Heart rate question?

I am not sure if you can answer this but I was wondering why sometimes when I do a chest workout or arm workout, why my heart rate monitor will sometimes give a reading in the 200's? My heart is definitely not beating that fast. It is not even close. I know it is a false reading but I was wondering if you knoew why it happened?

Thank you
Rachel

Does it consistently show 200s? If not, it could be shooting up super fast as you work to get the weights up - just a quick spike would show that. Otherwise, it could be wonky b/c you are lying down or at least lying back. Those are my 2cents!

Not Cathe .... but.... my HRM does not always get the right reading at first, especially the one on my treadmill.

I assume the monitor tracks a couple beats and does an estimate, and as it continues to monitor your rate, it self corrects. My monitor often gives me a reading of 200 when I start something, when my real rate is maybe 75. it rapidly drops down to something close to my actual rate. you also may not be perspiring enough to transmit an accurate rate. you can pre wet the strap to help that. also if I get the sensor part of the strap too far left or right, it will give me a funny reading until I move it to a better spot. HTH.
