Hardcore Maniacs check in for March 8,2009 Sunday

WD

Cathlete
Today is a rest day for me. Really feeling my hamstrings and glutes this morning. Thought I should be feeling some doms in my biceps and back today but have none. Next week I will get back to doing STS Mon,Wed, Fri which I think will be better if STS continues with deadlifts in back and legs workouts.

Shana, thanks for the kind words:)

Morning all. How are you? Diane Sue - you deserve a rest day!

I will have to take mine tomorrow - I have a busy day starting early. So today - I will do either legs and glutes or PLB. Not sure which one. They are both good workouts

Have a great day everyone. BBL to post which work out I did.

Ally: Enjoy your leg workout- I love both of those! I think L&G is my favorite, though. It just flies by for me.

Diane Sue: I'm hoping for butt DOMS from STS, lol. I never feel sore there anymore. I made the loaded salmon salad from Muscle Chow the other night, btw. I liked it- wasn't sure that blueberries and asparagus should be in the same dish but wow, it was terrific.

Shana / Hermia: I will join you in the itty bitty club- I'm a 34A and agree that working my chest muscles has helped me in that department. I, ahem, also think that post nursing I really needed an extra lift. Ah, the joys of motherhood.

STS is on the agenda for me later. I am heading to Trader Joe's right now- the amount I spend on produce is crazy.

Patti, I thought the same thing about the blueberries and salmon but it was perfect with the honey mustard:) I don't experience a lot of doms anymore but have definitely had some with STS so far.

I ended up doing Pyramid Lower Body -= wanted to see how heavy I could go with dumbbells with my new versa grips. i did really well. Heavier than before.

take care all and have a great week.

Hey Maniacs!

Ally...Very impressive on those tricep dips yesterday!
Dallys...OMG, the bridesmaids dress sounds awful. I hate that you have to spend money on something you know you are only going to wear one time!
Diane Sue...I missed the part of DH getting new job....are you having to move far from where you are now?
Patti...Made me smile to read..."kids are running through the house screaming". I miss those days.
Char...Hope you enjoyed your quiet time. I LOVE having the house to myself!

Heading to the gym....doing Chest and Back today.

Hey Peeps!

How the heck are you lovely ladies???? Well, we made it back from Mexico without getting taken. Whew! It seemed pretty much the same...maybe more policia than normal and a little less crowded. I'm sure all of this stuff is hurting their tourism. And now with all of the warnings to the college kids about not going to Mexico for spring break...that's gotta hurt. I feel sorry for the families who rely on tourism for their income. It's such a depressed economy anyway.

We had a gym in our condo complex so I didn't miss a workout the whole time. I took my normal rest day on Sunday. I only did cardio, HIIT, twice though. I wanted to be sure to keep up on the lifting as I try to gain muscle. I ate really well but unfortch I lost weight while I was there. NOT happy about that and haven't been able to gain it back yet even though I haven't done any cardio since I returned in hopes of gaining it back. I plan to start cardio again tomorrow. I feel like I'm fighting a losing battle sometimes. I have a new goal (actually found a pic of someone) and DH says I will need to gain about 20 lbs to get there. I'm gonna need to eat A LOT!!! I could do it if I could eat all of the wrong things. But then I don't think I'd have the body I want. :p

Ally - Thanks for mentioning the Versa Grips. I just went and ordered some. I can no longer hold onto the bar very well when doing deads b/c it's gotten too heavy and we have some very old lifting straps but it takes me forever to wrap the second one with only one hand! My form is starting to suffer so I end up hurting my back. Do you like them?

Diane Sue - What's this about a new job for DH? Are you moving??? Will you be moving away from the grandkids? I just ordered Muscle Chow yesterday since I remembered you talking about it so much and I have to eat so much more. I hope it helps!

Sonya - How do you like your new gym? Has it been fun?

Patti - Go heavy on a bunch of walking lunges and I guarantee you'll be sore in your glutes the next day! Always does it for me. Just top off your STS workout with a couple of sets of those. ;)

I'll go put a couple of Mexico pics in my PictureTrail album. I put them all in Facebook and I'm so lazy anymore to put them in both places.

Later skaters!

Suz, I was starting to wonder where you went. Good for you keeping the workouts up while on vacation. I think the only way to increase that muscle weight is to up the clean calories along with the weight work. Cut back on the cardio. So are you going to share some vacation pictures?? :) There are some great recipes and good information in Muscle Chow. I am sure that you will find it helpful.

