Favorite Trader Joe's or Whole Foods stuff

Cynthia where on earth do you live? They charge $2.79 for them here. :(

Wow! That's really high!!! I live in Missouri.
I just took my receipt out to double check. I pay $1.59 a box. I stocked up on 14 boxes. I'm good for a month:D.

It's $ 1.99 in Arizona.

It is good!! But for all the sugar phoebics out there please be advised that there is added sugar in it ;)

Another thumbs-up for TJ's....

In addition to the healthy items like nuts, frozen fruits, and "quick cook steel cut oats" ( a fairly new item at my store), I love the frozen chocolate-covered bananas and a certain Italian wine.

I think it depends on what you want. Although some of the products are similar, the stores are very different. Whole Foods, affectionately (and not) called Whole Pay Checks is an upscale market specializing in organic foods. They offer many good things for some reasonable prices, but I have trouble getting out of there with paying less than $200.00. But they are the place I'll go if I have company coming and I was good fish, good produce and/or good meat. They really do have the best. And their cheese selection is to die for.

Trader Joe's has a more limited selection, but they usually have much better pricing and some of their staples are just delicious (as other posters have pointed out).

I go to both. I would say I go to Trader Joe's more often because DH and I are trying to save $$. Whole Foods is not the place to go if you're trying to do that. :D

If you're single the guys shopping at Whole Foods are hotter :p;).

Hmm, single guy shopping at Whole Foods... Not sure about your area, but where I live, most (okay, not all, but the vast majority) of single men shopping at whole Foods are not exactly interested in people of our gender.

grape jelly

at Trader Joe's doesn't have corn syrup. I put that on pbj sandwiches for my brother. He eats it just fine. Also, they do have a puff pastry without the obvious offenders but I put on a few pounds of fat with that stuff so watch out. They have an organic ricotta cheese which (here anyway) is way less expensive than at the Raley's (local grocery store) I use that in lasagna. Their crackers don't have the corn syrup so I use the round butter ones on casseroles instead of Ritz. But, that should also be treated as a treat because even if it is an organic cracker it can still stick to your butt, if you know what I mean. :p

I get B12 at TJs. I don't buy protein powder there because all of it has soy and I can't do soy. (dagnabit my ovaries are a bit over zealous:D)

I get organic milk at the regular grocery store.

Our whole foods stores have actually had singles' events because they've gotten the reputation of being a good place to meet people.

I love their mini pitas, sweet & spicy pecans (oh my) and many of their salad dressings. The cinnamon schoolhouse cookies are tasty too... LOL In fact, I've made a 45 mile trip there just for a stock up trip on the dressings (and found other things to do there too). Oh, how I wish we had one closer!

I love TJ's peanut butter filled pretzels, Belgian dark chocolate (they call it 'bittersweet'), whole wheat english muffins, the 6 oz. lowfat organic strawberry yogurts (tastes just like Stonyfields), chicken chipotle patties, organic creamy peanut butter, low sugar raspberry jam, extra virgin olive oil, shredded wheat cereal, uncured bacon, buffalo burgers, turkey party size meatballs, some Indian spinach sauce, dried apricots, all nuts, Barbara's brand Shredded Oats, I could go on and on!

For special occasion breakfasts (Xmas, Easter) I buy their frozen croissants and chocolate croissants. Trust me, they are incredible even though they look so tiny when you pull them out of the package. They thaw & rise overnight and grow 3x their size, then rise even more in the oven. Total YUM!

TJ's prices are excellent, even compared to regular grocery stores and substantially lower than Whole Foods. I do agree that the fruit at WFs tend to be better. They sell their own brand as well as 'healthy' name brands like Barbara's, Kashi, King Arthur Flour, etc.

The fresh food to go at WF's is amazing. I've taken DH and some friends there and they were all blown away. Their 365 brand is more reasonably priced and excellent quality. The maple butter is to die for on scones.

Gotta go wake the kiddies...

Trader Joes has their own brand of steel cut oats that cooks in 8 minutes - I love it. And their dark chocolate, sea salt almonds are one heck of a treat!

The nearest Trader Joe's is 65 miles from my house, so I was very excited when my local Kroger's (i live in the midwest) started stocking Ezekiel bread in the natural food section in the freezer case. Now I go to TJs once a month to load up on their nut mixes.

LOL Christine ! Just about spit my coffee out at that one !

I think it could have to do with the area in which we live.
