Forgot about the endless reps in Muscle Endurance!

I did the ME Upper Body premix last night - first time I've used this DVD in many months. I remembered the biceps section being dreadful, but I forgot about the neverending chest flyes (flies?) and overhead triceps extensions. I kept having to take breaks...

Does anyone else take breaks? If I were to attempt those sections with no breaks, I'd have to lower my weights considerably. I was using 7# for chest flies (much lower than I use in other workouts, and I still couldn't finish). Used a 5# plate for overhead triceps extensions and still couldn't complete them!

Just curious what everyone else does...

Thanks!
Melissa

I just finished ME about 40 minutes ago! I had to keep dropping the weight load...Felt like a wimp! I can lift pretty close to Cathe on strength DVDs but endurance? Forget-about-it! I'm a weenie! ;)

I don't take breaks now with ME, but I used to. Keep at it and you'll work your way up to it. There are some other workouts that I take breaks on. I feel no shame for it either ;)

I'm pretty sure its on DrillMax when she does the never ending bicpe curls!! She starts out with a bar & band (bless her heart) then goes to just a bar. Man am I talking to her near the end of those babies. Talk about a burn going on!!

I drop the weight for ME's bicep work. I can push up to 10s for biceps in other workouts, but for ME, I drop down to 7s and 5s.

Catherine,

I take breaks in other workouts too, but for an endurance workout like this, I didn't know if I should just take breaks when needed or lighten up my weight a lot so I don't have to. I'm wondering what would be most beneficial and help me progress?

Tami - I haven't done Drill Max that much - it's a toughie for me because I haven't been working out consistently lately. But I think I tried a few of those bicep curls with the band and said forget it. I remember it feeling tough but also weird. I've got to work my way up to that!

Lori - thanks for sharing what you use! So you use dumbbells instead of the bar? Maybe I'll try that. I tried a 20# bar and that was too much, so I decreased the weight to 10#. Not much in between for a barbell unless I use some of my Paceweights.

As wimpy as I felt, it did feel good to workout though!

ETA: Oops, meant to say that I decreased my barbell weight to 15#, not 10#. Was at work when I responded, was in a rush and had a major brain fart.

I just did Power Hour yesterday and it reminded me a lot of ME- man I am sore today! It's a good sore though- and I just love her lifting tips. She really gets me to isolate the good stuff. What is it about those static lunges though? They make me want to CRY (in ME and in Power Hour). On the low end pulses, I admit it, I come up one pulse early. :)

Patti - ooooh, those lunges in Power Hour...I love Power Hour - especially the shoulder work, but the lunges in that workout are killer. I seriously dread that workout because of the lunges. I also have to take a break between sides, otherwise I can't complete the reps on the other side. I know I make some pretty weird faces during the low end pulses. Ouch!

For me in an endurance w/o the goal is to complete all of the reps. So if I need to reduce the wt to do that then that's what I do. I work on completing all of the reps and then work on increasing the wt.

ME kicks my butt! I was so proud of myself the first time I got through all of those bicep curls with 10 lb weights. I still shave off a couple of those static lunges and tricep dips (one of the hardest exercises for me), but I can almost do all of them now.

Thanks for the advice! I will decrease my weights accordingly, even if it means using 3#. I hope I don't have to go that low though...

I'm going to do this workout again later today, or once I psyche myself up for it. Instead of doing just the upperbody premix, I'm going to try the whole thing. There was a time I could do it, but it's been so long, I'm a little intimidated. I may have to shave off a couple of reps too!
