Getting Our Licks In!

Friday evening -after work - met up with my sister and some friends with DH then headed off to another get together - a B-day party -just some drinks and some appetizers. We actually had a great time. Met some really nice people there.

On Saturday we were both kind of lazy - went to the Portersville Steam show and took all 3 dogs - and they were a handful. Gunner is coming into his own and is quite a puller now on the lead. I love watching him discover new things -after being quite timid of our spiral stairs - now he goes up like a champ. It is the best thing in the world now for him now to go up those stairs - he just loves it. He isn't as good coming down the stairs yet - but he'll get it. We also leave the door open to the outside - and I love watching him decide to go in or out and realizing that he has the freedom to decide. He is just a wonderful, wonderful pup. The steam show has a flea market, operation of the steam engines with some hit & miss sounds going on - (loud!!) saw milling (using steam of course), a train, some food (but very limited), tractor pulling . . . very redneck sort of activities - not really my cup of tea to be honest but DH loves it. We then got ready to go to DH's reunion. It was the field party - there was beer, a band and lots of people. He saw ten of his old classmates that he knew - we mingled for awhile, enjoyed the band and then we went and had dinner later. I think I'm tapped out on social things for awhile!!!!:p;)

I think I'll do a Tracy Anderson workout tonight!!! Looking forward to it.

Hope you all have a great day.

Happy Monday everyone!

Well, I ended up not getting a cardio in yesterday. Instead, DH and I went to the pool all afternoon. There was a great breeze blowing. Visited with friends, read a little, fell asleep. Left later to come home than I thought we would, so exercise went nowhere. But this morning, Ripken and I were back to our normal weekday schedule: walkabout at 5:30, exercise at 6:30. Did STS Disc 1 and I'm winging it a bit on my weight amounts. I've increased some, stayed the same on others (mostly the shoulders). Tomorrow will definitely be a cardio. Not sure which yet.

Just a quickie. hopefully, back later for personals.

Hello out there . . .

I did Tracy Anderson last night as expected - and really enjoyed it. I got the blood flowing and like the gentle nature of the movements. The mat workouts are an interesting contrast to weight training and I feel like it is beneficial to work the muscles in different ways. Not sure what I'll do tonight - some sort of cardio.

Alright I preordered. I knew I wouldn't hold out - there were some good reasons to wait - but in the end I felt the descriptions were up my alley and like I said I really like total body workouts. I just bought the DVDs - not savy enough to use those downloads and I'm sure I don't have enough space on my Ipod to hold them. I also don't know how to hook it up so I could play them on the tv and then I fear the tv is too old for that. I'm excited about these new workouts!!!

Michelle - I think your Sunday sounded just lovely - I love laying in the sun, relaxing, swimming - reading - all of that sounded just heavenly.

Shadowpup - another trip so soon??!?!?

Laura - I forgot about you losing BodyMax 2 - I'm shocked it never turned up. Glad you finally got Cross Train Xpress - you'll have to let us know how you like it. How long are you staying in Atlanta???

Janie - enjoy the beach - what will the weather be like there?

Hello to Elle and Renee!

Howdy.

Yesterday was STS disc 2 AND a 13 mile bike ride. Today I did SC: Boxing. I was feeling a little unmotivated and sluggish, but about 12 minutes into it, that passed and I was enjoying my workout. So glad to have done it. It is one of my favorite SC's. I have karate later this afternoon. I have a feeling, that today is gonna be great!

Well didn't get any exercise in yesterday, just had a generally lazy day, the running has been taking a toll on my Achilles and knees and today my low back has a dull ache....:( I have only had 3 days off this 2 week vacation, so over all I think that is pretty good!

I am about to go workout know, it is our last day and we have a busy day planned with tea parties, puppet shows, and dinner at the Piedmont Driving Club. It has been a great trip and everyone has gotten along nicely but I am really looking forward to getting home to the cool mountains. My mom will be there when we get back and I am so looking forward to having her live in Boulder!

I was thinking of doing the Cardio only premix of 4DS KB, but Renee may have convinced me to do MMA Boxing instead!

