Damage Control November-Kick it into High Gear!

Hi all,

Diana, I feel your pain. I have been on crutches twice and it's so hard to carry anything! Like you, I focused on upper body at that time. I would have my step set up and then have DH move all my weights around for easier pick up and do upper body weights. Can you do one arm rows-bending your leg onto the step? I could since my pain was all in my ankle. It's kind of scary to hear about a torn quad-just one more thing that could go wrong in the body that we're trying so hard to keep moving! At least there are lots of upper body exercises you can do. I remember doing PUB a lot and still love that routine. Also, Supersets with the ball...I can't wait to get back to doing upper body! I'm still resting my shoulder and just doing the rehab exercises for it. I have zero pain now anyway. I'm at my lowest body weight in a long time and it's from 1. watching what I eat and 2. doing less intense workouts which must make me eat more because I'm just not as hungry now. Diana, you'll get through it....one day at a time.

Tina, happy birthday! How sweet of your DH to take you shopping! What did you get?

LL, are you recovered from Wed?

Beth

Hi Ladies,

No workout for me. DH got me a cane and that seems to help me get around a bit. I tried using his crutches, but even at the shortest setting they are still too tall for me. I actually feel more stable with crutches. My low back is hurting from limping so much. At my ortho apt this morning I got a heavier archwire and rubberbands. I have to wear the rubberbands 24/7 for the next 2 months. Hopefully they will close the gap between my upper and lower teeth on the right side. This issue wasn't really noticeable until now. He also mentioned that one of my teeth may be fused to the bone. He said we will discuss the options at the next appointment. I'm wondering why he didn't notice this in my initial x-rays.

Beth-Way to go with your weightloss!!!!! PUB is a great option for me. My DH is anti-exercise so I'm on my own. Also, my workout area is in the basement and it's really tough getting down 2 sets of stairs. I can only do seated exercises right now. Other than the the rows, PUB will work great.

LIHI legs today, tomorrow will be RWH low impact 2 w/ abs 1. Busy day at home: school by day, working on budget and menu planning by night! Post more over the weekend!

Yesterday was another of Amy's kickboxing workouts, Body Box, which is really fun. Four combos with four tough intervals inbetween.
DH and I did CLB no blasts premix last night. I can really feel my legs this morning. This morning will be another kickboxing workout, not sure what yet. Cycling this weekend, if DH's back pain calms down. He seems to go though back pain every fall, time to move someplace warmer I think.

Diana, I'm so sorry to hear about your injury. My neighbor had knee pain and swelling from April to August. They finally did knee surgery and found she had some rare condition where they found tissue that had crystallized. They removed them and told her she should recoup in a few days. After the surgery she was in so much pain, she went to the emergency room where they found she tore her quad muscle. She thinks it may have happened during surgery. Long story short, she said the quad tear is the worst pain she has ever dealt with. I hope you bounce back quickly and you have a friend close by that can help you out. <3

Beth, thanks for the bday wishes. We went out for a family breakfast and then DH and I went on a shopping trip. Three shirts, a sweater, a pair of jeans, and a nice pair of Boc clogs later, I'm a happy camper. My mom surprised me with a painting I admired at an estate sale we went to over the summer. I still can't believe she went back and purchased it. Nice job on being at your lowest weight. Have you had to buy new clothes? How is your shoulder feeling?

LL, nice job fitting in your workouts through your grueling schedule!

I got in low impact 2 abs 1 premix.

Beth!! So excited about the weight loss for you!! Interesting how that happened. Recovered but can't slow down. I guess I'll slow down when I'm dead!

Diana-ugh, sounds tough between the ortho and crutches! I hope you can find something you do!

Hi Tina!

This morning I did RWH CTS no finishers. I could only stay at Cathe's weight for a while. Overhead press I had to do 30 instead of 35 and the barbell I had to do lower. Tomorrow will be a rest day.

