Getting Our Licks In!

Did Rhythmic Step. I forgot about how much I love that one. Will have breakfast and try walking sometime today with Rolly. Rainy Rainy and then threats of rain.

Went on line and saw a dog very close to what this animal looks like. I think the big gray dog is part Napoleon Mastiff. One of the largest dogs there is. I remember years ago while we were talking neighbors, that he mentioned Mastiff. They also have one that is part Pit Bull, and another one I have no idea what the breed could be then yet another one that is husky, short and a patchy brown. These are the dogs that usually terrorize us together (in a pack). Dont' get me wrong, I love dogs with all my heart, but afraid when they are in a pack. Nervous of big dogs in general, but can warm up to them under controlled circumstances.

I bet you all are getting tired of this, so I'll keep it to myself until I just have to vent again. I've calmed down knowing that there is permanent records coming along and if needed will use the evidence to help us someday make this jerk keep his dogs behind his fence. Thank you so much for your patients and ear. Much appreciated. I don't know what I would have done without you supporting my venting. Really, this will be a long drawn out thing.

Laura, Intermediate Pilates already? Good for you! Pretty please pictures of Sofie being an Indian and Eliza being Pippi Longstocking cowgirl. How fun! Congratulations on Misty coming home. Pure puppy:), smell her breath for me. Don't you just love the smell of puppy breath. Smells like oatmeal don't you think?:D

Elle, Burrrrrrrrrr! 21 is very cold! But, is it sunny? sounds like ballons and yoga go together. Nothing like having fun while you are working out. Thank you for your support about my neighbor.

Michelle, Glad to see you enjoying stretches and walking with wonder dogie Ripken.

Take care my friends:),

Janie: Sorry, I forget you measure temperature different from us here in Canada!:p It's 21°C so it's actually very mild here today. You don't need a jacket.

I am so sore today mostly in the abs & glutes, but hey that is what is all about right??

I taught Pilates this morning, the beginner level, and then did my first cardio since my accident. I did my first Cardio Coach on the Elliptical, which I thought would have the least amount of impact on my knee. It felt so good to break a sweat & I really liked the Cardio Coach, totally removed the boredom factor and made me more present with what I was doing.

Janey: Mastifs are huge dogs!! Vent all you need to! Puppy breath is the best!!

Michelle: wish we had you r weather we went straight from Indian summer to mid February here.... Nasty windy, sleet and snow and 20' F

Elle: sounds like a good workout Pilates can really target the glutes as well! An area I am pretty sure most women wouldn't mind firming up! Are you still doing weight watchers? I am gearing up to tackle my last 20 lbs!!

Warning: Neighbor again, read only if you want to.

I just figured something out. Bert (my horrible neighbor) lives in Tacoma and works at Boeing from Tues. through Friday. He's in Shelton on Sat., Sun., and Mon. I also took a look (while he is gone) at the gate. He put the gate up on the easement part of the road, it has a fence connected on both sides to it, but only runs down the road for a short way and then it ends in the bushes. It's not to keep his dogs from staying in, rather to keep the cars from going any further towards his property. I often wondered how the dogs could get out when the gates were closed, now I know. He's also blocking a second route out of the wood if their is a fire. Now we only have one way out. Not good. Think I'll bring that up in the next meeting.

Rolly and I for sure won't walk the woods on Sat., Sun., and Mon. But will definitely obtain more evidence as time goes on.

Laura, DOM's are wonderful, yes they are.;) Good for you for working on abs and glutes.

I'm so glad your knee is getting better. Great job on CC. I love them as well.

Janie

I did Amy Bento's ASC - (first one) again - this time I lowered my step and did much much better this time. It was fun - still hard - actually harder and longer than I remember it being which disturbs me.:mad:

Horrible changes here at work - it consumes me right now and I'm not very happy but I'm trying. I suppose we all have these times - just need to get through it. Huge wind storm here - the weather isn't very friendly either.

On the flip side my little neighbor only get together turned out exceedingly well - and a nice time was had by all. This will be my autumn bonfire this year - instead of the huge pain in the rear party I usually throw. I lit all my candles all throughout the house. It was a warm and glorious evening outside as well - and we lit a huge fire, all the tiki torches and candles outside. On Sunday my little baby niece Scarlett was christened - that was a nice day as well.

