Dizzy during workout...

O.K. I need some advice or input from my frineds in fitness on this one. Last Sunday I woke up with a terrible sinus headache and the beginnings of a head cold. It progressed just as I thought it would and left me pretty stuffy and without much energy to workout. I am 100% better today (Saturday) and I have not had to take any cold medicine since Thursday. So, I decided to workout today for the first time in a week. I made it through about 10 min. of CTX step and Intervals and became dizzy and kind of queasy. In the past once I'm over a cold or whatever I've been able to jump right back in w/o any problems. This is strange. A week ago I was tackling IMAX 2 and my other longer Cathe workouts w/o missing a beat. Has this happened to anyone else out there? I guess I'm going to have ease back into my normal workout routine.
Thanks for the help.

I am going to venture and say that maybe some of your cold got into your ears and settled there. And even though they may not hurt, it could still throw off you equilibrium and cause dizziness and a queasy type feeling. With all the motion of stepping it could be aggravating the ears thus causing the symptoms you describe. Make sure you are showing no signs of a cold head or otherwise, clean out your ears good, and if it persist see a doctor. And remember to not exercise if the cold happens to return and settle in your chest:) .

There is my non medical professional, mother of 3 boys $0.02 worth!!:7

Hope it helps some:)

You could have an inner ear infection, which sometimes is preceeded by a sinus headache. It usually is associated with dizziness and sometimes nausea. If it doesn't clear up, see your doctor. They can give you antibiotics which usually clears it right up. You might also have a sinus infection, and those can sometimes make people dizzy. Again, antibiotics should clear it up. Either way, if you become dizzy while working out, even without having had a cold beforehand, I would still consider seeing a doctor, especially if this doesn't normally happen to you. It could be anything, even you just being extra tired that day, but if it keeps happening, I'd find out why. Hope this helps!

Jessi:

I would hazard a guess that the cold took more of a toll on the body's reserves than you thought. I am sure you will be fine, just do as you suggested, ease back gently, no matter how many marathons you ran the week before you got sick! Baby your body for a week, take rests in between sets, stop to sip water even when Cathe doesn't and listen to that dizziness, it's a sign of over-exertion.

I had a cold 2 weeks ago, real bad one, and about 8 days later when I worked out again, I felt terrible, very drained, not my usual energy levels, and yes, dizzy, anmd I just took it real sloooooooow. Now I am feeling great again.

And also, I probably wouldn't have chosen to start off again with Step & Intervals, I think it's a pretty intense tape even when very healthy. I really think you are going to be fine: just choose a gentler tape to begin with. Try the first 2 section of Rythmic Step and then stretch and cool down, call it a day, do more the next day. Sleep lots and eat high nutrition food. Fish, veggies, yoghurt, fruit, vitamin-laced smoothies....