Hi Ladies,

I'm going to give my next UB STS w/o a try today. At this point I'm able to put my heel down and extend my leg more. We'll see how it goes. My DH has been cooking dinner to help me out-he batters and fries everything. DS2 will be taking me grocery shopping today and helping me prepare my food for next week. I'm able to move around a bit better now so that will help.

Cathe is offering 15% off on Cathe Live and OnDemand subscriptions. I would love to sell all my dvds and just use the online version. The problem is, they don't have the premixes. I use premixes a lot. The solution is to create your own using the workout blender. The premixes will be in a future release. I will revisit the OnDemand when they incorporate the premixes. I also learned this the hard way with the downloads. The downloads don't include premixes either.

Tina-glad you had a wonderful birthday!! That's the only time I see my oldest son, for family get-togethers! How is STS going for you and DH. Meso 2 is my favorite for 2 reasons: no pushups/completing each body part before moving to the next. It makes it easy to shorten or break into shorter segments if necessary.

Beth-what are you up to this weekend.

LL-Nice job with RWH, those w/o's are no joke. While perusing bodybuilding.com I came across a 21 day rotation that looks really good. The trainer is Ashley Conrad. The workouts are 45-60 minutes, not sure if that would work for you. I like the shorter rotations as I'm able to stay focused for 21 days. http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/ashley-conrads-21-day-clutch-cut.html

Back to report I did STS disc 21-back and biceps. I tacked on Core #1 from Xtrain sans plank work. Icing my knee and drinking my protein shake before heading to the grocery store.

Thanks for the link, Diana. I'm checking it out. Not to purchase a new workout but to hear about the nutrition. I started the video and it sounds like she's trying to keep it simple: eat every 3 hrs, no gluten or dairy, drink at gallon of water a day with the juice of 2 lemons a day. I'm afraid of cutting out a food group... But to do it only for 3 weeks and then maybe loosen up for a week and then try another 3 weeks...

Hi all,

Diana, glad to hear you are able to do some upper body workouts! Also, glad you got to the grocery store for some non fried foods! When do you start physical therapy for your quad? Are you still in a brace? Do you have a lot of pain still?

LL, I checked out that link too. I really liked the food plan structure, but also adapt it to what works for me-ie. I still have a yogurt every day for snack and I still like a glass of wine with dinner. I'm finding it hard to get enough protein in general. Breakfast is the worst-only 6 grams usually. That's why I have a yogurt mid morning! I'm still logging in my diet and keeping myself at my goal weight.

This weekend I did Lower Body Blast on Saturday and a long walk with the vest on Sunday. Sat. night my left hip woke me up in pain. I don't know what's going on. I didn't use that heavy of weights for LLB. It may have been the one legged lunges where you have the back leg on the step and jump out and then lunge forever. I think I'll lower the step for that one from now on. I'm so afraid of getting hurt! DH really wants me to just go moderate-since I can't afford to lose my job and the benefits and all. I have to get out of the mindset of going all out every single day with Cathe. The walks are good because I still feel like I get a good workout, it's doing dvds that I need to learn to modify more.

Tina, it sounds like your birthday was perfect! How is the new job going? Do you have a fit bit or something that measures your steps? I have a feeling you'll be walking a lot of dogs!

Beth

RWH Plyo 2 Abs 1 this morning. All day volleyball tournament today, JTrain and CDawg's team get to the semifinals, 3rd place. J&C do not do well on the same team. JTrain kept on telling CDawg where to stand, etc...it's the coaches job. Even in the pictures they were elbowing each other...At least the picture turned out ok.

LL, is Plyo 2 the one with the step?

Yesterday I did CLB and felt great. I'm trying to ease back to upper body weights by just holding weights during lower body exercises. I did put the barbell up twice and so far my shoulder is ok. I might try kickboxing tomorrow without wearing any gloves and see how my shoulder feels after that. Baby steps....I'm generally doing a walk one day, dvd the next.

Beth

RWH LIHI chest tris shoulders no finishers this morning.

