Ever have one of those days........

where everything feels hard? Whats up with that?x(
I just finished ME and I feel like I was put through the ringer! I was sweating buckets, I felt shakey, I was getting fatigued faster....I was really starting to get annoyed with myself. My heart rate was getting so high that I would have to stop and put myself together.
But I did do the workout.I forced myself to put up with my laziness and lack there of.
I just thought it was weird b/c I rarely get like it...anyone else have those days? I am going to do a little run now before I take my daugther to gymnastics.Lets see how that goes...:)
Lori

Lori:

I don't understand, you've just done ME and your body protested and it was an unpleasant expwerience and now you are going to run?

Please rest, that's what your body is telling you. An hour on the couch with feet up and a good magazine or book that's what you need.

Hoping you feel better tomorrow,

CLare

I don't mean I was ready to collapse or anything...but I was just having an off day.I don't think that I really need much of a break b/c I didn't have THAT hard of a week and I haven't lifted in about 4 days.It was probably b/c I ran for 60 min last night at around 9 so really that was only 13 hours ago.I had my feet up for about 15 hours yesterday.Im not use to lying around the house and I have to say,I didn't really enjoy it either.
I did run after though.I only ran for 20 min and that was alot easier.
I just think that ME is really challenging and it can get your heart rate going.SHe doesn't give you much of a break in between sets so you don't really get to catch your breath. And I haven't done it in along time, prehaps I forgot what was in store for me.
I was just wondering if anyone else had those experiences before, where you have done a workout a million times before but on this one particular day, it feels like you have never lifted a weight:)
Trust me...I rested enough yesterday and the day before.
Lori:)

I'll tell you what has made a tremendous difference for me, since I resolved to do Power Hour once a week. I have done it five times since then. That is, I make a protein/meal replacement shake (Myoplex Deluxe) and have about half to a third of it before my workout. (I work out at 5 a.m. and I need food.)

Anyway with the rest of the shake I take some breaks between sections of the workout and take sips, especially before harder sections, like the lunges.

It really adds energy and stamina to my performance. Maybe having done the same workout 5 times in 5 weeks also helps. I was getting too much variety before.

Lori, Clare is right. You need to wait, eat a little something and give your muscles time to fill up with glycogen again before running. Only run today if a big dog chases you. If not, rest or just do ordinary activities. That's my prescription.:) :)

BUt I did eat my breakfast, I had a bagel with light cream cheese.I didn't have any protein though.Thats gonna be my dinner.
Prehaps I should have rested but I felt like pushing myself and I wanted to get my workouts over with so I could start my day.I have to much to do later.
Thanks for your thought girls, and maybe I should shedule PH and ME in there more often.I have been doing PP and SS lately and I don't find them as challenging.
Lori:)

Don't question it. Just listen to your body. It knows things you don't! For example, you may be coming down with something and your body needs all it's energy to fight off the impending illness.

Excuse me for being so blunt, but I think you're crazy to go for a run!

-Nancy

I agree with Nancy. Your body IS trying to tell you something. I too have had days where I can't perform at my peak...sometimes well below it. Take a rest day or two.

So, even Energizer Bunnies have those days! When your limbs feel leaden and you can't get into the rhythm. Do you do rest days, Lori? Sometimes those feelings are indeed a sign you need a break. Sometimes, you just have an off day for no apparent reason. Listen to your body. Bodies are wise!

I started my day with a blood curdling scream coming from the downstairs bathroom. It was me, stepping on the scale and seeing I was up two pounds. I'm retaining Niagra Falls. My wedding ring, which usually slides around on my bony finger, ain't budging. And after years of simply being a witch with a capital B and looking like I was starting to show, I am experiencing breast tenderness pre-P. What's up with that? Of course, there was a recent fling with a Krispy Kreme doughnut but my rational mind knows one doughnut does not a two pound weight increase make.

I had a 4 miler on the calendar which is a half a mile increase from my previous 2 runs and it was so hard today! To top it off, it's windy, my least favorite weather condition. But it's over! Yay!

How are you, young lady? I have to start checking in again. I have been a bum this month. Coming off four months of heavy training and just about to start my endurance rotation, I got a sinus infection. I can go years and never get sick even when my family are dropping like flies every cold and flu season. It's been hard to get back on track but I think I'm ready. :)

If you continue to experience fatigue during workouts, you could be showing signs of over-training and you might need a Spa Day!

P.S. Carbs are ok for a pre-workout breakfast but post workout, you do need to replenish your protein so you can lay down some good muscle! My post workout meal, which is sometimes a second breakfast (I'm a hobbit!) and sometimes more like lunch, always contain quite a lot of protein, particularly on strength training days. Are you eating enough and balancing your meals? It sure helps stave off fatigue!

Have a beautiful day!

