Does anyone else NEED snow for Christmas?

I have talked about this on the personal training forum, but seriously, I "need" snow in order to have a wonderful Christmas, in a way. It adds some sort of magic for me. I was so excited - forecast was, until today, showing snow FINALLY for the first time in 4-5 years on Christmas Eve/Day. Now they are saying it will be 40s and rain. I am very disappointed. I really want the snow for my kids so when they look outside, it is sparkling and magical in the morning. Does this make sense to anyone?

Christmas in NE Ohio just isn't the same without the snow.

Other than that, I really can take it or leave it. I am a summer girl and do not like being cold in any way.

I'm with you!

We moved to the desert about 2 years ago, and we didn't even put up a tree since we got here! It just isn't the same as when we lived in Alaska or Washington state! And while for any other day, I actually HATE driving in the snow, I am finding it very hard to get into the Christmas spirit! We even got a few inches of snow this week (Southern Nevada) but it's just not the same! ho hum!

Florida weather is so weird. It's supposed to be 29 degrees tonight but will be in the mid 70's on Christmas day which I HATE!!! I NEED cold!!!!

MI has plenty of snow and you are more than welcome to it. A friend of mine has a neighbor who has offered to do her driveway for more snow. He and his friends are building a snow board ramp so he is shoveling a lot of extra driveways.

You can have some of the snow we've been getting for 2 days!

Yup - over 48 hours straight snow - nonstop. Almost 2 feet here in Mass. I'm SICK OF IT! Just tried to go out and run an errand and the roads are practically impassable - very dangerous. I'll take the warmth and the sun any day (at least that's how I feel today!)

I'm a White Christmas kinda gal too...but this is getting to be ridiculous! Luckily, we haven't had any new snow today but the wind is awful (20-35 mph) and it's about -3 F outside right now. So...getting a little cabin fever...but OH so festive :D

Snow

You are more than welcome to have the snow here in West Michigan! We now have a "Blizzard Warning"...... another 9 inches today; lots of freeways were closed; zero visibility! I'm sick of it! I'm ready for spring and to ride bike/ride horse....anything but to be stuck inside! lol

Yup, take ours in southeast Michigan, too! My husband is operations manager for a landscape company and in Michigan that means you do snow. He's been gone for 24 hours at a time several times already this year and today is only the first day of winter! That messes with the whole family's schedule-try keeping 3 kids quiet during the day! And he gets so sick of the snow, he doesn't take the kids out to play in it, either. And his phone never stops ringing! So I'm now a cranky snow widow:(

My kids would like some!

It was in the 70 here in Georgia (until today), so my children would greatly appreciate some snow for Christmas! I grew up in New England, and while I'm happy to see snow on Christmas, I'm happier to see it go away immediately after!

Ah, the memories of cleaning the snow off my car, finding a layer of ice under the snow on my windshield, finding the lock frozen too ... shoveling, slipping, sliding ...

Winter was only fun when we were kids. After that, the party was over for me!

Sure, send some our way ... for one day only!

Take all the MN snow, cold, and wind...Please!

I live in North Central Minnesota and you can have all the snow we've gotten and for a bonus, I'll send you the sub-zero temps :)

I adore the snow and now that we moved from Salt Lake to Vegas, Christmas hasn't been the same for me at all. I love the cold, the heat makes me cranky.

LOL! Vegas is definately NOT the place for those who don't like heat at least in the summer! are you still here?

Another Michigander here willing to share snow! We've got plenty and it's going to stay pretty cold till Christmas, so we need NO MORE snow. I like a white Christmas and then can happily do without any more. But, this December has been crazy and we've had as much snow as we get sometimes all winter. Reminds me of December of 2000 when I was pregnant with my second. I was feeling really lousy with a two year old to watch all day and DH would come home at night to a sink full of dishes and a driveway full of snow!

My parents are in K'zoo so not as bad as being along Lake Michigan, but they get a lot more snow than we do from the lake affect.

Snow is a requirement for Christmas. Its about -3 today in Chicagoland, so I think what we have will be sticking around. However, for it to actually snow on Christmas Eve or Christmas day is bad bad bad!!!! DH has to snowplow in the winter at work, so for him to be gone would be bad. So far, we've made it 10 yrs and our luck has held out. Hoping it does this year, too. They are saying snow Tues night into Weds morn, but it looks like he'll be home. Hopefully the snow doesn't get pushed back. DS would love to be out playing in the snow, but it was way too cold today. He was out yesterday for a while, it was in the uppe 20s, but most of it was covered in ice from the ice storm we got. Last night was big big big wind so now I have sticks and leaves and such mucking up all the pretty whiteness. Not sure what's up with the weather this year, we're getting January in December!

Who's issues

Hi Clarissa,

I just wonder...who's issue is it...your kids for wanting the snow or you for WANTING to see the kids faces light up on a particular morning? That will be your answer. Kids will realize what is Christmas with or without the snow. It seems like there are some expectations on your part about what Christmas "should" look like.

Thoughts???

Yes it is my expectation. I just get grumpy when all I look out and see is sticks and frozen ugly mud in my yard. That's just me. Snow cleans everything up and makes it sparkly.

I grew up in the south and have NEVER had snow for Christmas. My whole family used to joke about wondering what a "white Christmas" was supposed to mean. I think 70 degrees is perfect Christmas weather ;)

Naw,Christmas is everyone being together and a peaceful day - snow brings accidents, falls,(albeit as a kid it would be fun for an hour or so).....we left the NE 9 years ago, and on sunny Christmas mornings enjoy walking Colonial Williamsburg and the brisk outdoors...no missing snow here at ALL....
