Have you ever googled yourself?

It always scares me when I do this. Way too much personal info out there. I am furious at the alumni magazines who decided to publish the births of my children online, names and birthdates included. Grrr!

Jodi - I had a problem with an alumni website too! They posted my graduation dates, current address, husband's name, even a picture! I had to call them and get them to take me off.

I just sent them an irate email. Glad I quit telling them stuff! I had no idea it would end up all over the web!!

When I googled my name all I found were some Cardio Coach reviews. Shocking!! :p :D

ETA, Nance, my FB page doesn't come up either. And my name (first and last), with my spelling, are much more common than I realized.

I just tried it and found myself (only professionally, and all positive, gratifyingly), a German tango dancer, an art photographer, a dance artist from Pennsylvania, and a housewife from Dallas who donated mad quantities of money to various political campaigns. I immediately checked on the political donations and happily, the other Lisa supports the same party I do. I don't know why, but I felt relieved.

I've googled my real name before and gotten nothing about me.

I googled my username a few days ago and got a quilting store in CA, a 16-yr old GUY on Facebook, and a blogger in MA? among others.

Here I thought I was being original.

I'm too scared to google myself. I find it so invasive. A friend of mine found me from doing something similar to google and it listed things I won from a radio contest. It just freaks me out that personal information isn't personal anymore.

Bam

I used to come up with all the stuff I write, but now there is a marketing/media whore with the same name monopolizing all of the Google pages with "our" name. Slut.;)

About finding your facebook pages and stuff, there might be some privacy settings in facebook that you can change so that doesn't come up when people google you. I have a facebook acct. and if you google my name nothing comes up, and I know I have my privacy settings set to the max.

Thought that might help!

I once googled my brother because I was told by another family member that he had a MySpace page. I'm not on MySpace, but I wanted to see if I could find at least some info on it (so I could tease him, of course).

I googled the user name she gave me, and I did get some hits, but not at all what I was expecting. In fact, I got some pretty...um...interesting stuff I'm quite sure he doesn't want the rest of the family to know about. With his photo, I might add, so I know it was him.

I wrestled with the idea of telling him, if only to warn him to be a little more careful about what he puts out there. I ended up chickening out though. I think he would have been horrified that even I found it.

I put in my name, city and state and up came my full address and telephone number on "phonebook".
