Fit Chicks do not have skinny legs!

You've probably already noticed this but I think it deserves a post! I do mostly Cathe videos but also some P90x and others. I am so glad to see that none of the fit women have skinny legs. It is very encouraging to me because I never have and never will have them either. Even the 2 girls in Kickmax who I believe haven't even had any children yet don't have skinny legs. I guess fit doesn't equal skinny but toned and lean!

dh hates skinny legs. i was watching the today show one day with the black eyed peas and dh was insulting fergie left and right for being to skinny and that she needed to cover up those chicken legs. but most other men of the world drool when they see her. i guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder and this beholder much prefers stronger, muscular but feminie legs.

I think that what is considered "skinny" and "fat" is relative to who is doing the looking. There are some who are not too keen on our beloved Cathe's physique. While I think those people must be out of their minds - they do exist!

Having "chicken legs" doesn't mean a person is not fit. We all have problem areas. Believe it or not some people actually have a hard time toning their legs to the standards that are deemed acceptable by others. Granted, a majority of the female population does not have this problem. I suppose that makes it easier to pick on those who do.

Nobody is perfect and I'm glad of it. I am also glad that there are as many men drooling (my DH is one!) over Fergie as not. It's proof that variety IS the spice of life.

Rogue,

Thanks for your post. As a "skinny" gal I am muscular and strong. I'd squat my skinny chicken legs against any comparable sized woman who doesn't have skinny chicken legs any day. If I didn't win, I'd be willing to bet I'd hold my own very well.

Bottom line, yeah, beauty is in the eye of the beholder; and strength and fitness are in the body of the beholdee. I'm sure you'd call my legs skinny, but don't call me not-fit.

"Fit chicks do not have skinny legs!" is quite an inaccurately inclusive statement.:)

As a "chicken leg" sufferer myself...I'd have to say for me loosing weight (unfortunately never gained in my legs though) has been much easier than gaining muscle. So some of us feel completely stuck with our unfortunate chicken legs and really hate to be bashed for it. There's nothing worse than getting ridiculed for something you are struggling to work on, and your genetics just really wants to make sure you don't succeed. I remember being in Dick's not too long ago and I heard/saw someone behind me calling me "chicken legs"...talk about making someone feel like crap!!

I feel I am VERY fit and am often impressed with what my little chicken legs can accomplish athelitically. Trust me it's not always by choice that someone has skinny legs. My legs have been a source of major self esteem issues for me all my life and I'd give anything to be able to bulk them up. So just as I wouldn't come on here and make harsh and unfair statements about those that have heavy legs, lets be nice to those that have skinny ones.

I have skinny legs and it runs in my family. I am also very tall so people notice it more. Some people are just naturally skinny and also very fit. What is wrong with a woman who has skinny legs and who is also very fit?? I like to see all kinds of women in all my workout videos. :)

Think again for I must disagree with you on that one. I am a fit chick and I have skinny legs. :D They are muscled and very well I might add. Before I ever worked out, they looked like the legs of an anorexic chicken. I have very tiny ankles and ever so slender legs and they are darned pretty in their skinniness! They are lean and well shaped and pure muscle but skinny. And I love them that way. You may never have them but I do!

at Bobbi's sexy chicken legs. I couldn't find a whistling smiley.:)

Aren't legs, even chicken legs, amazingly strong? I squat with 65 pounds because it's as much as I can safely get up on my shoulders unaided. When my husband is home or a spot I do 75. At the Y I can go higher but usually don't that point of dimishing returns. Melody, my kindred spirit and chicken-legged muse, you complete me. Chicken legged fit chicks rule!

Interesting and elightening to see the world from the other side.

Hmmm as someone who carries extra lbs on the legs I never saw things this way.

The majority of our population equate skinny with fit and attractive. Fit is different for each and every one of us.

It can be enligtening to come to a realization that many woman who are considered fit and attractive are not stick thin and that they have curves and larger, defined muscles. (especially when that is characteristic of one's own body type)

I don't think the original poster meant to criticize anyone with "skinny" legs.

"I don't think the original poster meant to criticize anyone with "skinny" legs."

I have to agree here.

What I got out of the post was a woman with bigger/thicker legs finally feeling good about them. My legs have always been "thicker" than I'd like and therefore I lift super duper light on leg work as heavier weights bulk me up even more.

Maybe being in the original poster's shoes has something to do with what I took her post to mean...

She may have inadvertently offended and I can see how that would happen but I'm reasonably sure she didn't mean to...

What if the original heading of the post read..."Fit chicks don't have flabby abs!" Would that have been just as a benign statement as the original title? Or would that have come across as slightly offensive??? None of the girls in the videos have spare tires either...so does that mean that those of us who do (me included)aren't fit??? Or how about "Fit chicks don't have cellulite!" Still ok??

There's a way to choose your wording so that it does not offend. The original poster could have been a little more aware of this. I think this was what us "skinny legged" women were trying to point out.

I already posted that I understand how/why some would take offense to the post. I was simply stating that I don't think she MEANT to offend. :)

Wendy,

I wasn't trying to really single anyone out with the above post...just making a comment really. Just wanted to point out how generalizing statements never really come across all that well...that's all:D . While her intent very well may have been not to offend...she obviously did. I just wanted to make sure people understand that struggling with your body type doesn't always mean struggling to become "smaller", many of us struggle to become "bigger".

"Even the 2 girls in Kickmax who I believe haven't even had any children yet don't have skinny legs. I guess fit doesn't equal skinny but toned and lean!"
I'm not picking on the poster of this comment but I do find the word choice a reflection, as with the skinny legs comment, of our society's attitudes. I didn't know women, not "girls", could not have "skinny" legs if they reproduced. Also, it looks like plans are being made for them, as they have not had child(ren) "yet." Interesting.
