Didn't See it Coming...

Laurie- have you heard TIm McGraw's "Don't Take the Girl"? That one really choked me up at work when I first heard it. It also turned me on to country music. I love "These Sticks & Stones" by Tracy Lawrence and "I Just Wanted You to Know" by Mark Chestnut. The first one is about divorce, the second about a guy wondering about his old love & what she up to now. Very, very sad. I am a sucker for this stuff.

"Go Rest High on That Mountain" Vince Gill I heard this song for the first time on the way home from the airport after attending my brother's funeral. He was killed rock climbing at the tender age of 24. I have this awesome picture of him standing on top of a rock with the sunset behind him. I cried my heart out when I heard this song. I am crying now!!!! " Go rest high on that mountain, cause your work on earth is done, go to heaven ashoutin' love for the father and the Son"

Hopefull

((((Hopefull)))) That is so sad, I'm sorry for your loss. These songs are such a great release of emotional pressure. It's lovely that you have such a powerful picture of your brother to comfort you.

Marla, I'm going to get some tissues and check out some of these song lyrics.

Thanks everyone for sharing your stories.

Take Care
Laurie:)

I always liked "I Hope You Dance" by Leann Womack, but after I saw the music video (young daughter with mom) that was it for me. Now that I listen to it as a parent to child song it really gets me choked up ... every single time.

Also, I like "Lady in Red" because it's so passionate.

I am a singer and just recently I recorded a spanish ballad ( bolero) entitled "La Puerta" also recorded lately by Luis Miguel....well, my father passed away last year. He was a singer/musician and used to perform this song. Needless to say, I was a weepy mess in the studio.

Another song that had a grip of me just recently is the Burt Bacarach song "The windows of the world". dmd;(

Hopefull...very nice of you to share...and very sorry for your loss. I know there are songs that remind me of my Dad who died 7 years ago. Now that I have read thru this thread I will always remember "Light my Fire" by the Doors. Reminds me of camping in the area that I live now, which was a huge dream of my Fathers to have all his girls and of course He and my Mom living in Northern Cal. He did get his wish....:+

I graduated from HS in 1977.....Chicago is still a favorite and always will be.

Laurie....not sure what happened to Taylor Dayne. I have 2 of her CD's and listened to one today..:)...Carole

I don't know the name of it (or who performed it) but the chorus is "If you get there before I do, Don't give up on me, I'll be there when my chores are through..."

It's a grandfather telling his grandson about when he eloped with the boys grandmother. They were to meet at a tree but when he got there, she had left a note that said "if you get there...." Then they go to the grandmothers funeral and the boy hears his grandfather whisper the same words while standing at the casket. God I want to cry now!

It is much more touching when you hear the song. It makes me think of my grandparents who were married 62 years when my grandfather passed.

I like " I can only Imagine " and then I love Josh Grobun music! always pulls at my heartstings with his music. I also love "In my daughters eyes" by Martina McBride.

Okay, just reading the title of Time McGraw's "Don't Take the Girl" made me start crying. So, obviously that is one of my choices.

Josh Grobun has an amazing voice! He could sing anything and his voice would still bring tears to my eyes.

I know what you mean!

When I hear this song I cry so hard. I just about had to pull over when I first heard this one driving in my car. It's about a little boy who is dying and his father is praying for God to help him and asking if he could take his place. This song was really written about a boy Mark Schultz knew who was terminally ill. He was friends with the family. The boy is actually okay in in remission and is a teenager now.

Mark Schultz - He's My Son

Lyrics:
I'm down on my knees again tonight
I'm hoping this prayer will turn out right
See there is a boy that needs your help
I've done all that i can do myself
His mother is tired
I'm sure you can understand
Each night as he sleeps
She goes in to hold his hand
And she tries not to cry
As the tears fill up her eyes

Chorus~
Can you hear me?
Am I getting through tonight?
Can you see him?
Can you make him feel all right?
If you can hear me
Let me take his place somehow
See he's not just anyone
He's my son

Sometimes late at night I watch him sleep
I dream of the boy he'd like to be
I try to be strong and see him through
But God who he needs right now is You
Let him grow old
Live life without this fear
What would I be
Living without him here
He's so tired and he's scared
Let him know that You're there

Chorus

Can you hear me?
Am I getting through tonight?
Can you see him?
Can you make him feel all right?
If you can hear me
Let me take his place somehow
See he's not just anyone
He's my son

Can you hear me?
Can you see him?
Please don't leave him
He's my son

Don McLean's Vincent always chokes me up because my late father loved that song, also The Living Years came out when my dad died, so I can't listen to it without crying... I was kind of annoyed that Cathe included that one in the BB series!!!

There's a new one out, actually it's been out for awhile, can't think of who sings it, or the title even, but it has the line "you've only got 100 years to live" Maybe someone can help me here! Anyway, every time I hear it I think of my kids and how fast they're growing up. Very bittersweet!

:-(

"Tears in Heaven" gets me every time too.

My sister used to love "Love is Blue" (no idea who did it) when she was about 5 or 6. She surprised my dad at her wedding in 1987 by playing it for the father-of-the-bride dance. He lost it and I did too.

It's amazing how music can instantly conjure up memories and intense emotions.

"Hungry Eyes" by Eric Carmen used to set me off every time I heard it because it reminded me of my first love. It was "our song" because he sang it to me once.

Also, and I know this sounds crazy, but "Silent Lucidity" by Queensryche gives me goosebumps and brings up an amazing amount of emotion in me...especially where they build and build and build up the song and then the woman whispers "help me" before they break back into the chorus. Just thinking about it gives me goosebumps.

Catwoman....another Queensryche fan here...:)...I love Silent Lucidity...and a few others....one about rain that I can't remember the name of right now.....:)...Carole