Laura - Pippi Longstocking!! Great idea - once you get the hair right - nothing else can be that difficult to find. You could try wires in her braids so that they hold their shape and flip up. My sister and brother in law went to a Halloween party over the weekend as Animal & Janice from the Muppets Band. My sister made the masks and costumes - they looked fabulous & won the contest for best costumes. Congrats on MISTY!!! Oh my I just love puppies - enjoy her. Could you post a picture??

Janie - so very sorry you are going through this time with your neighbor - it is sad that he can't be considerate enough to respect your space. I also can't see why he wouldn't want to protect his dogs - it is not their fault that he isn't responsible - but they will pay the price for his neglect. Makes me mad!!!

Elle - Kids yoga class - wow that sounds great - and fun!!! I bet they just loved using the balloons - and very creative on your part. It sounds as if everyone's weather is changing - like fall though - you get some really great days then.

Michelle - Well for me - I don't have any experience with a Mac vs PC - but I will tell you that my Mother had a Mac and has said repeatedly that it was the best computer she ever had. I have always had a PC. I think Elle gave some sound advice - find something with all the features you want at a good price - can't really go wrong with either.

Well I am gearing up to workout - some strength training but not sure what. I'll let you all know tomorrow.

We are getting rain off and on today and it is warm and humid. Go figure: Oct 27th and it feels like late spring. Since it was raining pretty good this morning, Ripken and I only did our short walk--about 20 minutes vice our normal hour. So I was a bit ahead of schedule this morning. Today was a cardio day: Low Impact Step. I'm finding on this go round of STS that I hurt more during my active recovery week than I do during the STS/cardio weeks. Not sure why that is. Any ideas out there?

Janie: Bull mastiff--yes, that dog definitely looks like a bull mastiff. I think if I came across a bull mastiff, I would want it to be on the leash with its owner in tow. All I can say is that your neighbor is an interesting fellow, to say the least. Feel free to keep venting.

Laura: glad to hear that you were able to do a little cardio. The pictures of Misty on Facebook are great. She is so adorable. Ahhh, the puppy days.

Shoegal: have you not been doing alot of step lately? Maybe the difficulty level you were experiencing is because you haven't been doing as much cardio lately? I don't like change at work either. Fortunately, at my company, the more we change, the more we seem to stay the same. I hope you are able to weather the changes and get back to a happy place.

Elle: I'm still trying to picture yoga with balloons. Sounds like you had a good time though. Are you still experiencing the warmer weather in your part of Canada. I understand some parts of the northern midwest states are getting snow. Ick. Too early for that. But you are in eastern Canada aren't you?

Missing Shadowpup and sister. Hope they come back soon.

Hi ladies of fitness!!

Still sore in the abs!! Did a reformer class in Boulder and then taught a pyramid up upper body workout in my Total Tone class. Feeling like I am slowly getting back to normal... Well almost anyways... I think I will do cardio coach tomorrow at the Boulder Rec and maybe a little lower body work with the squat rack and see how I do with that..

Bo's Mother and her boyfriend are coming to town for Halloween weekend. It is busy so I might not check in or even workout over the weekend.

Janie: so sorry that this problem is not getting resolved.... Feel free to vent to us so that when you talk with him or the community board there is less emotional charge ... I was thinking the other day how much we have been through as a group... Deaths, physical difficulties with us or lived ones, passing of beloved animals... Really it is amazing considering most of us have never met

Shoegal: I feel like everything is harder right now, but I really haven't been able to workout consistently since mid July before I went to Atlanta& it is really very hard to get back into it!! Most the time I feel unmotivated and so sore!!! I know if I preserver it will get better!!

Michelle: yep icky snow and wind here in the lower 48 went!! I don't know why you would feel more sore? Did you up the weights? Or maybe time made you forget how sore you were the first time? I was wondering that about my own soreness,.. Maybe it is like child birth and over time you forget how bad it felt at the time and just remember the happy after glow of the endorphin rush!!

Oh and Shoegal I have pics of Misty on Face book! Be friend me and you will see more photos than you would probably care to see! LOL!! Laura DuBose

Joey and I did TBS using heavy weight. LOL:D Big surprise. Went walking in the wood with Rolly about 30 min.

Dogs were out today (took pictures), and Joey wished I wouldn't make waves with our neighbor. He says it's very rude that the neighbor does allow this. The authorities can't help us.