Shoegal: you sure have been busy! You and I both! It is time for me to get serious when I get home, give drinking a break and focus on clean eating! Feeling so sluggish and out of sorts from rich food and to much wine. I am looking forward to my new DVD"s since I am almost done with STS.

Michelle: You work out so constantly that a day at the pool sounds like just what you needed! I bet Ripken is enjoying the break in the heat!

Renee: you are bringing it!! When does school start back up for you? The public schools in Boulder start on Wed. But my girls don't go back until the 2nd of September!

Cardio day today. Did LowMax and really worked hard. I was just entering the darth vader breathing range when I finished. I was extra sweaty and the water was flying on that 7th routine and blast. Ripken got extra licks in today.

We are back in the heat and humidity here for a few days but the weekend is suppose to be back in the high 80s and not so humid.

Sister: I may put the MMA boxing workout on my schedule for Thursday. Did you do an ab circuits with it? Or does Cathe include an ab workout at the end of the boxing routine? Can't remember.

Shoegal: sounds like you guys are going to have to get a new tv so you can hook you ipod to it to do your workouts. I bet your DH won't fight you too much on that. Men always seem eager to get a new tv. My DH has been making noises about "soon we are going to need to replace the tv in the bedroom." The sound on the current tv seems to be getting weaker and weaker or else we are both going deaf.

Laura: I hear you about cleaning up on the eating habits. I have relaxed a little on my eating this summer too and during boat season, I allow myself two Mount Gay/coke with a lime drinks each week. I'm sure the alcohol doesn't help. Oh well. We can always do better tomorrow, right?

Elle: I have bought the Shiva Rea beginner's flow yoga dvd. I think it is going to become my weekend workout for a while.

Hi to Janie, Shadowpup, and Ironlady.

OMG! Forgot to post, Jeesh! Where is my head, I have to go find it:confused:.

Cardio today and will speed walk with Rolly.

Shoegal, So glad to hear you are meeting really nice people. The party last Friday sounds like a great time.

The Portersville Steam show would be something Joey would enjoy. Me too for that matter. LOL:D Especially the Flea Market. Gunner sounds like such a sweet sweet doggy. He's a lucky fella. I bet it was a fun reunion for your honey?

Tracy Anderson, what can I say, another good instructor. I love her DVD's, but, I think you know that already.

I ordered only the new Cathe DVD's for the same reasons.

We'll be going to the ocean/beach tomorrow or the next day, just waiting for some good weather to have fun in.

Michelle, What a great way to relax, by the pool reading and enjoying the weather. Great job on STS. Congratulations on the weight amounts. Wow, very proud of ya.

Great job on LM. Isn't it great to hit it hard and feel good about it later?

Renee, Great job on the STS and a 13 mile bike ride, and the SC Boxing! You are good! Enjoy your Karate lesson.

Laura, Good to see you listening to your body. You are doing really great. Did you have fun with the tea parties, puppet shows and dinner? Sounds like a sweat day, busy one at that. Enjoy your Mon once you get home.

I miss some certain people here. Must be having fun during the Summer.

Take care everyone,

Janie

This morning at 5:15 am it was already 80 degrees! Ripken looked at me and turned toward the Circle for a short walk. I don't blame him. All that long hair--the heat and humidity is just no fun for him. Fortunately, this is supposed to be the last icky day for the week--slightly cooler days and less humidity is supposed to be headed our way by tomorrow. Don't know how long it will last, but at least we will get a little break from the 95 degree plus weather.

This morning was STS disc 2, Back and Triceps. I think I have finally gotten my form correct on those side-leaning one-arm push-ups. Jeez--how long did that take me? I threw the extended stretch in at the end. I really like that stretch and it helps alot. Previewed my Shiva Rea yoga dvd a little last night. Will give that a go this weekend. I was happy to see that she holds the poses for a bit rather than moving right through everything, so I'm hopeful about this one.

The last song I heard on the radio this morning before getting to work was one that Cathe played last weekend. I have no idea who the artist is or what the name is, but it brought back great memories and got me extra pumped up for the day. How great is that?

Janie: hope you found your head. We can't have you walking around without it. What cardio did you end up doing? Rolly is such a little guy, he must really have to get his legs moving to speed walk.

