Getting Our Licks In!

Shoegal: I just went back and checked my workout manager for this month I had a total of 5 full days off, I had some off days this month and 3 days of just pilates, so I think that is good? I do tend to get multiple workouts in on other days...

Last night - yes - again - did another Christi Taylor. This one was entitled "Totally Cool Step." I've done this one before - it was too much fun - and I pretty much got everything fairly quickly. I started thinking while I was doing it - that if I was missing a step or off a little bit - I would think, "I'll do it the next time." There was a little bit of doubt lurking in the back of my mind - though - I took away another chance to get it wrong - do I really want to do that? But it would work - it was like I had no other option but to get it right and I was shocked. Funny how my mind works - and what runs through there.

We took Hobi out to run - just around the house and it was a joy to behold. He was completely off the lead - and ran along side the girls sometimes all out. You could see joy and happiness in his entire body. There is a creek that runs down beside the house - it is actually down over a hill. Dot jumped in immediately and spent a long time swimming around - getting out - jumping in - getting out - jumping in - swim, swim, swim. She would get all excited for us to throw a stick in the water for her. She adores the water. This wasn't enough for Hobi to get in though - he watched - would go down to the edge - got his feet wet - but just wasn't ready to go swimming. But soon hopefully. He has been put up on PetFinder - but I could actually find his write up??? I agree that there has been too much medication in this dog's life - I'm just amazed someone would choose to medicate a dog to this extent.

Michelle - Do you allow Joe to choose suits for you - or do you both flip through the catalogs and choose together and he orders them? I don't think it would occur to Rex to do something like that - I'd be amazed and stunned if he did!!! How'd you get him to do that? What a great husband. My sister Kelly has tons of suits too and she doesn't buy them all either - it is usually me - as a birthday gift. She usually chooses what she wants - and I go get it :D

Laura - it is a truly wonderful thing when exercise has become so integrated into your life that missing an entire week seems like a higly unusual thing. You will probably never lose the will to work out. I know- for myself I find that working out always has a place on my to do list. It always there in the back of my mind - I have to work out - I have to work out - I have to work out.

Janie - I like the sound of that book. My sister's dog Howie seems to be prone to a lot of urinary track infections - so he has been on antibiotics a couple of times already and she doesn't agree with all that medication. She has been looking into other ways to prevent the infections and keep him healthy without filling a perscription. I think that is a better approach for sure. I am going to look it up on amazon.

Hello to Shadowpup - will be signing up for Presidential challenge today - thanks for getting us all on board!!

Need breakfast - very hungry. Hope everyone has a good day.

This morning after a nice walk with Ripken, I did Step Moves. Didn't have the motivation to add on the cardio blast cardio premix. Maybe next week. Thursday mornings are not typically high energy mornings for me. Tomorrow is normally my break day, but I'm going to go ahead and do STS disc 31 and then drive down to SW VA to visit the family. That way Reneee can do STS Saturday morning without having me hanging around waiting for her to get through the workout so I can do it afterwards. Seems more efficient for me to go ahead and do it a day ahead of time and Saturday will be my break day.

We are celebrating my older sister's 50th birthday--this would be Chelsea's mom. Of course she, our older sister, managed to do something this week that has rankled Renee and I to no end. After 50 years, some things never change.

Shadowpup: I haven't signed up for the President's Challenge yet. Will try to get that done tonight. Welcome to Facebook.

Shoegal: DH pretty much likes to pick out the bathing suits himself. Sometimes I will point out ones that I like. At this point, I have so many that I have asked him to not buy anymore because I can't wear all the ones I have at least once in a season. Hobi is on PetFinder. What does that mean? Aren't ya'll going to keep him?

Laura: I heard about the snow out there. I'd just loose it if we got that much snow right now. I know you guys are used to it. Once spring comes, I want it to stay.

Hi to Janie and sister.
~michelle

I am kind of puckered out today, as well, I have been staying up way to late the past few nights and it is starting to effect my energy level. I just did STS Meso 1 Week 4 Disc 11. Chest, Shoulders, and Biceps. I think my pushups have improved dramatically in form. I can get way lower that I used to and do more from my toes, but man it does burn out those arms and chest quickly! My arms were shaking like aspen leaves in the sun. I wasn't super motivated but I got it done...thinking of STS abs and maybe a good stretch later..

