Fess Up -- Who Tans??

I know tanning is very bad for you, but I have been to tanning beds and they do feel really good (sort of like being in the womb or something, lol)... but for me it is a totally futile and fruitless task since I am about as white as you can get without applying baby powder.

:) :)

Cheers,
Marie

That is so funny about the spray-on tans. I always wonder how that works, like if you have to make monkey moves in the booth so the stuff gets everywhere.... lol.

It does remind me of how awful self-tanners were when they first came out. I am totally dating myself here, but I will tell you that in the early 90s, I was very often a burnt orange color. :+

Cheers,
Marie

What I would give to be able to go back in time..........I lived in AZ most of my life and now at 40 years old have such sun damage x( and have had some cancerous spots.........please, please take my advice save your skin and beautiful face, don't tan, bed or sun. In AZ you don't have to actually tan it's more like an immediate tanning microwave, step outside in august at 2 pm and your immediately tan :p. I always picture the old lady in "There's Something About Mary" leatherface :). That Friends episode with Ross is one of my all time fav's :D

I will fess up! I am addicted to using self tanners... I am very pale and hate it.. so to feel better and look better, I always have on a light "spray" tan. I used to use the sunless lotions and creams and have tried many of them, but my hands and feet never looked "perfect", always streaky. I have tried the Mystic Tan spray booth and it came out nice, no orange palms at all, it was a perfect, even, all over tan. That can get expensive, so I discovered an at home spray tan product called Jet Tan. It's a mini airbrushing machine that you can fill with any self tan airbrushing liquid you choose. You just spray your whole body as evenly as possible. I love it.. I couldn't live without it. You can get the Jet Tan on QVC. Right now I am using Tampa Bay Tan's spray formula with my Jet Tan. It is much healthier than tannings beds, and it beats being so pale when you want a little color.

Actually, you can get Jet Tan from home shopping network, not QVC (in case anyone was interested). OOPS!

Nope. I haven't been to one of those since my early 20's. And I always wear sunscreen, even in the winter. I don't care about having darker skin. I just care about premature wrinkles and skin cancer.

i will have to look into jet tan..thanks...after MANY years of abusing the sun and tanning bed....i am a topical tan cream girl now!! i am using RENOVA to help repair the damage!!i like tan perfect mousse that used to sell on HSN. i buy plenty every spring when they feature it!

Most likely I will. I always say I'm not going to, but then I end up going anyway. I'm blonde & very fair and it's not fun to be so pasty!! I know it's bad for me, but I can't help it!!

Amy,

Where do you spray yourself? In the shower or outside? How many times did it take you to get it even? Who does your back? Also, does it come off in the pool? I will be at the pool a lot this summer with my 2 little ones. I'm so white and do not tan if I tried. I would love to have a nice tan. It really makes your muscles stand out more. I did the Mystic tan one time before I went on my cruise in January and it looked good, but there were spots on my knees that did not get any. Plus it is expensive and only lasts for about 4 to 5 days.

Yep -- I tan. I don't smoke, I exercise, I eat healthy (most of the time), I don't drink too much -- so my bad habit is tanning. I am really affected by the weather and have a very difficult time with my mental state when it is rainy and cold. Tanning makes me feel better. It also makes me look better for now. Yes, I know about wrinkles (and cover my face most of the time). Yes, I'm afraid of skin cancer (and have been checked by a dermatologist). I tan about once every 2 or 3 weeks.

No, I wouldn't recommend it - but it's what I do.

I can pretty much ditto what Shonie said. The only difference is that I go from spring through mid summer and it helps control my minor acne.

I'm about the same as Mary. I spend so much time outdoors in the spring and summer that I do get a tan, and I do wear sunscreen.

I've also thought of going to the spray tan, not the booth but the one where an actual person sprays the tan on. I think one place does that in my town and I've heard it looks great.

I have psoriasis, so I have no choice--I'm a year rounder. The tanning beds are actually less harmful than the UV boxes at the dermotologist. I've been doing it for 22 years & never had a problem, but of course I see my derm once a month & watch things closely. But at this point I have no idea what my natural skin color is LOL.

That said, I do love the look too. :)

I do the spray tan thing. In fact, I am going today after work before my trip to Vegas this weekend. I think they turn out nice. I used to do the sunless lotion too, but I hated having to stand around the house for 30 minutes waiting for it to dry.

I think I'll have to try that Jet Tan thing.

Cinnamon,

I spray myself in the bathroom, but I make sure I stand on large towels covering the floor, and I cover the sink so it doesn't get all over the place. It took a few tries for me to get it right, but it looked pretty good even the first time (it is very forgiving, even if you're not experienced). Because of the fine mist that comes out, it isn't too hard to getit even. To reach my back, I just lean forward a bit and spray it over each shoulder (kinda letting it just fall on my back). As for the pool, I haven't tried swimming while wearing a spray tan yet. It may just fade faster from the chemicals in the pool. Hope that helps!:)

I'm going to be a downer here and lecture a bit - don't tan! I am very fair skinned and despite trying to be tan while in High School, for the majority of my life I have stayed out of the sun. At the age of 27 (which was years ago) I was diagnosed with melanoma. Thankfully, it was caught at an early stage and I didn't have to undergo chemo or radiation, but I did have surgery to remove the cancer and I now have a rather large and noticeable scar on my left knee. I would much rather remain the pasty white that I am then start a scar collection! One upside of staying out of the sun is your skin doesn't wrinkle - people always estimate my age at about 8-10 years less than it is.
If you really can't stand the way your skin looks, then use a self-tanner and sunscreen (but personally I don't see anything wrong with glow-in-the-dark thighs.