Okay ladies--hope everyone is doing well out there.

I did a NRG premix from Advanced Step Challenge 2 - then decided a bit into it - that I wanted to do it without shoes. I really enjoyed the step - and the way the regular routine is mixed up - it makes it super interesting. I thought doing it without shoes was actually a little more "exciting" for a lack of a better word - it sort of added a measure of fun to it. I don't think I'd do that everytime - but I was liking it - I felt lighter on my feet.

Also took Gunner to the vet again last night to finish up his shots - he was much more animated and huffy puffy this time. I just think it is his personality shining through. We managed to put 3 pounds on him since the last time. I'm glad - he was a bit too thin for me. We put his info out for adoption. He is such a wonderful boy - I think he will be snapped up in no time!

I could use a nap! Just a little sleepy following lunch. Hope every one has a good day!

Shoegal, Gunner sounds like a great dog! If I was home more, I'd take him! But cats are definately more my speed. More independent and not so demanding of time and energy.
Speaking of cats, I was at my Moms this afternoon, and she noticed her cat Perky, had this strange balloon like formation on her chest, below her neck and chin but right above the front legs, sternum. I was like...Eek, she needs to see the vet! So, off we went. Mom, me and the cat. It ends up being a hematoma. No infection or bad cells. So, the cat gets a shot of antibiotics and we are told to just keep a close I on it. It should re-absorb and dissapear on its on in about a month. Okay...fine. Cost a mere $40, but the piece of mind is priceless.

Today I did STS 3, legs. Wee doggie! Tomorrow is Step Moves and ab circuit, yoga. Yippy skippy. Then my long evening of karate! Hooray!

Next week is back to school for teachers. Uh, do I hear another "yippy skippy"?

Sister, I think the song is Katy Perry "California Girls".

I'm gonna make ketchup with my Dad tomorrow. Yum, ketchup. Old family recipe, you either like it, or you don't. I like it!!! ;)

Happiness depends more on the inward disposition of mind than on outward circumstances.

Speed walked Rolly for 45 min. Warmed up with TBS with Joey and did MM.

Michelle, OMG! 80 degrees that early in the morning has to be a record. Wow! How hot did it get today. Glad to hear it will cool down some.

Great work on STS back and triceps. You are going to love Shiva Rea!

Rolly is the one that leads the speed walk, I can hardly keep up with him. lol:D! I did the Wedding video with my found head. lol:eek:

Shoegal, Great job on your workout. If I didn't have flat feet so badly, I would do some workouts without shoes too. It's got to be nice to feel that.

What a great doggy Gunner is. He's such a lucky little fellow getting involved with his foster family. Wow! That is so, (for lack of good words) just right.:)

Renee, Good call in getting the cat to the vet. Now you all can breath easier.

Great job on your workout today. Do you find legs a challenge as I do? Enjoy Step Moves and your Karate class tomorrow and a wonderful memory making ketchup with your dad.

See you all tomorrow,

Janie

Hello everyone -

I got my Mat Workout (Tracy Anderson) in last night. I think I may have done this one other time before - but it is a good one. Different feeling when working the muscles using her method but you still really feel worked afterwards.

We have had a couple of hits when Gunner's info was sent out today. One fellow sounds like he'd be a good match with Gunner's personality. We'll see though.

Will do some sort of cardio tonight - not sure what that will be.

Janie - Rolly sounds like one fit pup with all the speed walking that he does!!! It is nice to exercise out of doors during the summer. When are you starting STS?

Renee - I'm glad that Perky is going to be alright. It is scary to find some odd growth on pets -Lum (mom's cat) had a gland on his neck that wasn't working properly - it would fill up with water and just burst. It's awful but the Vet said he is too old now to operate on it now. My goodness teachers go back to school so early - the time really passed by quick.

Hello out there to everyone else.

I don't know how hot it got yesterday, but it was pretty dang warm and humid. This morning our low temperature was 82. Once again, Ripken opted for a shorter walk and I didn't blame him. A cold front came through during the day and we got some pretty good thunderstorms, lots of rain, cooler temps, and less humidity. Pup and I should be able to take a good walk in the morning.

