Crocodile Hunter Tragedy

So sad!!! What a lose... he was such a supporter of animals and environmental/conservation efforts. My husband's niece, 11, was a huge fan of his.

This is so sad and I have tears in my eyes. For those interested, Larry King is replaying an interview with him now on the east coast. Tomorrow night, they'll be interviewing his friend and manager. Many prayers to his family and all those who worked with him.

And also if you are interested, the Animal Planet has been playing the documentaries (interviews with the family and friends). Very sad, they even have footage of Bindi taling about how much she loves her dad ;( .

This is such a tragedy. I think what makes this even more heartfelt is what a good person he was as stated in many interviews with those who knew him. Jeff Corwin said that as incredible a person he was for conservation, he was an even greater husband and father. We need passionate people in this world and it's just very sad when we lose such an enthusiast.

He just appeared to be so genuine & enthusiastic. What a great loss for wildlife conservation.I especially feel hard for his young family.

As Lea stated, Animal Planet has been showing excerpts from shows and interviews with Steve and others. What a genuine person. I am just glued to the t.v. watching all about his life. On a funny note, has anyone noticed how his wife speaks with the same intonation and fervor as Steve? (Minus the accent, of course. :) ) It's interesting how we pick up other people's mannerisms, etc. I once had a friend who went to school for 4 years in Indiana and developed a bit of a twang. Well, I picked it up from talking with her. People thought I was trying to be Madonna. (Um, that last statement was just added for editorial effect. The Madonna accent thing came waaaaay after my friend was in Indiana. :7 )

Well I’m another that didn’t think too much of the man, after he took that risk with his son, and the crocodile. Everyone rightfully chastised Michael Jackson when he held his son over a balcony. I thought he should have been tossed in jail. What Steve Irwin did with his son, makes Jackson’s deal look like a walk in the park. Irwin should have had his child taken away, and tossed in jail for his stunt.

He was a Dare Devil, when you play with fire you get burned.

I do feel very sorry for his family. A senseless death that served no purpose.

Thanks Marla;)

Marla, Jeff Corwin was interviewed on one of the news shows and made the statement I was referring to. I'm not sure if you were asking me that question but I think people have the two of them straight. I still can't change the channel.

LOL Yeah Marla who are you talking to....:+

Bam, she was talking to me. I had the wrong name on my post, but changed it...

Bill, I am one that was completely mortified by what Steve did with his infant son. It was criminal in my book too!! That being said, I think he had an enthuisiasm and lust for life and nature that you just don't see too often any more. It saddens me that he died in such a freakish way.

I just read that that whole thing was caught on tape. Ugh, how long till it's on someone's blog?

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming ‘Wow - what a ride!’ — Peter Sage

It is truly sad. In fact, I woke up thinking about his untimely death this morning. I read on USAToday that only 17 people have been reported as killed by a sting ray. As others mentioned, at least he died doing something he loved.

My thoughts and prayers go to his family.

<I am one that was completely mortified by what Steve did with his infant son. It was criminal in my book too!! >

This topic was discussed yesterday on one of the TV stations. It's referred to as the "Baby Bob" affair and the Irwins were shown defending themselves after all the public uproar. While I don't necessarily agree with it, it seems they just live very differently than the majority of us. They keep crocodiles and other "wild" animals in their backyard and it's everyday stuff for them. They aren't shocked or alarmed as we would be around it so I don't think they saw the stunt as dangerous. Steve Irwin was quoted as saying he introduced his kids to their surroundings from birth, not waiting until they were injured by being surprised by a croc in the yard. It's a different lifestyle from ours.

He sometimes seemed a little nuts to me, but you have to sort of admire someone who lived his life with so much gusto and enthusiasm too.

>Bill, I am one that was completely mortified by what Steve
>did with his infant son.

Wasn't it his daughter Bindi?

>Well, not sure. I said son because his daughter is 8 and I
>think his son is 2 It only happened a couple of years ago.
>So I just assumed son??
>
I could very well be wrong!
