Dream Body workouts

Cathlete
Anyone doing these? I caved and ordered the first set from TotalFItnessDVDs for $99-should arrive this week. If you are, do they compare in any way to any Cathe workout? They just look totally different which is why I ordered them to shock my body in a new way.

Yes, I would like to know the answer to this question also. If no one, answers, please let us know what you think of them.

For myself, I was looking at them, and though they looked somewhat good, I just was not sure I wanted to pull the trigger and get them because they also looked a little weird with the crazy bubble thing. (or maybe that was another workout--if so, sorry...I look at so many!)

best wishes.

The crazy bubble thing was the first single workout. They now have out 2 series. They are too fast and frantic for me but many love them. If you visit videofitness.com. you can read many threads about DB. They are completely different from Cathe.

Hello,
I bought the first series when it came out earlier this year and returned it. The pace on these was frantic, like I've never seen before, non-stop chattering, bad form, and just kind of bananas. The concepts behind the workouts are good, though. The moves are tough and innovative, the workouts are challenging, and I think they can be very effective when done properly. I'm eyeballing the second series because I do think these workouts can be very effective. I just wish they would slow it down, tone down the chatter, and do the moves with better form and more precision. A lot of folks do the moves at their own pace and just use the workouts as a guide, which could certainly work.

Let us know how you like them. I had a love-hate relationship with the first set, and at that price, I just decided to send them back. If they were cheaper, or sold separately, I would have kept a few of them.

I bought the first series also and returned them for the same reasons There is a new series coming out called StudioMixx that looks very similar to DB but slower and more controlled. I plan on checking these out.

Phyllis, I have the first StudioMixx workout which was available via download. It is similar to Dream Body, but it's honestly not as innovative or as fun. The moves just are not that interesting. But, that being said, it is a solid intermediate workout and the instructor is not as frantic. It has three solid sections and uses minimal equipment. It has standing work, barre work, mat work and floor work, so it's well rounded. I am also thinking about her full set, but I need to see some clips.

Maybe the 3 DVD series will be better than the single download. I have been waiting to see clips also but now I have become totally distracted by Rudy Mettia's Yoga Warrior 365.

Just looked at extensive clips for the new series on totalfitnessdvds.com.

No way. Frantic is the word for these! Not just frantic movement, requiring very light weights indeed, but frantic speech. They are out of breath from talking so damn much and so damn fast with these itty, bitty, super childish, feminine, little voices. Can't stand it. No way on earth I'd get these......

Plus the false promise in the blurb annoys me: "these workouts will make you look 20 years old again." What crap. Cathe could make me into the most agile, most fit, strongest version of my best 48 year old self, but even she could not make me look 20 again!

Clare

Clare, your posts always crack me up. You definitely have a way with words. :D
There was a lot of fussing on the VF boards because they have a workout called MILF. A lot of ladies found that very insulting!

There's no denying the Dream Body ladies are in very good shape. Those workouts are killer and they sail through them with no problem. I just don't understand why they all talk so fast. It's weird the way they ALL SOUND THE SAME. I'm not sure what that's about.

Clare, you made me look ...

...and my face is still in that absurd contortion of disbelief. Watching the clip was silly enough and by the 2 minute mark I was thinking that is the most disorganized, anxiety producing cluster (you fill in the word) workout I've seen in a long time. I can't follow the people in the video because they all seem to be doing something a little off or faster or slower or different and I can't follow the voice or is cuing a better word, and the moves are ridiculous. All these tiny compounded moves done hyper fast with toothpick weights are confusing, what the hell is it you are really concentrating on? This would lead to frustration for me and to be brutally honest, you couldn't pay me to waste my time or money doing something like this. I x'd out of the clip at the 5 minute mark.

Lol, Both Clare and DirtDiva have entertained me through your posts :D:D:D.

To DirtDiva, Truth can feel brutal but it has to come up sometimes.
Your comments were really hilarious ;);)

As to question asked above: " which one of cathe's workouts is can be compared to these workout" Lol I "can NOT wait" for the answer :D:D:D

I certainly cannot think of a Cathe workout that compares to these, but I don't think that's a bad thing on either side. Thank goodness there are a variety of workouts available as there are always new ways to challenge oneself. After working out with Cathe for years and thinking I was in good shape because I can do her workouts without modifications, these DB workouts slayed me. They are tough and work the body in different ways for sure. However, their delivery leaves a lot to be desired.

Those weights definitely add up to some serious burning in the muscles, even though they are small/light, they are very high rep, just like Cathe can burn out a muscle with 5#s if she does enough reps.

You guys are so brutal! But I can take it!!!!
The DVDs arrive today from Mary. At the risk of more insults, I still plan on giving them a review from the standpoint of a mostly cathe workout junkie.
I just did Michelle Dozois BodyFit 360 which is quite similar in style although looks better cued and paced. The moves are done slowly a few times before she picks up the tempo. Killer workout!

Beth:

so sorry! Didn't mean my comments to be critical of you in any way. Sometimes I put my foot in it royally...... I mean, I think what I think, but the comments are in no way meant as a reflection upon you at all. Forgive me?

Beth, I love that Body Fit workout! It was what I replaced Dream Body with and I really liked it. It's not as hard, though.

I actually thought all your comments were quite funny! I'm just hoping the workouts aren't like your comments!!!!! They arrived today and I'll start previewing them tomorrow!

I feel the same way. I have a couple of the DB workouts from the first set and decided to buy the entire second set. Honestly, these are some of the best workouts I have. You can be in great shape from doing Cathe workouts and then be pushed physically by the DB workouts because they work your muscles differently. The cardio is tough.

I have to agree on the power of 1-3 lbs weights. Sylwia uses them in her Tonique workouts and DB uses them to great effect. Tonique arm movements are slower, but still create a nice burn. I like lifting moderate to heavy weights, but I have found that these really high rep/fast movement/light weight workouts have really helped to change the shape of my arms in a good way.

That said, even though I love these workouts, I can not figure out why they need to be so frantic. They could slow the pace down just a couple of notches and not talk a mile a minute and the workouts would still be great. I can't believe they didn't get feedback from the first set about the rushed/frantic feel to their workouts. I can totally understand why people would be completely turned off just from the clips alone. Sometimes I'm a half-step behind them because I take it down a notch and that's just fine with me.

ETA: BodyFit 360 is a great, fun workout, too!

I have both sets. They are 100/different from cathe. Each set has some winners and a few duds. I like then but agree they are frantic. I do what I can and then modify or swap on my own moves for things I just can't do or don't like. You will be a puddle of swear with these. Glad I have them.

Hi poachedsalmon. I'm considering buying BodyFit 360. Can I ask you a few questions about it?

Are there are lot of lunges, pivots or moves that might tweak sensitive knees in the workout?

Did it make you feel like you worked out *hard*, or is it more of a "light" workout for days when you don't feel like exercising? I'm less concerned about feeling good after the workout, and more about feeling exhausted, haha.

How similar is Body Fit to Dream Body? In what ways it is similar or different?

Thanks very much for your input!