Maybe trying to make friends with his animals is a better way to approach this problem. (if I ever get the courage to face these dogs) I don't know. Joey is usually right on these matters, something to seriously consider. He says nothing can come of it, there is nothing that can be done, except hurt feelings on our part.:( It is a no leash law and a no win situation. Maybe treats are in order instead of a bullet. It is a peaceable way of looking at it, or a Gandhi way of doing. Hmmmmm. What would I do without my Joey? In the end, his perspective takes on a whole new look. However, I will continue to take pictures and gather evidence. You never know if we may need them.

My venting drama is winding down, but I'm still so very mad at this person for making us go through this for so many years and will continue his escapades no matter who he offends.

I will be civil towards this man (our neighbor) but oh how I despise him. I don't think I can ever really enjoy myself around him and I so want to make friends with people in the meetings. A game I guess that has to be played out when you are in a public situation.

Shoegal, Great job doing Amy's workout. Not an easy one, for sure. Sorry about your job changes. Hope it will get better for you. Weather can get a person down too when it is stormy like that. What a beautiful vision of your bonfire. Sounds so mesmerizing and fun. Congratulations on your niece being christened.

Michelle, Us to, with rain off and on. Does sound like wonderful weather to walk in with Ripken. Great job on LIS. Maybe I'll do that one tomorrow if it's too rainy to go outside. Ah, did you over do it on your active recovery you think?

Take care,

Janie

Hi Everyone,
Last night i taught my beginner's class. This is a different group in that there seems to be a lot of students with limitations. Usually i have one or two in a class but there are several in this class. It's been keeping me on my toes coming up with modifications to suit their various conditions. It's also reminded me how valuable my health is. I'm so grateful for all the things my body can do. :)

I have another student that has been in my advanced class for several years. She had cataract surgery a couple of weeks ago so she is not in the fall session. I sent her an e-mail to see how she was and she is under strict orders to not do any exercise for at least 4 weeks. She says she really misses her yoga. Before the surgery she didn't practice much at home and now that she can't she really wants to. Another reminder to not take our health for granted. I told her i would have the advanced class dedicate their practice to her this week.

Michelle: It's been pretty mild weather here this week although we had some weird storm warnings and extremely windy weather related to some tornadoes in the US.
For the kids class i had them use the balloons in various ways: holding it between their feet for leg lifts and shoulderstand, passing it from batween their feet to their hands and back again. Standing in a circle and doing warrior and passing the balloon to the person beside them while maintaining the pose to name a few.

Shoegal: Your party sounds so nice with all the candles and torches! I love candles. Congratulations on Scarlett's christening.

Laura: I can't believe you already have winter weather. It's good to see you are recovering from your injuries and getting back to all your activities.

Janie: I think Joey has a good point. It is your neighbour so maybe surrendering to the "kill them with kindness" approach might be the way to go in this circumstance. Unless you plan on moving soon, you probably don't want to do anything to create more conflict if it's not going to do anything to resolve the issues.
Are the dogs friendly or hostile? My dog Marino was just as big as they look in the pictures. He weighed 105lbs but was such a sweetie! People were always scared of him because he was a big black dog. If it's safe, perhaps befriending them with treats would be the way to go. Like Shoegal said, it's not the dogs fault the owner is irresponsible. They are just being dogs.

Oh my - did Travel Fit last night. Goodness that is a fun one. Kind of wish there was a little more cardio in it though. I had such a great time doing Push/Pull on Tuesday that I decided that I wanted something with both cardio & weights last night. Travel Fit is really FUN but there is so much band work and very little cardio. I have decided that I will do Cathe's Cardio & Weights tonight to stay on this little kick. Good week for me exercise wise. I need the release.

Laura - I know whay you mean - everything is hard for me as well - after coming back from the cruise - (and for awhile) I've been floundering and not as consistent as I have been previously. I am constantly working on it - trying to get past this point - something, though, always seems to step in to slow me down. Keep at it - sounds like you are coming around - I'm so glad. I can't believe the winter weather you are having!!! Where does Bo's Mom live?

Elle - You are so right - our health is a blessing and I for one am very grateful. Your classes sound like such fun - especially the kid yoga. I think I'm going to pull out a Rodney Yee and give that a go. I actually think it is a VHS tape - so I'll have to do a little more digging to get that out.

Janie - I think you need to befriend the pups - well, try at least - Joey is probably right. Perhaps he could help you befriend them. Escalating things with your neighbor will only make it more unpleasant and difficult for you and you don't need that. Good job on TBS!!