But let's not get a day ahead. After our walk, I did MMA Boxing which was lots of fun. I particularly like the core work at the end. Ripken was "into" being a helpful pup during the core work and plopped down on my feet while I was doing the frog situps. I definitely couldn't cheat on those with a 95 pound dog sitting on my feet!

Sister: thanks for the song name and artist, but that wasn't the one I was wondering about. The one I was wondering about was Dynamite by Taio Cruz (or something like that name). Glad you noticed that Perky had a problem and got her to the vet.

Shoegal: hmmm step without shoes. Let me know how your feet feel tomorrow. Gunner sounds like he is adjusting very very well. But I'm not surprised--you guys are naturals at the being foster parents for pups.

Janie: more power walking for you and Rolly. Rolly is a very good boy helping to keep you active. Love muscle max.

Hi to Laura, Shadowpup, and Elle.

Shoegal, Great job on Tracy Anderson workout. Was she a ballerina at one time?I'll start STS when we get back from the ocean. Whenever DH decides that. Jeesh I want to go, so I can come back and start STS!

Michelle, Glad to see the temps going down for you. How do you train a dog to sit on your feet while doing frog situps? LOL That, I would have loved to shave seen.:D

Got a go, see you all tomorrow.

Janie

First week of STS done. And boy was my body screaming at me yesterday. I did Step Moves and AC yoga based abs. It was what was on my rotation, so of course I did it. Feeling it every step and crunch of the way. This was in the afternoon because my morning was taken up by other chores and errands. My Dad and I made ketchup, two batches! One for me and one for him. I got a good supply that should get me into next year.

I also had my "long" karate class. Lord have mercy. Again my body was screaming at me the whole time. We worked on grab holds and how to break elbows...nice, huh? Then we spent nearly an hour on the tonfu kata 1. I did a lot better with this then last week. I just hope I have retained the new stuff.

I am beat. STS really takes its toll, and its just the first week. But Meso 1 has that effect on me. It did the first time I did it too! Today is my "rest" day. I will probably do just that. I have no place to go, and nothing to do except a little laundry.

My Mom's cat Perky already looks a little better. She is behaving like her normal self, except now she has that shaved spot on her sternum, and its "bubble/balloon" is slowly deflating. It does look like it shrunk a little.

Hmm, I don't think I would or could do step bare footed. Sounds like trouble. But, hey, to each his/her own.

Hope everyone has a lovely day.

Hello out there. Last night - well, here is another "step story" - you can skip it if you want. I decided it would be "funner" to do something I haven't done in awhile - to mix it up. So I pulled out a rather old Kari Anderson one of her "creative instructor step workouts" for the intermediate or advanced stepper - it is a VHS tape. OMG - it was supremely boring. YAWN!!! :p So slow - so not advanced - well, see - here is the thing - it isn't anymore. I do remember doing this years and years ago and loving it - and having trouble. But now - I could have fallen asleep. The combinations were so short - not the mega ones I have come to expect and she took a lifetime to build them. This is a workout for someone just getting into stepping in a more creative way than just basic moves. Unfortunately, this has taught me a rather sad lesson not to use those workouts anymore - I have kept them all this time because I really did value and use them - but that is no longer the case. It is just that I always LOVED Kari. I finished up the evening by doing the abs from TravelFit and the stretch. For the record, I kept my shoes on.

Renee - Making Ketchup??!!?! . . .and with your Dad - that sounds like a wonderful memory for you. But - gee - I have been using homemade ketchup for years. I'm from Pittsburgh and Heinz has made it right here at home for generations. :D

Michelle - my feet feel fine - I'm wouldn't be opposed to stepping again in my bare feet -but like Renee said - it isn't for everyone. Hoping for cooler weather your way - us too - its been quite hot here.

Janie - Not sure if Tracy was a ballerina but I do think that is probably true. I'll have to look it up. Let us know if you get to the beach!!

Laura - are you back home yet?

Elle - where have you been?

Hi to Shadowpup.