Diane Sue - Yeah, that supposed "undercover investigation" at work with the internet usage kinda sucks. Other people aren't that worried and they are still surfing the web but I don't feel comfortable. We are possibly facing some major budget cuts and I think we should all be watching our p's and q's. As for the muscle gain, I've been increasing my weights pretty steadily and am amazed at what I can lift for my skinny little self! It's the eating that is killing me. I just don't feel like it. I keep reading on BB from the guys and gals that you have to eat whether you feel like it or not. It's just all a part of your training. I felt like I was going to turn into a chicken in Mexico b/c of how much of it I ate! :p We bought oatmeal and eggs so I was able to eat that in the mornings too. I just posted some Mexico pics on my PictureTrail album. For the amount I've gone up in weight in my legs I was saddened to see how skinny they looked. :( It motivates me to keep eating though...and I have totally cleaned up my diet in the past few weeks to the past month too so that may have something to do with it. I just need to find the right balance.

So...about the new job???

Diane Sue - Oh, and I forgot to address the cardio comment (you know me...and you...and cardio). As much as it's going to kill me, DH just talked me into cutting my cardio back to 3 days a week. He tried to get me to cut it back to 3 days a week, 20 minutes a time. HA! Can't do that, especially b/c of cycling season. But I will cut it back to 3 days a week of an hour of intense cycling in the basement until I start riding outside. Then my morning rides will be an hour and 20 minutes and my weekend ride will be 2-3 hours. I will really have to increase my calories at that point. But it will still be less than last year. And if I can't keep up with my friends b/c I'm not riding as much, then so be it. My goals are different this year. And hopefully I'll enjoy cycling A LOT more this year. Last year I just dreaded it so much. So you heard it here first! I have never done this little cardio before in my life. I'll have to make sure to keep a clean diet b/c otherwise the cellulite will creep up (not that it's totally gone, but...).

Suz, if you keep the calories clean and low fat you shouldn't have a problem with cellulite creeping back up;) I know what you mean about 20 minutes of cardio. I always feel like that is barely getting warmed up LOL You just have to make it really intense. I have been keeping it down part of the week but having a longer cardio on the non weight days and doing more stretching and flexibility stuff in place of the extra cardio time I would have done. My weight is still about the same. Went up 3# but it went back down. I think that was due to eating out and birthday parties. And look here I am telling you about eating and cutting back LOL Although I will say I love to eat. Just get busy and have a hard time spreading it out. But I usually make up for it somewhere:p Wish my ankles and calves didn't look like such little pegs. I try to build them but not a lot of luck. I checked your picture trail. You look great. I can really see the definition in your arms coming out. Love the swimsuits:)

Good evening!

Did STS with DH this afternoon. We had fun. I totally kicked his butt, though. :p I really liked it- did better than I thought on the push ups. I did go to my knees for a few in the very beginning for about 12 of them (the 30 in a row after two other sets) but the rest I did them on my toes! Yay! I did feel like there was equipment everywhere- I'm sure I'll adjust but today it was nuts, especially with both of us doing it at the same time. I feel good though, not overdone. It was not puke worthy, lol. I think that's a good thing. ;) My 1RMs were pretty close- a few I could go heavier and only one did I have to go lighter. All in all, I was happy.

Suz: So good to hear from you! Great job on continuing your workouts on vacation- that must make you feel good.

Sonya: OMG, great abs! I love the new picture. :) Yes, I love the noise and chaos at having 2 wee ones 21 months apart. They fight, but are also best friends. I'll miss it when my house is quiet again. :)

Diane Sue: I don't like eating out for that reason- the weight jumps never seem worth it in the end. I just prefer to cook and know what I'm getting.

Have a good evening everyone!

Hey Maniacs! Just got back from a 37 mile bike ride. REALLY feeling it because we were riding into the wind both ways:p! I changed my pedaling to the easier gears (cuz dh told me I need to do that and get away from always pushing the hard gears, which I like) and that wore me out too. Had a great ride though.:D

Sonya and Suz- You guys BOTH are looking so good (I always appreciate picture updates:)). I need that type of inspiration.

Hey to all the rest of you! I'm just worn out and need food ASAP!

Talk tomorrow.