MIchelle - I do hate change - I really do. I am going to strive to be more flexible and embrance it - :(:( but I'm not happy about it. and I don't don't know how successful I will be. Not sure why you are more sore - are you lifting even heavier than your first go around? That could be why.

Hope you all have a great day.

Another beautiful day here in Virginia. Didn't seem as humid--had a little breeze blowing this morning. Ripken and I did our full hour walk this morning and then I did stretches 3 and 2 (in that order) from stretch max.

Lots going on at work. I'm finishing up an interim report and getting ready to go back to New Orleans early next week.

Shoegal: I've done travel fit quite a few times, usually either on the boat or when I'm on business travel. I've found that it is a good "away from home" workout. I'm gald you mentioned Cardio and Weights. I might do the cardio only premix from that tomorrow. I have kicked up my weights a little on this round of STS, but not major leaps--only 1/2 to 2 pound increases depending on the exercise. On many of the exercises, I've stayed exactly where I was the first time with STS. It's mostly my back that is bothering me and I probably just need to ease up on the weight amounts in this 3rd mesocycle.

Elle: you are so right. Health is everything. Folks don't seem to realize until it is too late that if you don't have good health, you are limited in other ways. It is definitely something that my DH has come to realize a bit too late.

Laura: your point about the rush of endorphins after exercise is probably quite relevant. I have a job where I'm sitting quite a bit at the computer. I have to get up and stretch and walk around every hour or so. Does your puppy hang out with you when you are exercising at home? Ripken usually is my exercise body for the first half of the workout, then he goes and lays on the cool tile floor for a nap for the second half, and comes back to get his licks in during the cool down.

Janie: Maybe it would be helfpul if you could meet the dogs in a more controlled environment and spend some time getting used to them. Dogs sense if someone is afraid--and Rolly will pick up on it too. I always try to remind myself of that when I'm walking with Ripken and we run into a stressful dog confrontation. If I stay calm, usually Ripken stays calm. But--sometimes it's hard to do. Joey sounds like a good DH to me.

Still missing Shadowpup and Sister.

Well, I've been a wee bit under the weather. Took yesterday and today off from work. Yesterday I still went ahead with STS, but today, my body said, "no, enough, give me a rest" a day early. So I listened and am glad. I'm not even going to Karate tonight and that is "killing" me since tomorrow is belt graduation and next week is tournament. Oh well. I won't stress out on it.

I've been taking care of three stray cats. The young 6 month old male tuxedo kitty is just a little sweetie. I'm gonna take pics of him, e-mail them to the local shelter, and they said they will post his pics for adoption. I would love to have him, but I've got my four, and feeding the 3 extra mouths outside does add up in $$$ after a while. I've got to ask my neighbors if they know if these cats belong to someone in the neighborhood. If not, which I think is the case, then hopefully I can find him a home.

Janie, I always try the "honey is sweeter then vinegar" approach with people. Keeping a log, and documentation for the "just in case" scenerio is smart. But I would seriously try to find a solution with this irritable neighbor the "right" way. And even though, you may not get anywhere that way, at least you tried before going the tougher route.

Health is so important, and often taken for granted. I think I push myself so hard that I just wear out, as is the case this week. Extra rest and knowing when to say when. I'm glad to hear that Elle, Shoegal and Laura are finding their exercise groove.

Next week I have a new Karate schedule...oh change...yippy skippy, but I won't fight it because the prize (black belt) is well worth it.

A thing is right when it tends to preserve the integrity, stability and beauty of the biotic community. It is wrong when it tends otherwise. Aldo Leopold

Wishing everyone joy and happiness....

I truly apologize about having a tizzy fit and expressed it at all your expense. I'm usually such a positive and calm spirit. I guess my alto ego came out to play. I'm very embarrassed. All I can say is thank you for letting me go on about it and getting it out of my system. I do appreciate that. I will try to become friends with the dogs.

Did the Wedding Video today, it's been a long time and enjoyed it. To rainy outside for a walk. Poor Rolly.

Elle, I have to agree and also am grateful for what my body can do compared to other people.

If it really came down to hurting the animals, I couldn't, it's not in me. I talked big because I was angry.

Shoegal, Great job on TF. It is a lot of fun!

You are right, I'll try to befriend the dogs.

Michelle, Great job on the walk and stretches.

Good luck with your interim report in New Orleans. Try to have fun there as well.

