did you vote already?

Just got back.

I waited 1 hour and 45 minutes to vote today. Thank goodness the weather is beautiful because I was outside most of the time!

I voted early, last week!!!! :)

Dani..it's great to see you posting :) Luke has gotten so big and he's so gorgeous :) I peeked at your baby blog!

About voting..I know I'll sound dorky but I was so excited about today that I woke up like every half hour last night. DH and I went in this morning and were fortunate enough to be in a precinct that did not have a long wait..about 2 minutes. The other precinct at our polling location had over an hour wait. I could tell that some folks were not too happy watching us walk in and out so quickly and they were still standing in the same spot.

It's an exciting, historic day :)

I voted this morning (at a large church) before coming into work. A lady in line said that the line went clear around the church at 5:30 am this morning. She went home and came back at 7:30 am. :)

I voted at our local community center. I got there at 6:15 this morning and waited about 15 minutes. I can't wait to watch the election coverage tonight.

The state I live in does not have early voting. You get your buns to the polling place on Election Day. To me, there is something about casting your vote in person that make is more important....and offers less opportunity for screw ups (like having the vote get lost in the mail...). So, I got my buns to the polling place bright and early...and it was in a church and I didn't even get hit with a lightning bolt when I entered the building :p

Yes I Did!

7:30 a.m. this morning. No lines. Very emotional for me. Will not say who I voted for but I did cry over the historic nature of it (that might give it away - no wait, there are many "firsts" on both ballots so my secret is safe). How could you not?? Also because it is the first presidental election I have gone through without my Mom and Dad (Mom passed in 2005, Dad in July). They were such patriots, volunteered in every election, fought for civil rights, women's rights, workers right, you name it. They loved their country, and always took us kids with them to vote. My bi-racial nephews are also both voting for the first time; so great for them to see that one of their choices looks like them (my 19 yr old nephew looks a lot like Obama, he could have made serious money off that Joe the Plumber style!.

So I cried - in the booth, in the car, red, white, blue and wimpy proud. That is me.

Anyone else having an Election Party? Granted, our party has a total of 3 people attending (with 2 who can't vote), but what the hell. We have popcorn, cookies, Halloween candy, and an electoral map.

Julie, that's so sweet! Dani, that baby of yours is gorgeous!

I was a bit unnerved this morning. DH and I went to the grammar school where we having been voting (in every possible election and primary) for years. For the first time today, our names were not listed in the voting book! We were given affidavits and paper ballots to fill out, and had to try to find a place to sit down and write in a packed school gymnasium. All the tables were sticky from the baked goods everyone was eating, and my ballot was sticky and covered with crumbs. I was worried that my vote wouldn't count, so I watched until the voting officer signed my papers and put them into the box. There were other people filling out paper ballots too because one of the voting booth levers broke! And it was only 9:30 am. Man, I think they'll be counting those paper ballots all night long.

In any event, I'm glad we went at 9:30, because I can just imagine what the lines must have been like between 7 am and 9 am. The gym was packed, but at least there were no lines out the door. It really was a weird experience.

Just did.

Then I went to the drugstore and bought some peanut butter chocolate squares and they were aweful. Does this mean Cathe is having a good influence on my taste buds?

Julie..your not wimpy ;)
It must have been such a bittersweet morning for you and I'm sure your mom and dad were there with you. :)

I admit that I became a little teary this morning watching Good Morning America as they were showing coverage of Obama filling out his ballot with Michelle and their two girls. Such a bittersweet moment for him I'm sure. It's so sad that he lost his grandmother yesterday :(

Yes, I did! I took off work today because the kids are out of school. We all walked up to the polling place (in a local church basement) and the kids got to see what goes into voting. It was a good learning experience for them. We now have an electoral "score card" to mark when the state results come in. We didn't have to wait very long. There was one broken machine (I live just outside of Cleveland, Ohio the home of voting maching controversy!!) so the wait was about 30 minutes until they fixed the third machine. All in all, a good in person voting experience and the kids got stickers. What could be better??

DH and I voted this morning around 10. My town is pretty small so no lines at all. I had a book and a coffee with me just in case!

:D

Julie - I'm glad I'm not the only one. I had to bite my tongue to not cry. I waited 1 hour 15 minutes. When I got there, there was a family of three generations - grandma, mom and kids. The mom said her husband went first thing in the morning and she waited so she could bring the kids so they could experience it. When they came out, the kids had their picture taken next to the flag and the Vote Here sign with the date on it. I'm getting teary again thinking about what an amazing moment this is for those kids and all the other families like them. It felt so good to push that button. I'm going to be exhausted tomorrow because I'm staying up until they call it!!

I live in a mid-size suburban town and all precincts vote at the high school gym. DX lives on the same street and at 7:30 this morning when I dropped off DD there were folks lined up the street just to get in the parking lot. Then at 11:45 I dropped off DS and walked over - in and out in less than 10 minutes. But still a long line of cars..... glad I could walk!

I voted early last week. My DH and I took our little boys, as we always do. They were SO proud to watch us vote. I too have been SO excited about this election. We've had record numbers of people early voting here. I am SO happy to see everyone taking their civic duty so seriously and in some cases waiting in line for hours. It makes me proud. I'm hoping that the results will make me equally as proud. :) I'll be staying up late no matter what (with a newborn and all), but my eyes will be glued to the TV until the new president is announced. SOOOOO exciting!!!

I voted right after work, which was at 2 p.m. I just got home. :) I walked in, voted, and walked out. No line, no nothing.

Julie

not at all wimpy. my great grandfather came here from germany with nothing worked his ass off raising 9 kids b/c he refused to have a family in a place where choices were not of their own! my grandfather proudly served in WW2(along with 4 of his brothers, the younger boy served in korean war), my mom's boyfriend in vietnam,my cousin has already been to iraq 5 times. so its a slap in the face to my family to NOT vote after they worked so hard to reserve that right and starting with my great grandfather who wanted change and a better life for his bloodline. they wouldn't have cared if i wrote in mickey mouse as long as took an stance on the issues that were important to me and i believed i picked the right man to help with those issues. as well as respect the RIGHTS of others to choose who they believe were the best for the job.

god bless the USA man, at least we get to pick our leaders.

Yup, voted around 10 am -- very little waiting for me!

It is making me very emotional too. I started crying while talking to my DS (3 1/2) this morning about why this election is so historic and how the country is about to change. I took him with me to vote, then cried a bit more in the car.

It just feels so HUGE to me, like something awesome is about to happen.

I did!!! Took my 5yo who is home sick w/ a cold w/ me. She was so excited to help me fill in the circles. ;) She got to vote at school y'day and came home all excited about it. We voted at a local church and there was no line, but I live in a small town!! :p I would have been out in about 5 minutes, but found a few neighbors to chat with.

Oh, and she told me that we had to wear red, white, & blue so we did. And we are wearing our I voted stickers now.
