DVDs when lacking motivation?

Hi all -

I posted about this in the Open Discussion but I thought maybe if I asked a more targeted quesiton I could get some better responses...

I have seriously been lacking motivation the last two weeks. Are there any DVDs that you guys do that you find really help to pump up the motivation?

I'm on Week 4 of the Beginner Rotation and seriously...I have only done 1 workout this week. :\ I know I could go outside or whatever, but it is FREEZING here in the Seattle area so I'd prefer to stay indoors and stick to my Cathe workouts.

Any advice?

Since I have discovered Cathe workouts (about a year ago) I never seem to lack motivation. But I did sometimes pre-Cathe! However, my favorite Cathe workouts that always seem to motivate me are Bootcamp, Crossfire, Cardio Leg Blast, All Out Low Impact HIIT, Supercuts, STS Total Body, Muscle Max, High Step Challenge, Push Pull and Supersets.

After I wrote that, I went to look at the beginner rotation and I don't own any of Cathe's workouts on it (and I own most of them). So I don't know if you have any of the ones I listed. However, if you are in the beginner range, Push Pull and Supersets are probably the easiest of the ones I listed. I just love Push Pull, btw. It is fun, fast moving and is a really great workout.

Yes push pull... Legs n glutes... Low impact circuit is fun and body max 2 makes for feel peppy... U also may like low max! Im also thinking of the music in these! Push play, listen to the music and let go... Have fun. Hope that helps

keeping motivated

Hi candiceena,

Try your hardest to complete at least the rotation you are currently on.

I would like to ask you a question. Have you got any program, rotation, try out planned after the completion of your current rotation. If you have planned , for example to try out another cathe or other instruction DVD, I suggest you view it when you have time. Planning ahead, in my opinion can help keeping the motivation going.

If you manage to complete this rotation, I suggest you try circuit.
They are fun and also help. If you tried various cathe's or other workout, you must have few favourite. When you are loosing motivation pick the one you enjoy the most and give it your best. This hopefully will re-start the enthusiasm to keep going getting fit.

My tip is always have a DVD to try out. This has always worked for me:):):)
Think of what you have also achieved so far. You must have gained a goal so far. This must also help.

I wish you the very best,

Hi Candiceena. Prior to Cathe I also lacked motivation at times. I've been faithfully working out for about 2 years getting up at 5 am every morning but have only been doing Cathe for about 5 months. The problem I had prior to Cathe was I would do a 3 month rotation of another product from Beachbody and would love it but after doing it several times throughout the year I was sick of it and really wanted to find something where I didn't have to just buy a 3 month rotation. Then I found Cathe and I just love her. I need variety so I am constantly watching the deal if the day for what I am interested in so I can build my library of DVDs so I don't get bored. I am also looking ahead to see other rotations I may be interested in. I'm currently doing STS and I love it and work my other DVDs in as to what I want to do that day.

Best of luck to you. Prior to working out for the last 2 years it was kind of hit or miss for me. Just wasnt motivated because I was bored hitting the treadmill or elliptical every day. Variety is the key for me.

Hi girls -

thanks to everyone who responded, I really appreciate your help and feedback!

Yesterday I popped in the LIS Total Body Trisets DVD and just did the 33 min premix for Back Biceps & Core - I loved it! I also loved the Lower Body premix from this DVD. I had never done these two prior to this week so I'm glad I tried them.

I definitely appreciate the suggestion to at least finish my current rotation - I really have a tough time sticking w/ things I start them (I always get distracted)...So I am definitely going to push thru w/ this rotation - I was really pumped up the first two weeks (the rotation changes every 3 weeks) and then the third week is when I had difficulty - so I am considering just shortening the rotation by changing it every 2 weeks instead of every 3 weeks.

Do you guys ever change up the rotations a little bit to suit your indvidiual needs?

I also really like the suggestion to have a new workout to try, and to "prepare" - I think the same way so I will definitely use that suggestion...

Have any of you gals tried out the 4-day split workout? It was the DOTD a while back and I didn't buy it because Id just bought Body Blast and LIS. I keep thinking about that series and I really want to purchase it!

I ADORE 4DS. I hate the step cardio portions btw--very complex choreography, but I love the kickbox and bootcamp cardios. And I love all of the strenth segments. Definitely money well spent.

I generally create my own rotations now, but I have been following the Xtrain 90 day rotation and I change things frequently to suit my own needs. I stick basically to the structure, but I often use different premixes--especially on weekends when I have time for a longer workout. I also throw in Crossfire, To The Max and Afterburn because they are some of my favorite workouts and I just miss doing them, so I find a way to fit them in. :D

I was going to recommend 4DS as a motivational item...I encourage you to pick it up the next time it rolls around to Deal of the Day.

Those are some short, quick, high energy workouts. The High Intensity Step is worth the effort to learn...just to get to the end! LOL! (That last song is my all time Cathe fave).

