drill max vs butts and guts

hi guys! i'm new to working out with cathe, but am excited about getting started. i'm an advanced excerciser and have a hard time finding dvds that are challenging enough. i've read about each dvd and have watched the clips and think i've narrowed down my 2 favorites.

i do not like dancey type workouts and want a killer cardio workout...which is why i liked the drill max. on the other hand i want to work my lower body intensely as well. i just had a baby so my once 6-pack is a little "squishy!" this is why butts/guts appealed to me.

i need pros and cons to each dvd. also, i'm on a budget which means not alot of extra money for equipment

thanks!

Drill max is a great challenge! I think drill max will serve both your cardio needs, and your lower body intensity needs. Each drill includes a leg portion - squats, lunges, etc that keep your heart pumping but really work the legs too. The only thing it might be lacking is ab work, but there is some incorporation through stabilizing and keepin good form during the weight work.

Disclaimer: I don't typically enjoy lower-body only workouts just because I like to get my heart rate up more when I workout. As a result, I have only done B&G once.

Also, I think the equipment requirements are about the same for either work, with drill max requiring the step and butts and guts not.

Hope this helps.

i'm exactly the same way. i love to get my heart pumping as much as possible.

your post is very helpful...thanks!

I agree with getting the heart pumping but B&G's gets my heart rate going. I would go with dRILL Max though because it has all of your requirement except the abs. I know getting all the DVD's at once is very expensive. Do you have fitv where you live? Cathe is on everyday. The w/outs are edited for time but you still get a good w/out. HTH

If you like kick-boxing at all, you might find the Kick, Punch and Crunch/Legs and Glutes DVD to be a good choice. The kick-boxing is intense cardio, working the upper and lower body along with the core. It also includes a good abs workout before the stretch. Legs and Glutes is a good lower body weight workout.

This DVD is about $45, compared to about $54 for the Butts and Guts and Drill Max DVDs.

I think these are all well done workouts, with a variety of well done pre-mixes. Enjoy whichever ones you choose.

I agree with the above poster about KPC. However of the 2, Drill Max or Butts and Guts, I would go with Drill Max. Even though it doesn't have an abs section, your abs get worked!! It is not dancy and it is a great workout. You do need a stability ball for it. It is my favorite of her new workouts. Do this once or twice a week and you should be back to your "pre baby" body in no time!

It's too bad you can't get both. They are really very different. DM is one of my all time favorites for cardio. But for leg burn, and a great ab w/o, you can't beat B&G. There's a wonderful premix, the leg blast, that absolutely fries your glutes, and does raise your heartrate as well.

I also agree with the poster who recommended the KPC dvd since it's awesome cardio, plus has a leg/glute workout as well on the same dvd.

Maybe you can rationalize your purchases by considering how much you save working out at home, rather than joining a gym!;-)

Trust in the LORD with all your heart.

hi jessie, i am pretty new here also. but i have done drill max twice and everything these ladies say is true. it is TOUGH, and a good lower body workout too. i am with ya'll, i can't stand floor work either. i want to work, work, work, as cathe says.

i also have slow and heavy, which i do like a lot, even though it is not cardio, it still gets your heart rate up and i sweat like crazy.

and i just ordered cardio fusion, so i can't wait to try it. and i have several off of fittv that i like. but they are shorter, due to commercials, but i think they are still hard.

Either workout has plenty of equipment. You need a step, dumbbells, a ball (for Drillmax) and a band. If you are looking for an equipment free workout, KickMax is a good choice. KPC uses a ball at the end for abs and uses a step and dumbbels for Legs and Glutes.

I like Butts & Guts, but it is not a cardiovascular workout. That said, Butts & Guts does move at a faster pace than Cathe's heavy weight training videos.

So you will get some cardiovascular benefits, but I think of Butts & Guts as a toning and sculpting workout.

Butts and Guts uses one set of 5 lb. dumbbells, a 6 foot resistance band, a loaded barbell for deadlifts and squats and a Stability Ball.

I think if you want to tone your lower body, I'd go with Butts and Guts.

I did it last night and I sure feel the results today!

You are going to LOVE cardio fusion!

It is the best cardio workout I've done in a long time and there are some good premixes as well!

For me, Cardio Fusion is a must-have to any Cathe cardio lover!