The good Lord is giving us a weather gift--wind blowing out of the east and in the 70s. This is unheard of weather in the mid-atlantic in August, so we are enjoying it. Supposed to be nice like this through the week, just a tad bit warmer....sweet! Now, of course, we are at the boat and since the wind has been blowing rather briskly out of the east since some time last night and we are on the western side of the Chesapeake Bay, our low tide was like a normal high tide and the high tide was beyond super high. So, it's a bit of a leap for Ripken to get in and out of the boat, but he managed it like a pup.

Today I was supposed to do STS disc 3, legs. But no STS on the boat because all my equipment is at home, so I substituted Butts and Guts.

Shoegal: sounds like your Kari Anderson vhs tape might be in the next yard sale.

Sister: good to here that Perk is perking up. Hope you are enjoying your rest day.

Janie: Ripken doesn't always sit on my feet when I do situps, but he seems to like to hangout with me on some workouts and provide assistance on the ab work. MMA Boxing is one of those workouts. I'm not sure Rolly would have the same effect for you. How much does he weigh?

Hi to Laura, Shadowpup, and Elle.

Hi!:D Quick Check-in...

Back in Colorado to find our internet is not working and Bo hasn't had time to deal with it. We have it at the satellite that is 500 feet straight up the hill above our house, but not at the house so the problem is between the satellite and the house, which is not easy to find.

I did 4DS KB cardio only and abs on stretch the day before I left, STS Meso cycle 3 Disc #33 and found that I had lost some strength on my vacation, so 2 weeks is to a long for me, and Step Moves today!

So got to run kids are impatient with me at Starbucks...

Did TBS for a warm up and then Pour Hour. Didn't have time to walk Rolly today, poor guy. Tomorrow a double walk for him.

Renee, Congratulations on the first week of STS. I'm starting to make our own condiments, and was wondering if I could have the recipe of that ketchup you made with your dad. It sounds great. Sounds like Karate is still amazing. Your body is adapting to all this work. Hope you enjoyed your rest. Poor kitty, I'm glad her growth is smaller/deflating.

Shoegal, You deserve a big congratulations for improving your Anderson's workouts. Great job! You might want to keep those old tapes, because maybe you might need them one day, or for someone else who is starting out. Do you have a recipe for ketchup too? Fantastic! Haven't got to the beach yet, maybe Mon. or Tues. I don't know. If he can't decide soon, I'm going to start STS and not go. Hmmmmmmmmm. Just kidding.

Michelle, That is sweet weather you have. Nice to know it will be around for about a week. Enjoy it while it lasts. Great job on B&G. I love the thought of Ripkin assisting with your sit ups. Rolly is only 12 pounds. He would never be able to help me with my sit ups. LOL:D

Laura, Hope you get that internet squared away. Great job yesterday on those 4DS KB cardio and also with the abs and stretches. Also on the Step Moves today. I'm so sorry that two weeks is to long in-between STS workouts. What a bummer. You learned though, and that's important.

Take care,

Janie

Hi everyone. Just finished the first 3 sections of my Shiva Rea beginner's yoga dvd. I think there are two more sections on the dvd, but I was feeling like I was in yoga overload. My big issue right now is getting the breathing right. Sometimes I'm exhaling when I should be inhaling and vice versa. The pace is very good though. Plenty of time to hold the poses and feel what I am doing. I will do this dvd again tomorrow. Felt good on my legs (glutes in particular) which are feeling B&G from yesterday.

Ripken and I have had two great walks today. Fantastic weather. Clear blue, sunny skies, with a nice wind out of the NE. Next up will be washing the boat and then it will be time to relax.

Laura: welcome back to Colorado. Bummer about the internet. Living out in the mountainside has it's advantages but sometimes there are drawbacks. Hopefully Bo will get the problem identified and fixed soon. Have fun with step moves and don't worry about the strength--it will come back.

Janie: you've been quite persistent with your exercise. It's great that you workout with Joey and then do your own thing too. How do you get away with not taking Rolly for a walk. Ripken would be beyond put out with me if we missed his walkabouts. But I think you all live out in the countryside and have room/land for him to run on his own, don't you? We are more in suburbia and walkabouts are a must in order for Ripken to do all the important things.

Hope everyone enjoys a beautiful Saturday.