Sonya, somehow I missed your post. All I can say is wow you are really getting great results. I am sure a lot is diet. You looked great anyway but I can see you are gaining even more results. I tighten the diet and get quick results. Just wish I didn't love to eat so much. You inspire me to really work on the diet.

Dallys, nice bike ride.

Patty, I just alway know even when I am careful on my choices eating out that the sodium is going to be way off. Even trying to leave out the starches I usually have that happen:mad: I would rather they just put the season salt or whatever they use and of course salt on the table and leave it. But I do like to eat out and not have to cook or clean dishes. Of course now it is better for me as I don't have children at home in the evenings so don't have to come back and clean that mess up which I am sure know one else thinks about.

Edited to add meals;
b- coffee black and an Oatmeal bar (I know bad choice, took grandson who had it with him to Sonic to get coffee and got him a breakfast sandwich so I ended up going shopping with the Oatmeal bar and hungry)
l- salad mixed greens and Newmans own light honey mustard dressing
d- Muscle Chow Shrimp Kabobs with grilled corn(no corn here)
I added mushrooms to the mix
I will have a protein shake before bed made with water.

Hey Maniacs!!!

Today is a rest day for me. Spent alot of time reading.

Sonya,

WOW...GREAT PICTURE!!! Can tell you are working hard. My diet has not been as strict, but I know at anytime I can change that. WAY TO GO THOUGH!!! KEEP IT UP!

Bionic Maniac!!! I bet you are feeling it. Great job! Yeah, that wind probably made it feel like you are working on a higher level like when your on your treadmill, etc. Alittle bonus work there. hehe. The weather was good here for riding, but timing was bad this weekend, but I will catch a good day again soon. Spring is almost here and was near 80 today!!!

Diane Sue - You're absolutely right about keeping the eating clean. I'll keep my 3x a week cardio to an hour for now until I start riding outside and then kick it up to longer sessions and hopefully will be able to up my calories by then too. Maybe I'll be used to it. I have small bones so I know what you're saying about the ankles and stuff. It's kinda hard to build it up. I think you look amazing!

Sonya - NICE ABS WOMAN!!!!!!! Wowy! And can I just say...nice boobs to go on top of them. :p I don't have those. Tee hee. I'm kinda flat (I'm in that club they were talking about earlier...the 34A one). You have such a nice figure. Don't worry, I'm in love with my husband. :D

Dallys - What a ride! Good for you! So are you enjoying the road bike? Your DH is right...you need to learn to ride in an easier gear. A gal I ride with was a masher and once she finally started listening to her DH and started riding in easier gears she got much faster. It's also really hard on your knees to mash your gears. You'll get used to it. It wears you out faster the other way too.

Patti - Thanks! Glad you're enjoying STS and that your DH is doing it with you (even if you ARE kicking his bootay! ;)).

Sonya - And can I just say...nice boobs to go on top of them. :p I don't have those. You have such a nice figure. Don't worry, I'm in love with my husband. :D

Suz...LMAO! :p:D Glad to have you back! Missed ya! Glad you had a nice time in Mexico. We have a Timeshare in Cabo and have a trip planned for July. They say the tourist spots are still pretty safe. We shall see. It's through RCI...so we may swap it for some place else. Glad to see ya stuck w/your workouts.

Thanks for all the compliments! I am very pleased with the progress I am making with Olesya. I have to tell ya though...I have learned alot about how your diet plays such a significant role in achieving your goals....are ya paying attention Suz..hee, hee ;) I thought I ate pretty clean before.

Dallys...Nice ride! My legs would be rubber if I tried to do something like that!

Patti...glad you liked STS. And of course you kicked DH bootay...cuz GIRL'S RULE!

Suz: Finally saw your pics- you are looking TERRIFIC! You go!

Dallys: Heck of a ride! You go! Can I confess that the only bike riding I do involves pulling a trailer behind me with little people inside that are usually shouting for snacks or shouting at each other? :p

Sonya: God your abs! I still can't get over them- even made a point to show DH. :) He was impressed. What you said about diet is so true and makes me SIGH. My diet does not suck and I think I eat very well, but I KNOW I still screw it up sometimes and even when I think I'm doing well, I know there is room for improvement. Consistency is this area is so hard! But man, with results like that, it has to help keep you motivated.

Must go to bed- cardio tomorrow. I can't wait to see if DH can even move tomorrow. Serves him right for not working out for so long.
