Got new gym floor

Autumn68

Cathlete
Recently I posted a few pic's of my gym, but I didn't have the flooring done. We wound up buying these puzzle piece floor systems. We've got them on sale for $6 (for a pack of 4) and bought enough to cover the floor where I need it to be covered. I thought I'd share these pic's. :D:D:D:D:D:D autumn
Next were looking for a deal for a squat rack that can work w/ my weight bench so I can use it for squats as well as bench presses when I go heavy. DH is working on it for Valentines day...

Autumn..your workout space is great! I just received my workout room flooring today and I'm excited to put it down tonight. I bought 1.1" puzzle mats. I'm hoping that my joints will stop screaming at me now during my workouts! ;)

Nice!.....wish my garage looked like that! keep us posted on how the mats feel especially during a step workout......just curious.

P.S. Where do you find the sale? recently? thanks in advance.

It looks great! I've got a similar thing in part of mine... but the actual name of the rubber mats (they look like the kids colored mats) was: Garage mats! anyway, they do the job. Great space you've got there. I call my gym my escape room. Sometimes I go in there and don't even work out, just because I like so much! (But I do try to, of course).

Looks great!

I've got the same puzzle mats in my workout room, but I've got two layers of them.

You might want to consider doing two layers if you do any high impact working out. One layer just doesn't provide enough protection for the knees and joints.

Thanks everyone. We put it together this morning, and I used it today. Step worked out really nice, but I don't want it to get messed up, so I might put a step matt on top of the matt. Also did STS chest/back today and that was nice too. JeanneMarie, you mentioned that you put 2 layers, doesn't that slide around? As far as the name of it, they have them in the sports section of Walmart but we got ours at this salvage store dh buys his tools, and he got this online coupon. They have it in that store b/c men use it for garage floors or workbench areas. They are 2x2's. - autumn

No, mine don't slide, but I've got them wall to wall. As many as you have, I don't think they'd slide either, but I'm not positive. I just don't think one layer is going to be enough cushion for you in the long run.

I never thought of two layers. Thanks for the tip!

Great room, Autumn! :D

Jeanne, I've also considered another layer of mats in my room for the added protection. I just don't want to move everything to put them down.

thanks

We have a few extra, I'll have to see how that works. I want to stop using my trampoline for hi impact and that's why I got the flooring, so I can jump. I have one bum knee, so I do have to be careful. Thanks for the advice. - Autumn

What a great space, Autumn!

I just got a power cage for home and can't believe what difference it makes for going heavy. Amazon sometimes has some nice deals. That's where I got mine.

Gayle, I just looked up power cages on amazon and wow, they are quite pricey. DH is looking into deals, and he said he saw one that he thought would be good for me, and after he walked by when I was doing STS, he said it's the same one as the guys are using in the back. He's getting me one for Vday so he's doing the research. He finds these amazing deals all the time, but this one is taking longer than he thought, but he's got his eye on one now. I don't know the details or if he ordered it yet, it's going to be a gift. :D I can't wait.
What kind do you have?

Let me guess -- Harbor Freight? I think we own just about everything they sell!

Just a few words of advice/caution. If the mats are the same as from Harbor Freight they are not the quality of the ones from places like Target. We have both and there is a definite difference. I only say this because they might not be as cushioning (but definitely better than the concrete floor) and might wear out more quickly. Also, I used a set of puzzle mats a few weeks ago with MMA: Boxing and twisted my knee because my foot didn't pivot like it would on a surface with less traction. I know now to not use the mats for things like that, but to have them ready to go for the impact moves.

I'm really happy for you that you have such a nice dedicated workout space. It makes a lot of difference.

Yes, that's the place. DH goes there for everything. We have one about 30 min's away. I couldn't remember the name before.
Thanks for the advise, I have a bad knee and don't want it to get worse. We figure it will wear out, but we don't know how long it will take. We've got them at such a cheap price, and being unemployed..... Once I get a job, and they wear out, I would like to get something better. But I'm glad you told me about your pivot problem - I do MMA all the time. I'll have to watch that. I hope your knee feels better soon :( That really stinks when your injured like that. - autumn