I'll try real hard to get to know these dogs. Joey does have a way with me coming down to earth and calming me.

Renee, So sorry you are not feeling well. Bad timing for Karate. Can you make them up once you feel better? If the tournament is next week, you may feel better by then. Cross my fingers for you.

You are so sweet to care for stray kitties until they have a home of their own. You have a big heart.:D

I will go for the "honey is sweeter than vinegar" approach. It's a good idea.:D

Joey and I did The Firm Vol. 1. It was a great sweaty workout. Also walked Rolly for an hour in the wood.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Janie

Quick check in before I head home. We are officially back to fall weather here in Virginia which is making Ripken very happy. I have to admit, I even had a little more spring in my giddy-up this morning when Ripken and I walked. Afterwards, I did the Cardio & Weights cardio timesaver. Lots of fun and that Buttercup song always puts me in a great mood.

Okay--back later for personals. I think I'll call sister to see if she is feeling better.

Yesterday I was tired and took the day off.

Today I went to the North Boulder Rec center after dropping the kids off. I was going to do Cardio Coach on the elliptical again but I had forgotten my head phones so I did it with the stop watch on my Iphone to the best of my recollection and really worked up a good sweat in 30 minutes! Than I started to do the Chest, Shoulders, Triceps from W1 M2, but only got through the chest before I had to leave to teach my Private Clients. I did about 45 minutes on the reformer which felt terrific before rushing over to the girls school for the Halloween parade. It was so cute!

I also made rice crispy treats for the class and made them into balls, I used skewers to put in them and tied wax paper over them and drew ghosts faces on the wax paper. Apparently they are a big hit!

I have to hit the shower before going out with the In Laws...tomorrow the girls are going to stay with them and Bo and I are going out on the town with friends to hear music, should be fun! Sunday of course is super busy!

Elle: I know about having different levels in a group class, it can be super challenging to meet everyone's needs and yet not hurt anyone either! Sometimes there isn't much you can do....And our health is SO important, just being a gimp for awhile sure has made me appreciate my health!

Shoegal: love C&W!! Not the biggest fan of Travel Fit but agree with Michelle that it does serve well while on trips, it's purpose I guess, but don't reach for it at home.

Michelle: So far I haven't really been exercising at home so I don't know what Misty will do, but she did come with me to work the other day while I taught a reformer class and she was so GOOD!! I was a proud mom! She came to the Halloween Parade and was completely swamped by a mob of kids! She loved it!:)

Catchicks: get better soon!! Rest, Recover, Recharge and then HIT IT HARD!!! hope you are better for the tournament!

Janey: I think I missed something....must go back and see! Keep up your workouts just remember "people who exercise release endorphins and are happy, happy people don't kill their husbands" or something like that from Legally Blonde!

Oh and there is ANOTHER FIRE here!! UGH all of Boulder was in smoke today! ANd the weather is crazy warm almost 80 here today!

Did Cardio Coach on the treadmill. I forgot how much fun that it. Will have to walk Rolly when there is a break from the rain.

Michelle, Aw, cooler weather for Ripken, bet he loves it. Great job on C&W times saver.

Laura, Great job on CC. I did one myself today. Love it! What is a reformer? I bet the girls were adorable in the parade.

Great idea for the rice crispy treats. Sounds like your weekend will be full of fun. Enjoy it.

You are not missing much. Just venting still, but it's over for now. When I get into the next tissy fit, I'll make sure I exercise a lot at that time.

Stay safe from those fires. Isn't kinda late for them at this time of year? Darn!

Take care everyone,

Janie

Took a break yesterday. But DH and I did rake leaves and get them picked up. Ripken also hung out in the yard--basically surveying his domain and being a very good boy. We were all pretty wiped out last night from all the fresh air and yardwork. Hopefully, we will only have one more go with the leaves. Today, little buddy and I had a nice hour long walk this morning. I made breakfast, talked to my mom on the phone, and then did STS disc 25, chest and back. It's funny, my back feels so much better when I'm exercising. I will be doing the squat rack workouts this time around. Have to print out my spreadsheets for those.

We are all set for the trick or treaters this evening. We usually get kids from about 6-7:30. The we are going out to eat since we were too tired to go out last night. Plus, I am off to New Orleans again tomorrow. I also need to go print out my boarding pass. Lots of things to do here in the next couple of hours. Hope everyone is enjoying the spook-tacular Sunday.