Beth, yes, the one with the step. I can't do all the burpees, I should keep track of how many I do to see if I'm can beat it the next time I do the workout, since I'm in the rotation, I'm doing each HiiT 2x in the first month. I've been likening this rotation. I see that I'm doing a low and a plyo HiiT, each LIHI every week for the first month. Just changing up the days and the last week is double HiiTs! That will be interesting! Next month adds in the circuits, but I'm really liking the Wednesday and Sunday off thing...I had a yogurt yesterday too, but I don't have them daily. But I did have a little cheese on my tacos tonight and I had some chocolate chips last night, but I didn't over do it.[emoji41]. Protein isn't that hard anymore. I usually get between 120-140.

Hi Tina and Diana!

Good news! 2 pounds down from last week, so 2 down from my 3.8 pound vacation gain! Then I'll work on the 6 that I gained since my beach vacation, I think I gained 4-5 and then gained instead of lost it because I was buying chocolate covered almonds regularly, I stopped doing that!! Now I'm aiming to take off that last 1.8 by next Monday!

Whoa, its been awhile since I checked in. Friday was KPC, cycling Sat. and Sun., RWH LIH #2 w/core #1 and STS M1D13 with DH in the evening on Monday. Yesterday was Imax 1. I'm going back to step on Tuesdays and kickboxing on Thursdays until Ice shows up. DH is going to do the next STS disc and then call it quits. He really thinks the overhead presses are making his shoulder issues worse. At least he gave it another go. He will continue to do the STS lower body discs. Beth surprised me (thank you, thank you, Beth!!) with the optional leg press workouts when she sent back the EBE discs, so I can't wait to try those during Meso 3! :)

Diana, great news on your leg pain getting better. I hope you're totally off of crutches soon, they're such a pain to use! Nice job keeping up on the upper body and core workouts! :)

Beth, I have two week long pet sitting jobs from now until the end of the month. I have a long way to go as far as setting up a business name, forms, insurance and bonding, and getting animal first aid certified. I'm still reading and taking notes. Yay for your shoulder healing up. How is your hip feeling? I tweaked mine last year and it woke me up from a dead sleep, but it recovered really quickly. I hope yours is feeling better.

LL, great job on the weight loss. Your hard work is paying off! Your body and brain must never rest!

Off to do some form of cardio this morning. Tonight will be STS back and bi's with DH.

Hi Ladies,

Yesterday was a frumpy lazy day. UGH. It's to easy to fall off the wagon if I don't work out regularly. Today I did Disc 22-CST. I peeked at the next STS leg w/o card and think most of the exercises are doable. I will simply change those I can't do, to something I can. Once I finish Meso 2 I'm going to repeat it. Although my weight is only up a couple lbs, I notice the belly pooch again. BR really eliminates that issue for me. No impact work for me for a while. I stepped on my elliptical for a few rotations and that didn't seem to bother my knee. Although not the best cardio, you gotta do what you can do.

LL-keep up the good work! The bodybuilding.com programs are all free. The only thing you would have to pay for is the supplements if you decided to purchase them. Just something to keep in mind. Due to terrible acne issues, my Dr. had me gave up dairy for almost 20yrs. Cheese was the hardest to give up, but now I don't care if I have it or not. I will now occasionally have cheese but seem to be doing okay with yogurt.

Tina-you are amazing!!! Why doesn't DH just to an alternate exercise for OH press instead of giving up? Perhaps upright rows or front lat raise? Good luck with your new business. Start small and go from there and see how you like it.

Beth-Now that I can put some weight on that leg I can start the physical therapy. Most of the exercises are in some of Cathe's w/o's. Standing Quad stretch, straight leg raise, wall slides, step ups etc. Glad to hear your shoulder is finally starting to feel better.

Hi all,

LL, that step Plyo is SO hard! No wonder you're losing weight! Glad to hear you like the rotation.