Shoegal: oh dear can't you guys keep Howie??? It sounds like he is doing so well with you and your family. I would miss hearing about him as he emerges from his shell...I am like you, ALWAYS in the back of my head like a never ending mantra, "got to work out, got to work out" and if I miss it or I get :( I can be quite cranky about it. Maybe we are a little obsessive? Oh well there are worse addictions to have I suppose?

Michelle: I am tired today to! I also think that it is super sweet that your hubby buys you suits! What a great guy, I think I will have to mention this to my DH...Have fun at the 50th B-day for your sister? I am curious what she did though to rankle you and Renne?

Still need to get on the challenge!

Shadowpup: nice to see you on FB!

Hi all, I'm about beat! Long day. And, I'm connected to much of our team on FB now! It has been fun to look at those pages, but I should have come here first to check in  Now I'm pushing bedtime, so this will be a short report and personals tomorrow.

Today was STS Meso 2 Week 2 Legs. My goodness :eek::eek: There were some heavy weights in there. Trisets. I decided to try something a little different this time, and so I pushed my deadlifts and squats a little heavier, and dropped my split legged exercises (the lunges and plates) a little lighter. My concern was that the split legged exercises are where I'm working on my range of motion, so those muscles have not had as much of a rest. But for the deadlifts, can you believe I went up to 126 pounds??? Ten reps??? 130 on the squats, split among my weighted vest and the dumbbells. The major difference is that I've been sleeping a little better, doing regular foam rolling and have been interspersing an STS week with a lighter weight week, those last two both from Cressey's book.

Hiked yesterday with Joey and did nothing today.

Shoegal, Mind over matter? I think it has a lot to do with things for sure.

Hobi is on Petfinder? Hope he finds a forever home. Sounds like he is so wonderful. I do like the dog and cat book a lot.;) Tell me if you get it. You are going to learn so much about your pets and what not to feed them.

Michelle, Your workouts look really good. Family is that way sometimes, yes they are.

Laura, What is keeping you up at nights? Great job on your workouts even though you were puckered out.:)

Deborah, Haven't had a lot of time to get to FB, I'll try tomorrow.:) Oh my 126 pounds for deadlifts. You are amazing. Are you made out of steel? And those squats, my lambs girl! Good Job!

Janie

:(I know, I know - letting Hobi go will be so hard - he really is such a wonderful dog. It is the nature of fostering though - to love someone and let them go. The most wonderful part of this whole adventure is that he went from one home to another loving home without a stop first at a kennel or shelter - and he'll be with his forever family after that - so he has been loved every step of the way. He was listed late yesterday afternoon and a notice when out to potential GSP Rescue adopters that he in now available. We have already had 2 inquiries made about him. Look up GSP Rescue of PA and look under the heading "Available Dogs" You'll see Hobi listed there.

Well like the true, true, true vidiot I am I bought Amy Bento's first ASC. I had rented this from netflix a while ago but decided I didn't want it because it was too short / not hard enough. Well - I did however have such fond memories about it that I decided that a shorter workout is actually a good thing to have around (it really is). So Jen at Advanced Workouts was having a sale and I dove in without looking :eek::eek: What would you do - sometimes I spend more on lunch than I did on this workout!!! I had every intention of doing it yesterday evening because it had come - but ended up just watching it. Apparantly, too much time had elasped and I will have to relearn it all again. I thought perhaps one day I might look back on all of these step workouts and wondered how I ever managed to do them. So I tested for 1RM - was miffed  and angry  when I couldn't find the rating for some of the exercises. Still need to retest some of them -but I'm getting it done. Also did a bonus ab mini workout that Christi Taylor has tacked onto Totally Cool Step.

Michelle - it is a beautiful day here currently but it did snow during the night - it didn't lay at all but driving in I saw a couple of snow covered cars!!! Spring is here though - my daffodils are fixing to bloom. I'm curious too what your older sister did to upset you guys - well - if it is anything like my family - there is always a bit of drama going on. Hope you enjoy yourself this weekend with family and at the party - relax and have some fun!!

