Fitness favorites & accomplishments - '07

Favorite equipment: my step, db's, and bb b/c those are what I use regularly as well as my stability ball.

Favorite workouts: Amy's ASC II, SloMo Series, HiLo Dome Challenge, KCM's Cardio Kick Stepboxing

Best fitness accomplishments this year: Nothing spectacular but I'm proud of the fact that I workout on a regular basis and keep going strong at 37. I'm happy that I've branched out and discovered other instructors/workouts that I enjoy as much as my Cathe workouts. I feel that's an accomplishment for me b/c I used to be all Cathe all the way all the time. Oh, learning and enjoying more complex choreogrpahy (especially step) is an accomplshment for me this year!

This is a great thread.

-favorite new piece of equipment or gear?
Kettlebells

-favorite work (Cathe or non-Cathe)?
Gym Styles and AOS Providence (kettlebell workout)

-best fitness accomplishment this year?
Maintaining my workout schedule despite a very emotional year in which I lost my aunt who was very close to me.

Also, pushing myself at the fitness boot camp that I attended this year. I learned to really challenge myself...be it dragging 140 pounds or running bleachers in 110 degree heat.

>April, 15 lbs. and 2 pants sizes is awesome! How did
>you do it?

Thanks, Nancy!

Short answer is good eating and consistent exercise.

Long answer follows. ;-)

I got serious about what I eat and changed what I buy and what I eat. I started eating mostly foods that fit into the food pyramid or combinations of "pure" foods. Much less processed food. I still eat ice cream or cookies occasionally, but my overall eating habits I changed for the better. I also made sure I was eating the balance that the food pyramid suggests. And I only eat stuff I like. No rice cakes for me. Yuck. There's plenty of good food out there, I just have to find what works for me.

I combined that with a renewed commitment to exercising several times a week. I also added some light weight work mid-stream when I discovered circuit workouts.

It took me 4-5 months when I was actually working the plan. I took some time off and just maintained during some stressful times this summer.

No magic bullet, just good food and fun exercise. My catalyst was discovering my fasting blood sugar levels were pre-diabetic. Since my parents are diabetic as well as several other family members, I freaked out and determined to lose the extra pounds.

Now that I've lost the pounds, my goal is now to tone and sculpt, especially my thighs, abs and glutes.

I haven't bought much gear this year, but if I were to choose anything it would be my new sports bras from Champion. Much more comfortable than the others I'd been using and my HRM strap stays put better too.

For favorite workout, I am liking the 4DS. After using it just for one month, I can lift heavier than I could before.

For best fitness accomplishment, my resting heartrate is now down to 38 bpm.

1. my full-sized step and 4 risers, purchased for $10 at a yard sale in the spring. The Step isn't for sale in Canada anymore, so for me this was like finding a Picasso at an estate auction.

2. the LIS/HIS cardio combo premix.

3. completing P90X, Classic rotation.

Cheers,
Sandra

1. Garmin 305
2. Right now I'm enjoying 4DS and Slo Mo
3. Finishing 10 races during the Road Race Series which consisted of 2 races each of 5K, 5M, 10K, 10M and 2 half marathons.

Favorite new equipment
1. would have to be P90X, I have been doing it for a week now and feel great.

Favorite workout
2.Imax 3 pushes me to my limits every time.

Biggest Accomplishment
3. Running the Thanksgiving Turkey Day race in Cincinnati and finishing in 1:12 min, my fastest time ever 11:43 min/mile
Also continuing to lose weight and being able to fit better into my wedding dress!!!

Favorite new equipment- My new full size step. I had been using the shorter one due to room issues. I now have my own w/out room.
W/outs- I love the new 4DS and P90X
Accomplishments- After dealing with PF for so long, my feet are back. I have ran in 2 5ks and have been increasing my running slowly. I feel that it's an accomplishment to be back running full speed ahead. For awhile, I thought I'd never be able to run again.

Favorite new piece of equipment:

Cathe travel coffee mug :)

Favorite workout:

I still love step best - Step Blast

Accomplishments:

Being 52 and keeping up with all of the sweet young things for all four workouts on the Road Trip ( and also keeping up with some of the sweet old things - you other 50 somethings know who I mean)

1. My latest Sugoi hooded running top, Asics running top and Sport Hill Zone 3 running tights, purchased last night.

2. Weekend long runs.

3. Ran 3 marathons this year and qualified for The Boston Marathon at all 3!(two of the marathons were only 3 weeks apart).

I was just thinking about #3 during my run this morning and thought "Man, I've had a pretty awesome year".:)

Great thread!!!!!!

Favorite piece of equipment...Bowflex dumbells (and I've only had them a week!)

Workout...Kick, Punch, and Crunch

Accomplishment...being able to discover Cathe and her workouts, and this forum, and also being able to take occasional live classes with Cathe, and living to tell about it...:7

Awesome thread! I love reading all your favorite things and accomplishments.

Favorite piece of equipment ~ I acquired so much stuff in 2007 that it's hard to say. Spinning bike is probably #1 right now. After that, the high step and my barbell.

Favorite workout ~ KPC for sure!

Accomplishment ~ Staying consistent for one year now after a very long hiatus from working out. Also keeping up with Robin on the road trip!!

*I don't think I bought any new gear this yr but I may get a new TM for christmas:)
*As for favorite workout, I was preggo when last yrs workouts were released and didn't start using them until Feb so BM2 would have to be my fav.
*Biggest goal would be everything I guess. I let myself go when I was preggo and now I am passed my prepreg weight, smaller then I can remember being in my adult life, back to lifting heavy, running longer and doing push ups on my toes. Its amazing at how quickly the body bounces back, it must have a good memory!

Hmmm....for some reason this thread is hard for me to answer.

Favorite piece of equipment....I don't know--I love them all! I guess I would have to say my Step since that was the first piece of equipment I got years ago and has kept me working out since then! I also LOOOOVE my barbell and dumbells.

Favorite workout: Dear god, i have no idea. Right now it's the 4DS but I also love Step Blast and BM2.

Biggest accomplishment: Quitting a gym and only working out at home. I never thought I could do it but now I can't imagine going back to a gym! Oh and maintaining my weight after moving to CT from Boston where I used to walk at least 3 miles everyday (NEVER drove). When I moved to CT I was so paranoid of gaining weight since I'd be so much more sedentary in my daily life. But, nope! Not with Cathe's workouts!!!

Favorite new piece of equipment or gear?

We moved into a new house this year and I have a workout room in the basement that I just love! I set it up with all my stuff and added a weight bench/squat rack, elliptical, spin bike, and a great flat screen TV to watch my DVDs.

Favorite workout?

I think my favorite new release this year (hands down) was Cathe’s 4 Day Split.

Best fitness accomplishment this year?

Coming back from a serious knee injury and surgery and running 3 half marathons and a 25k this year plus lifting heavy weights again. I actually trained for a marathon that was last weekend but missed registration (it sold out).

Last year I was struggling to walk without a limp and barely off crutches and a leg brace. The power of your body to heal is an amazing thing.

This is a great thread!!

1. Oh, I would have to go with my new Cathe bag from the road trip. It goes everywhere I do!!

2. I LOVE the kickboxing from the 4DS!! Other than that, I love all the Gym Styles!

3. I accomplished alot this year in terms of fitness: I began teaching Cardio/Sculpt classes and got certified as a Personal Trainer and a Fitness Nutrition Coach and have been building a home based Personal Training Business. I have also exceeded my expectations in strength training!!

**BTW** 1. Robin, never you mind... you were a tough one to keep up with yourself on the RT!!!

2. You are all so inspiring with your lists!!