HI Bobbi,
THings have been good here. And yes, even bunnies need breaks!:)
I do take rest days (beleive it or not) Friday I didn't do anything but I did have a slumber party for 10 kids.I ended up cleaning yesterday morning but after that,I was lazy, took a nap..and finally around 9 I ran for an hour.It may have to do with the fact that my eating habits have been far from perfect the last two days.Im sure that contributes to something.
You didn't scream b/c you gained two pounds! Now,what are going to do about that???????? Let me know, so that I can do it to:)
Not much happening around here.We are planning a trip for the first part of April. We have Britney Spears tickets(for my daughter)so we have to go outside of the province for that. And we have to stay with relatives. We are just going to go for a long weekend.
We recently heard that the show is suppose to be a little not nice????? A little grown up maybe? I wish she could make up her mind.Is she for adults or is she for teens? I guess you never know when you start in the music industry. And we also heard that she has already cancelled two shows b/c she hurt her knee.I better not leave home, get somewhere else and find out that there isn;t a show.I hate being away from home.I just don't like depending on people to pick us up at the airport and then bring us back again.I hate being a bother.
ANyway, whats knew with you? I am feeling a little nappish!
Lori:)

Bobbi,
One doughnut, even a Krispy Kreme, does not a fling make. That's a mere flirtation girlfriend. Just so we're straight on this. ;)
-Nancy

Everyone has those days! I usually have them a couple of days before my TTOM. I have no endurance and my strength is reduced. Usually, I do what I can on those days, but if you're fatigued due to possible overtraining, take a rest day or two and get back in the game.

You'll see, when you come back and you'll feel renewed and ready to take on the world.

Take care :)

Well, thats your opinion I guess. But the run felt nice actually.I was a little weak in the weight work but I could have went longer on the cardio.
It was a day where your brain was into it but your body wasn't.
I have been working out for 5 years so I know when to stop and when to start.I took two rest days last week and somedays where only 30 min cardio days so I KNOW I didn't overtrain.

I know when to listen to my body, weather it be overtraining, injury, flu syptoms, this was just a slump that working out got be out of.If I had listened to my body I would have been in a slum of lying around on the couch and going to the cupboard every 1/2 hour to get some choc.Instead I kept myself moving and I am having a great day.I think a person can tell, if a illness is comming on or if they are just being lazy. And I was just being lazy.I was just wondering how many people have those kinds of days, thought it would be a nice tread, I didn't really need to be told when to listen to my body.I am well aware of those signs.
Thanks again,
Lori

Oh, yes, the sleepover! You survived and that could account for your sluggishness this morning. Ten kids'll suck the energy right out of you! LOL!

Britney seems to have embraced her inner hussy. I hope that all works out for you. Just let your daughter know you draw the line at belly shirts and snakes for adornment!

I am really good. Spring has sprung in Arizona and we have 90 degree temps and everythings blooming. Pretty if somewhat hard on the schnoz. The wind is strong today. I swear you can see the pollen and allergens blowing all oer the place.

I am always good for a nap but I need to get this place cleaned up. The teens have both gone out for the day so I can work without tripping over some prone body. Sadly, naps seem to make me cranky lately which could be a sign I should skip the nap so I won't wake up before the roosters. Otherwise, all is well.

So tell me, do you have a horror story for the next young mom who wants to know about sleepovers or did it go well?

Lori, YES, I have them from time to time. It's very weird! It's even happened with some of my "easier" Firm workouts. And, it's the same as you experienced...I want to work out, but everything seems like such an effort, even with lighter weights. For me, it's not a problem of rest...I always get at least two days rest per week and sometimes an extra day if I have appointments scheduled, so it's something else. It's happened in the morning when I generally have TONS of energy, and it's happened in the afternoon when I'm usually more tired, but have lots of food in me for fuel. Weird! :)

Lori,

I think Clare was only being concerned. Trying to help and say "have a rest" ... i think your reply was a little "off". She was, after all, just being kind. You could try it? You might like it?

Well, first things first.I am not a one of those fighters around here.I am a very out going person and I rarely get offended by someting someone says.
Its just that everyone was telling me to have a rest day when I knew I didn't need one.I was looking for reasoning beyond that.Maybe someone could have contributed to ME being a very difficult workout. I don't mind people stating there opinions or thoughts on the matter.I actually feel good that people care enough to tell me to rest but I stated in serval post that I knew rest wasn't the problem.
Thats why I don't like posting anything on here that isn't positive feedback b/c it always gets taken the wrong way.
Sorry if I offended anyone with my post.I read it over a few times to make sure that it wasn't offensive to anyone but I guess I was wrong.I just wanted to let everyone know that rest wasn't a problem and once again get any feedback on other reasoning why a workout may be harder somedays then others.
Lori:)

Getting back to your original question, I find that some of the endurance workouts (PH and to a lesser extend ME) are more tiring when I haven't done them for a while than are the more strength-oriented workouts. Maybe it depends on one's muscle type? I find S&H to be almost a breeze sometimes compared to PH.

Somedays, I have a hard time getting myself to do a workout, even though I'm not physically tired, but having a lot to choose from helps. If I start out doing an "easier" workout, I sometimes find that I get energy along the way. Of course, there are those few days when the pep is just not there (sometimes just at TTOM, for example).

Sometimes it IS because one's body is gearing up to deal with either an impending illness or maybe just accumulated stress (exercise is a stress, as is a hectic workday, or an emotionally trying period, but it's more fun!).

On the other hand, don't you just love those days when you feel like a usually challenging workout is easy (or almost so). Like you could keep on going after the workout is done?