Janie - great time of years for hikes and for doing nothing!!!!

Shadowpup - the weights - wow!!! I have to admit that I have absolutely no idea what foam rolling is - I have heard of it before elsewhere - I'm afraid I am going to have to find out now. I'm very curious - sounds like a good thing - whatever it is.

Laura - good so I'm not the only one with that running in my mind constantly!!! Yes - now that you say it - obsessed sounds about right but obsessed about a good thing like you say is not so bad. I wish it kept me from buying so much. I need to get better about thinning out and getting rid of the workouts I don't so -there are now a bunch of old firms I don't do - probably would be ok to part with them.

Weekend is upon us once again - my DH has threatened me with a trip to the home improvement store this evening :(:p - hate going there!!!

Geezey peezey! Its hard to catch up on all the posts. Don't know where to start!?!

The book Natural Health for Dogs & Cats by Dr. Richard H. Pitcairn, D.V.M. is a wonderful one! I would highly recommend that to anyone who wants to give their pets the best of the best. Holistic health care for animals, and a bit of common sense too. I firmly believe the reason my Noodles became a diabetic was because of poor diet and a steriod shot he received. Made "homemade" food for a while until it became too much of an issue of not wanting to eat it, and wanting the bad stuff. In his last couple of years I caved and gave him the "glop" because he wouldn't eat anything else, and a diabetic HAS to eat. I monitered his blood sugar with a glucometer and he got his insulin twice a day. Gosh, the things people will do for their beloved animals! Much is said in a positive way about the character of person who cares deeply for animals and thier own human race, but IMHO especially animals.

I have been deligently working out everyday. Wouldn't dare miss a workout. Two weeks left of STS. Plyo legs gives me the most bang for the buck, but its all good no matter what muscle groups are worked. Sister is coming down this weekend and we will get to do some sort of cardio together on Sunday...whoopeee!!!!!

I will try and check in more often because I just don't know how to respond to anything posted lately cuz there's just so much. I will even check out the presidential challenge thing too. OY! Another thing to do...its okay, I am game. Just so very busy, but things will slow down mid-May and then by early to mid-June its OVER! Can't wait for summertime, summertime, sum-sum-summertime!

Hope everyone is happy and well.

~Renee~

Holy Moly--sister finally checked in, how about that?

I'm actually at my parents right now and sister is about 10 feet away watching the Duke/Purdue basketball game.

This morning I did STS disc 31--chest and back. First workout for week 3. 90 percent of 1 rms. Goodness--I can't believe some of the weight amounts that I'm lifting. I'm no where near Shadowpup, but I've seen real improvements with STS.

Okay--so older sister has a way of complaining about a lack of finances to her children. As I've mentioned to ya'll before, Chelsea's older sister has a laundry list of mental issues and this stuff doesn't affect her. But Chelsea who is only 14 frets over the fact that money is always tight for her mother. The mother also has frequently told Chelsea that when she gets older and gets a job she can help her (the mother) pay all her bills. UGH! This week, Sue went on a bit of a pity party for herself over turning 50, she has no life, no money, blah, blah, blah. Chelsea was upset and told Renee on the ride in to school on Wednesday. Double-UGH! Renee and I just feel it is inappropriate for our sister to be laying her financial problems on her youngest daughter and furthermore making her feel like she has some obligation to support her when she gets older and has a job. It's nothing new, but it is irritating.

Enough about that.

Sister has just left to go home. I'll just be hanging with the parents for the evening. Maybe play some cards.

Tomorrow is my break day--YEAH! Sister says she wants to go shopping for bathing suits. She has to do the workout first though.

Shoegal: I guess I misunderstood. You all are going to be foster pup parents. I don't think I could do that. I'm the type of person who just gets too attached. More power to you. I'm impressed you can do this.

Janie: a hike with your hubby sounds sweet.

Shadowpup: not surprised you are tired. I guess even our energizer bunny runs out of energy sometime.

Hi to Laura--skiing this weekend?

