Phyllis, I have the first StudioMixx workout which was available via download. It is similar to Dream Body, but it's honestly not as innovative or as fun. The moves just are not that interesting. But, that being said, it is a solid intermediate workout and the instructor is not as frantic. It has three solid sections and uses minimal equipment. It has standing work, barre work, mat work and floor work, so it's well rounded. I am also thinking about her full set, but I need to see some clips.
Just looked at extensive clips for the new series on totalfitnessdvds.com.
No way. Frantic is the word for these! Not just frantic movement, requiring very light weights indeed, but frantic speech. They are out of breath from talking so damn much and so damn fast with these itty, bitty, super childish, feminine, little voices. Can't stand it. No way on earth I'd get these......
Plus the false promise in the blurb annoys me: "these workouts will make you look 20 years old again." What crap. Cathe could make me into the most agile, most fit, strongest version of my best 48 year old self, but even she could not make me look 20 again!
Clare
Clare, you made me look ...
...and my face is still in that absurd contortion of disbelief. Watching the clip was silly enough and by the 2 minute mark I was thinking that is the most disorganized, anxiety producing cluster (you fill in the word) workout I've seen in a long time. I can't follow the people in the video because they all seem to be doing something a little off or faster or slower or different and I can't follow the voice or is cuing a better word, and the moves are ridiculous. All these tiny compounded moves done hyper fast with toothpick weights are confusing, what the hell is it you are really concentrating on? This would lead to frustration for me and to be brutally honest, you couldn't pay me to waste my time or money doing something like this. I x'd out of the clip at the 5 minute mark.
You guys are so brutal! But I can take it!!!!
The DVDs arrive today from Mary. At the risk of more insults, I still plan on giving them a review from the standpoint of a mostly cathe workout junkie.
I just did Michelle Dozois BodyFit 360 which is quite similar in style although looks better cued and paced. The moves are done slowly a few times before she picks up the tempo. Killer workout!

I certainly cannot think of a Cathe workout that compares to these, but I don't think that's a bad thing on either side. Thank goodness there are a variety of workouts available as there are always new ways to challenge oneself. After working out with Cathe for years and thinking I was in good shape because I can do her workouts without modifications, these DB workouts slayed me. They are tough and work the body in different ways for sure. However, their delivery leaves a lot to be desired.
Those weights definitely add up to some serious burning in the muscles, even though they are small/light, they are very high rep, just like Cathe can burn out a muscle with 5#s if she does enough reps.
ETA: BodyFit 360 is a great, fun workout, too!