Today I did a 45 minute premix from TTM-all but the upper body with core. I went real light on the weights for the compound legs and then did my rehab exercises and am icing now. I chickened out of kickbox.

Tina, my hip is ok. I just can't do high impact every day anymore-that seems to irritate it. My shoulder is SLOWLY feeling better. My one pound weight still fatigues it though. God only knows how long this will take to heal.

Diana, are you still doing upper body? How is your diet? Are you less hungry without cardio?

Beth

Hi ladies,

Today I did disc 23-legs. I only had to change 2 of the exercises. Instead of weighted step ups I did weighted hip thrusts, and instead of 45 degree lunge I did kettlebell swings. I'm still unable to do any impact. Even the leg warm up today where you jump, well that's not happening. I may use my elliptical tomorrow and see how that goes. I also took a look at the next BR w/o and think it's doable with some modifications. I'm not going to push it though. My knee still feels very unstable. Hopefully the PT will help.

Beth-I don't think I'm less hungry, I just have more time to eat. :( That can be one of the downsides to working from home. There is always a kitchen full of food. If I only ate when I was hungry... and not bored, busy, happy, sad, etc. I probably wouldn't have a weight issue. TTM is one of my favorites, glad you found a premix that works!

bbl to see what everyone else is up to.

RWH LIHI Legs this morning, yesterday was a rest day. Tomorrow will be RWH low impact with abs.

Diana, I was looking for a price but didn't see one., that is good news, maybe I will check it out sometime. After my rotation I'll be doing ICE and then maybe I'll need a Cathe break.[emoji41]. Do you have rosacea? I do, but cheese was never something the doc said could be a trigger, spicy foods and alcohol. I don't drink, but I like spicy!

Beth, TTM is hard, but fun! And long. I'm thrilled to be doing 40 min or less workouts all the time now!

Hi Tina, you seem to be doing some amazing workouts!

We finished week one of Meso two. I also added in FT, KM, and HCUB. The walking miles are adding up with the dog sitting this week. Tomorrow will be a workout free day, but I'll be working 10+ hours on my feet. Hopefully we'll be able to get a bike ride in on Sunday.

Diana, it sounds like you're healing up really quickly. :) My neighbor is still recovering from her quad tear, so you're way ahead of schedule. I'm sure with all of your extra muscles, it helps with recovery.

Beth, I just finished a really good book on decluttering called The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo. I just heave hoed a boat load of clothes that I was holding on to for I don't know what. After I go through the rest of the family's clothes, I'll move onto books. My bureau has never looked so neat.

Hi to LL. :)

Hi Ladies,

Today was BR Day 10, with modifications of course. I used my elliptical for the cardio segments and had to modify burpee/pushup/tuck jump and a couple other jumping movements.

On the braces front, I've been wearing these rubberbands almost 24/7 as prescribed to close an open bite. It is definitely working on closing the open bite. I'm developing a gap in my front teeth. My right front tooth is moving to the right out of alignment. I called the ortho who said this is not what he wants so I now have another apt for Dec. 3rd. I've been pleased with the progress until this started happening.

LL-way to go with RWH!!! Those are some seriously tough and fast paced w/o's. So glad this rotation is working out for you! I don't have rosacea, but had a terrible time with acne after my 3rd son was born. My Dr. recommended giving up all dairy along with medication etc. I've been weaned off the oral medication (thankfully), but do have some prescription topical ointment if necessary. That is one of the reasons I've been having peels, microderms, facials and the like. It's not fun trying to treat acne scars and wrinkles. GGRRR

Tina-I so enjoy Meso 2. I'm actually going to repeat it since I've missed so much during this mesocycle. After all, consistency is key. I think I may try to get Combat back from my niece. Kickboxing should be okay for right now. I only have a partial tear, they explained it like a rope unraveling, but not completely severed. I checked out that book and have asked DS3 to get it from the library for me. I just donated 1 giant trash bag of clothes and 2 small boxes of household items.