~michelle

Joey and his doctor found skin cancer on his body. He's been fighting those things for 10-15 years now. They are very aggressive with cutting them out. They use a slide to look at the diseased tissue and keep slicing until there is no more cancer in the cells. Poor guy. Anyway, his face looks like he just had an accident and went through the windshield.

I went for a fast stroll for an hour. But missed my Joey and holding hands with him.:(

Shoegal
, What a kind soul you have to possibly get attached to Hobi and then let him go to yet another wonderful family. I couldn't do it, no way. It takes special like yourselves to make these things happen and find homes for great pets.:)

Yes, I agree, shorter workouts are used here more than one thinks. So glad for them.

Good job on your workouts. A little bit of everything here and there.;) Amy is wonderful, reminds me of someone, but just can't put my finger on it.

Renee, I love making food for my pets, I will have it no other way, ever again. Molly taught us a huge lesson.

Being consistent with your exercises is so well worth it. Brings on results! Good for you.

Michelle, Yes, Meso 3 does show a lot of results that people work so hard to get. I love STS from start to finish. Isn't it a great feeling?

14 years old and have to hear that stuff? I feel so sorry for her. Makes me want to have a little talk with Mom.

Enjoy your rest day.

Janie

Good morning all! Here's hoping we are each waking to blue skies ... or, in Laura's case, a wonderful ski weekend. Laura, your brother is due about now for a skii vacation, isn't he?

Yesterday was a rest day - turned out I hadn't taken a true full day away from training for a week and a half  One of those days was a mobility test (from Assess and Correct dvd series), which wasn't all that intense, so it isn't like I was pushing hard the whole time.

Janie, poor Joey ... it is good he keeps an eye on this. I'm really worried about a few spots on my DH's back, and he doesn't get them tested. He says he will, and then it turns out to be 'too much trouble'. Maybe I can persuade him to go if I can tell him more about it. Does Joey get a skin scraping periodically to check for skin cancer and is it an in-office procedure? I lost a colleague last fall who didn't get a suspicious mole checked until too late, and it is worrysome. Anyway, I'm really sorry you two have to deal with this and I hope his face heals up soon.

Shoegal, foster parents for kids and pups alike have my respect! I tried it once ... that is sort of how we ended up with our terrific black lab, KC. Couldn't bear to let him go :eek::eek: He wasn't a foster dog exactly; he was an overflow dog from the local no-kill shelter; and they were delighted we decided to adopt. Having three dogs now we decided fostering was too risky to try again ... But without foster families who are willing to love a pet, help him become normal and joyful the way you are, there would be many sad animals who were unadoptable. Not everyone has your patience in bringing a dog out of his shell. All those meds would be worrysome to me also ... do foster homes have the option of trying to wean him off of them under a vet's supervision?

Renee, Michelle, Laura - it is fun to see you on FB! I'm enjoying the updates :)

More personals later, I'm not really officially 'up' yet for the day, just wakeful this morning and thought I'd stop in to wish us all a happy weekend.

the girls and I were in an accident on Friday morning in the canyon on the way to school, no one else was involved, we just hit ice on a corner and slid out, managed to miss the creek, but did a nose dive into the mountain. Everyone is ok, thank god, Eliza and I both have some whip lash and my left hand ring finger and index finger are hurt, it is a good thing I took my rings off immediately as they are now very, very swollen. The officer told me that someone went into the creek at the same spot the day before. This was my first time down the canyon since my near accident on friday. I was really quite in shock yesterday and kept seeing the image of the mountain face coming toward me before impact.

So now I am relaxing at this amazing beautiful house my mom rented, the perfect place to relax and recover, waiting for everyone to arrive. I am bummed about the whip lash but will certainly still ski and I am thankful I don't have to teach for two weeks. I had planned on KB for cardio, but I think that would really irritate my neck/shoulder... so going to do skiing and stretching for this week only.

Glad everyone is doing well!! I will check in while I can, I will post some pics of this place on FB, it really is amazing!

Laura, that is very scary. I saw those pictures on FB and was afraid that you'd been in an accident ... so very glad you and the girls are okay!!! Another test of your driving skills passed: you did not end up in the creek.

