tmake sure you use weight that is comfortable with you and not compete with the others in the videos. i know there are plenty of videos that i can't even keep up with cathe in weight loads or reps LOL.

Welcome, Judy! I have only been doing Cathe since April (and came to the boards around then, too) but I already do almost nothing else but Cathe workouts. No one else seems both as tough and fun as Cathe's stuff!

Hi Judy!

Welcome to the forum. You also might want to try High Step Circuit or Low Impact Step.

:) WOW,THANKS for all the replies! Logging on today,I was shocked, and thrilled,to see all the responses! This is so cool! JERRY,YES,I remember you! Wondered what the heck happened to ya! Happy Belated Birthday,by the way!!:)
Just to tell ya a bit more about myself. I am 44 years old(but age,who cares?;) ) I have lost 60 pounds with WW and Leslie Sansone's workouts (my second time around, gained it all back the first time, sad but true!). I did Leslie's walks exclusively for nearly 5 years but her workouts just stopped having any effect on my body and I have plateaued,I have 30 more pounds to lose! I have some weight training experience since I do Jari Love's Ripped workouts every once in awhile. I have tried the FIRM and have stepped using the TransFIRMer but am pretty new to the whole step experience. But I really like the effect stepping has on my legs!!
Watching a couple of clips,I am so impressed with Cathe's style but, right now, need something that won't frustrate me too much. I consider myself an intermediate exerciser. That's why I am leaning towards Basic Step and Body Fusion to get me started. Seeing how helpful you guys are, I know you'll lead me in the right direction! :) I am so excited to get started,I have been stagnant,fitness-wise,for several months now, only by using Jari's workouts was I able to start seeing more improvement which is how I got started with weights.
I have a step and several sets of weights,I would consider buying a barbell or borrowing my husbands (he doesn't use it anyway LOL!!).
I am a bit confused,is Basic Step and Body Fusion strictly cardio or is there also weight work involved? I thank all of you,in advance, for putting up with my rambling and all my questions. Cathe has alot out and it's a bit confusing just coming in! :) :) Judy

hey judy

basic step is all step cardio, body fusion is a cardio/weight circuit alternating cardio and weights. she also includes 3 mini workouts for upper body, lower body, and abs. i believe you need tubing for this workout as well. they sell a set at target with ball, one set of weights, step, and tubing with several workouts. but i don't think you need all that. most tubing exercises can be modified with weights.

and take that barbell from dh LOL, if he won't use it i am sure you will find great use for it.

I've been borrowing my husband's barbell (he also doesn't use his), but would like to have a more user-friendly one, soon. His I have to use pliers to change the weights!

Anyway, when I started stepping, I got Basic Step first, and quickly mastered it. Sometimes I would do it a couple times in a row to get a longer workout, because it's pretty short. Then I moved on to Low Impact Step--it's definitely the next step (no pun intended) if you're new to step aerobics. It's slightly more complex than Basic Step. It also includes a separate weight workout called Total Body Sculpting. After that it was Low Max (step with high intensity intervals) and Low Impact Circuit (step and weights alternating circuits). These are great to start with because her low impact stuff is also usually her less complex stuff. And of course you can add jumps for more intensity to these. I didn't do Body Fusion right away because my first DVD was actually Basic Step + Cardio & Weights (which came with my step), but Body Fusion is a better partner to Basic Step--it's a good beginner to intermediate workout.

If you're relatively new to step I'd purchase Basic Step/Body Fusion, but I would also purchase Low Impact Step/Total Body Sculpting as well in case you master the first dvd quicker than you thought.

Welcome Judy. I noticed a big change in my body when I started doing Cathe, I think you will be very pleased with your results a few months down the road, if not sooner. You may also want to try Cardio and Weights, a good intermediate. I also got pyramid upper and lower body and muscle endurance, but adjusted my weights. I used 3,5,8 lbs. to start and worked my way up. Another suggestion is to only weigh yourself once a month. When you build muscle, your weight loss may slow. I see no weight loss at all until the last few days of the month and then I'll lose 5 lbs. overnight! Sometimes you may not lose weight, but you'll go down in pant size. Additionally, you may want to look at the rotation schedules, which I found extremely helpful. Good luck.