My best advice is to simply be kind to yourself. Treat your own body and your own self as if you were your own best friend.

And YES...change it if you want! Just keep moving.

4DS

Just to add my 2 cents about 4ds.
I would recommend it. Watch out the daily deals ;)

I love the music and particularly the oriental music played on both steps segments. I love complex athletic choreography. I can not recall having difficulties learning these two segments but each person is different. The kickboxing segment is intense and first time I attempted it I had a feeling of wanting more!!!:):):). I must remember to add this segment more often in my routine cause I really love it.

I love the scenery and the dark brown outfit worn by cathe and the crew for the bootcamp segment. Dark brown is an un-usual colour for fitness clothing.

All the best,

Well that is great to hear the positive feedback about 4DS...I really want to add the 7 new Cathe workouts to my collection so I will be preordering them in a day or two (DB is going to get them for me as an anniversary present) but I also *really* have been thinking about 4DS ever since they were DOTD. I will definitely add them next time around. :)

I change rotations all the time! I sometimes splice 2 rotations together if I like aspects or certain weeks of both.

Motivation can be tough to find sometimes. Nowadays, if I've been consistent with my workouts and clean eating all month I'll chill out for a day or two when I lack motivation. I usually start missing Cathe and can't wait to workout. Plus it's hard to find motivation and energy during TOM. It's perfectly fine to take a day or 2 off and just rest.

I also find Oxygen magazine to be pretty motivating. It really gives me a shot in the arm when I need it.
What helped me when I first stared was setting goals. For example, I really wanted to be able to finish Kick Punch & Crunch so I stuck to a rotation that helped me work up to it. I'd watch that workout and try different sections to learn it and keep me on track.

Whenever Cathe announces a new series I put together a rotation to build up my stamina so that I'm ready for what she throws at me. That keeps me motivated for months! Not kidding.

I have 4DS and I love it! I saw wonderful increases in strength, definition and cardio stamina from the drills in BC. HIS has some tricky combos but they are short and I love the music! The premix options are fantastic! Plenty of variety to keep you motivated and your muscles guessing!

Nothing motivates me more than improving my fitness. For instance, if I couldn't do 8 pushups last week but I can this week, that makes me want to keep working out :) I have a tendency to do a given workout for 2-4 weeks in a row so I can see improvement with it. Or if I haven't done a workout in a while and I go back to it and it's easier now than it used to be I get totally geeked

Another thing that keeps me going is not wanting to start over. In terms of loosing weight and in terms of loosing my fitness level. Starting over absolutely sucks. Been there done that and not doing it again. Anytime I want to skip a workout, I remember how hard it was to get to where I am and how terrible starting over will be. That ALWAYS works for me!!

In terms of rotations, I have a tough time with them(I have workout ADHD :D). I do try to at least stick to my plan for the week. That's because I try to balance out the week with UB, LB, and cardio. Having balance in a given week forces me to at least stick to the plan for a the week. I do not beat myself up over not finishing a rotation as long as I continue to workout. Ditching a rotation to just sit on the couch is unacceptable.

Atompki - thanks for the feedback. I totally can relate on seeing improvements to fitness. I posted a few weeks back about how I was super stoked that I could do the entire Basic Step DVD @ a 6" step without stopping whereas before, I had to decrease the step height 1/2-way thru.

I can also relate to starting over...Starting over sucks. There is no doubt about it. I never really thought about it much though until I just now read what you wrote...and I put it on a post it note and stuck it up next to my workout calendar. Thanks for reminding me of that tip. I think it will def help me in the future!!

And thanks for the OK to change up a rotation. You are def right - as long as we keep working out, that is what is important. Fat loss is my #1 goal right now so I think I might actually try to supplement some cardio in, if I do any changes. My motivation seems to have returned (I also did not realisze it was almost TOM when I posted this originally so that kind of makes sense on why I was sort of out of it, motivation-wise!)

I've never done a rotation because I don't have the budget or collection of workouts but I picked up a couple of strategies for maintaining motivation on this forum. One is to watch the video clips. I've never done that but just reading the postings on this forum gets me thinking about working out and often is enough to get me going.

Someone once wrote that when she is on the fence about working out she gives it 5 minutes and allows herself to walk away if the workout isn't going well. I've tried that strategy (telling myself I can do anything for 5 minutes in a manner analogous to the way Cathe often says you can do anything for a minute) many times and have always found myself feeling better once I got started and never quitting.

Mixing it up by using combinations of premixes from more than one workout recently reinvigorated me. For example, I realized that I had stopped doing IMAX3 because of a dread factor from the high impact, so I used the all-step premix from IMAX3 and the blast-only premix from Low Max and created what felt like a new workout. The premixes provide a lot more versatility than I realized until now.

I hope these little tricks are helpful.