You've got the best attitude, have to say - you sound very brave and collected in your note. I hope that the skiing helps you work out the stiffness from the accident.

Did a fast walk today.

Deborah
, Glad to see you taking a rest. I bet it was hard for you for some reason. I think of you as always on the go, and if you are sitting down, you most likely are doing something then too. LOL:D A busy bee.

I was feeling overwhelmed with emotion yesterday for my Joey. He's been fighting this kind of cancer for so long and it still hits him. Usually on the face. I saw the wounds today, and one is so very close to his eye. Very scary for me, I can't imagine what he is feeling. I don't know what I'd do without my Joey. Literally.

Joey says, if you have to have a cancer, malignant basal cell carcinoma is one that is most likely to beat. But, if not checked regularly, the cancer can go deeper and thus the doctors would have to cut deeper. Why is your husband not checking to see what those things are on his back? Because all of us are seeing more skin cancer these days, it's so important to check things out before it gets to far. As you know, it is a relentless disease and very very harsh. Tell your hubby that it would be "Too Much Trouble" if they were cancer. Better to get it checked out and forget the pride or whatever that is, men have, that are preventing them from going to the doctors to have things checked out.

Joey or I look for things on his back/body that seem new or not right. Gut feeling. Most of them are harmless, but he and I can't tell the difference, that's when he gets them checked out. When he has these procedures done it is with surgeons but, it isn't at a hospital, so it must be an out patient kind of thing. After wards, he can drive himself back home.

Laura,
I'm so grateful you and your girls are OK. How scary that accident must have been for all of you. Like Shadowpup says you have great driving skills. Sure hope Spring comes your way soon. Those images haunting you must be horrible. Please take care of one another. Enjoy your skiiing, it helps taking your mind off things.

It was a fun weekend! Went by way too fast. Michelle and I did cardio premix to Low Impact Circuit today. It was fun to step together. All in all, the weekend was a good one, despite the, or maybe I should say, because of the birthday celebration of the other sister. (Let's be postive, right?) Sister and my Mom and I went shopping. I bought 2 pairs of shorts, and 2 pairs of capri's all size 4. Last year I was tickled to death that I was buying size 8's and now I have halved that! Whoopee. I also bought 4 shirts and 2 swimsuits. It wasn't my birthday or even Christmas, but it was a BLAST!!! My other sister begged off the day activities but she was there for her birthday dinner. Good thing, or perhaps it wouldn't have been so nice after all. LOL.

Janie, I am glad your husband is proactive with his health. Cancer is such a nasty thing. Wish it didn't exist at all.

Laura, hope you mend fast. Thank god it wasn't any worse then what it was. Take time and heal.

Shoegal, you definately rate on my list as super duper spectacular. Fostering animals is a noble calling. Hooray for you and hooray for those lucky critters!!!!

Happiness is not achieved by the conscious pursuit of happiness; it is generally the by-product of other activities.--Aldous Huxley--

Stay happy!!!

It was a full and busy weekend, but did get the exercise in. Friday was STS disc 30, chest and back, Saturday was break day, and Sunday was LIC cardio blast timesaver with sister. This morning, disc 31, plyo legs. This week and last were good on the plyo legs. That first week of meso 3 with plyo legs had me leery. Can't believe sister and I are heading for the homestretch with STS.

Laura: glad you are okay. I thought about you with all that snow. Thank goodness the injuries were minor. Sounds like you are going to be getting some good stretching time in this week.

Janie: sorry to hear about Joey, but at least he is diligent with his surveillance. Good for him and good for you. My Joe has gotten better with these things over time, but he goes through his bouts of moaing and groaning about having to go to the doctor.

Shadowpup: today I am definitely getting signed on to the president's challenge. Been dragging my feet.

We are in full spring mode here. The Cherry Blossom festival is underway and everything is absolutely beautiful, even though it is rainy right now. But got to have the rain too.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful Monday.
~michelle

Baking bread today, made 4 sourdough loaves. Joey wanted them, what can I say. I hope I don't hog them.:(

Renee, I bet you had a great time stepping together. Wish I could with my sisters. Good job!

