...my squat rack, a bench, slanted risers, two sets of Platemates, dumbbells, barbell, green band (might have to replace that). The only thing I don't have is a pullup bar (fuhgheddaboutit).
The weight bench was from WalMart. It's a Gold's Gym XRS20 and cost about $134.00. It took about two hours to put together (by myself)but was not difficult. But I do like putting crap together, you know, Ikea and stuff like that, so a little assembly required doesn't bother me.
Platemeates and Paceweights are two types of incremental weights that you can put on dumbbells and barbells to increase resistance a little bit at a time. They attach to the weights you already own with very strong magnets.
For example, when trying to progress from 5 lbs to 8 pounds in shoulder rear flyes, the increase from 5 to 8 is most likely too much. But it's very difficult to find 6 pound and 7 pound dumbbells. I mean, they do exist but instead you can use paceweights or platemates to go from 5 pounds to 5.5 pounds to 6.o pounds, etc., until you are strong enough for 8 pounds.
Here are two links to the products themselves. (psst...have your CC handy - heehee!)
I saw where you just posted a review for that weight bench on WalMart's site recently! You're 2-hour comment and Maryland location gave you away!
I looked at it in the store yesterday and the box did not say it accommodates ALL sizes of barbell (standard to Olympic), so I hesitated to purchase it. I'm sure it was the same product, since it was about $134 and a Weider brand, and the bench/upright rack could be separated; however I can't remember the EXACT model number from the store.
Can you tell me exactly HOW narrow you can make it between the uprights? My current barbell may be even shorter than a standard one, so I certainly didn't want an Olympic sized stand.
When I put together the squat rack with all the pieces and my troy light barbell fits comfortably, with the plates on the inside of the rack, rather than the outside which will probably make loading it a little tricky since I will have to lift the ends up to put on and take off any additional weight.
If I made the rack narrower, I could probably stand in between to get the barbell for squats, but it would be very snug indeed - just about the width of my body, I would imagine.
Yes, thanks! I don't know how long your Troy bar is, but from what I hear you say, you could go even narrower, which really helps me.
I don't think my bar is much longer than about 40-44" (it's from a "Junior Barbell Set" I bought years ago from Sears). It holds up to about 60 pounds of weights, which so far has been plenty for me, LOL!
That short bar has been great for me, since I'm 5'1" tall, and 50 years old (in a month !) so I am really looking forward to the challenge of STS to stretch my fitness level, but I don't want to HAVE to buy a longer bar if I can get away w/ my little one, and still use that Weider bench from WallyWorld.
Susan- I'm so glad to hear that this bench is easy to assemble. I've had mine sitting in it's box for about a month now because I've been afraid it'll be too difficult for me to put together.
LOL! If you lived closer I might just take you up on that offer. Hmm... Maryland to Arizona....nope think it's a little too far. Guess I'll have to tackle it all on my own.