Have you gone to the success stories yet about your success? You really should if you haven't. Wow, you are amazing! Congratulations.

Michelle, I'm so proud of the both of yas. Got to love STS. It works!

What is it with men and doctors. I just don't understand.

Joey used to be that way, but he is humbled now.

Have a nice rainy day.

Janie

Tried to post early this morning but lost it all  I am less inclined to type all that I had before so I will try summarize everything a little more. Did CleanMax on Saturday - well - it is predominantly all I do Saturdays anymore :p - did go out to dinner though and met up with some friends later. So that was fun. Lots of activity on Hobi - someone had left a note in our mailbox about possibly being interested. They came out on Sunday - met Hobi and liked him alot!!! They will need to do the preliminary paperwork and home visit before we can adopt him out though. There have also been other inquiries that we are now having some difficulty keeping tract of everyone. GSP rescue of PA is, of course, for the entire state - so there have been questions from people living in Philadelphia. We have final say on the adopting family to make sure he ends up in the right home.

Laura - What a terrifying experience!!! Thank God everyone is ok!!! Now rest and recover and take care of your girls. Enjoy the house and skiing - just have fun. It is funny but there is a creek by us on the road leading to the house that has a sharp bend - many times people end up in that creek. The guy who lives on that road often fishes them out. He says it happens alot when it rains.

Janie - fast walks are good - DH and I enjoy them alot. Rex's Aunt Maggie lives in Florida - she is 92 yrs old and regularly has to go into the doctor for skin cancer check ups. You have to hear her speak of it like this cancer is a minor inconvenience and an everyday occurance  I know this has to be difficult for both you and Joey - so big ((((Hug)))). I'm sorry you have to deal with this. The bread sounds good!!

Michelle - well, sounds like you had a great trip - and I have to say that STS seemed like it flew by - I'm amazed how quickly it went. Pretty soon it will end - but it sounds like you got some amazing things from it.

Renee - best time to buy clothes is when you are fit and trim - that is when it is highly enjoyable. When the reverse is true - well, then it is the pits!!! Getting something new is always fun too!

Shadowpup: Glad you got your rest day in there for a change. I wondered how I would handle the entire foster situation since I can see myself becoming attached. Right now I don't think I'll have a problem with letting him go - I never considered him to be all mine to begin with - just a stop between his former life and his new one. I am positive I'll miss him though. :(

gotta go - need to get some things done around here.

hey had a quick moment to check in...having a great time here with the fam damily. Certainly no lack of 'exercise' here, although purely through recreating which is why I do all this darn exercise in the first time so that I can PLAY!!! Yesterday I did 1:30 minutes X-country with my Sister-in-law and today I skied all day with the kidos. So fun, even my not yet 3 year old nephew got up on skis today! So lots of fun, read the posts but will catch up later got to go watch the video we took of each other skiing so we can critique our form..

Last night I did Amy Bento's ASC - this time mastering it enough to be passable. I really liked all of the combinations - super fun - easier than her other ASC workouts and I also liked that it was shorter - there is absolutely no dread factor. I would complain though, that she doesn't put all of the combinations together. After we learned combo 2 - I would assume she'd go back and tack on combo 1 but she didn't. I would have thought she'd put all the combinations together at the end - but she didn't. Hence, the brevity of the workout. She does have "Power Ups" and you can tack that on if you want - but I really wanted more time to master everything I learned. Oh my - nothing like a good step workout!! :D

So we are having some problems sorting through the applications of everyone interested in Hobi - but we just got permission to do a home visit for some people who are interested. I'm thinking that have the advantage of being fairly close.

Is everyone gearing up for an Easter Holiday?? What are your holiday plans for that? We go to church and eat ham. Usually there is a scavenger hunt - with clues for the children (all my nephews and neices) - some of which are getting too old for this.

Laura - glad you are enjoying yourself!!! Oh it does sound marvelous to have everyone out of doors having fun. It makes me yearn for vacation!! Is Bo there too? My husband always opts out of family vacation - since we all go to the beach which is so not his thing.

Hello out there to everyone else!!
