Circuit followed by Weights???

I know this has been asked before, but I can't find it and don't remember the responses.

What is the theory on doing a circuit workout like Cardio & Weights or Boot Camp one day, and the next day doing a weight workout like Muscle Endurance or Power Hour???

You read my mind, I was just going to ask this same question. I just finished boot camp but I'm trying to up my weight workouts and I'd really like to do Power hour tomorrow...I'm never sore the day after BC, I don't know if that makes a difference or not.
 
Count me in on this question too! However, I do, maybe, have a partial answer to it. I copied an Intensity Series Rotation off of another thread, and I believe the rotations came from Cathe. [Can other Cathe fans confirm this?] It has C & W one day and a pyramid exercize the next.

Sat: Pyramid Lower Body with the first 5 intervals of Imax 2

Mon: Pyramid Lower Body
Tues: Pyramid Upper Body
Wed: Imax 2
Thurs: off
Fri: Cardio and Weights
Sat: Pyramid Lower Body with the first 5 intervals of IMAX 2
Sun: Pyramid Upper Body


Advanced Total Body Conditioning with more focus on Muscular Endurance

Mon: Imax 2
Tues: Cardio and Weights
Wed: Muscle Endurance
Thurs: off
Friday: Circuit Max
Sat: A lower intensity cardio of your choice
Sun: Muscle Endurance
 
CurlyQ & Writer - I am glad I am not alone on this one. I can't remember the theory behind a circuit followed by weights. I know the 24 + rule between weights, is 24 hours really enough? I saw that exact same rotation earlier today while I was trying to research the answer before I posted my question.

Hopefully someone educated on this can help us out!

Now I'm curious too, what is the reasoning behind this and is that enough time for the muscles to rest. Unless your just not lifting heavy enough weights to truly fatigue the muscle? I wonder.
 
What about a circuit followed by another circuit? Yesterday I did Gauntlet and this morning I did HST. And I was planning on doing CM tomorrow. Hmmmm.....
 
I have been on the first two Intensity based rotations and the weight lifting after a circuit never bothered me. I think the reason why it works is C&W works upper body, which is followed by PLB, which works the lower body, so you don't work the same muscles twice in a row. Doing PUB after Bootcamp didn't bother me as much because the weightwork in Bootcamp is fairly light. I believe it's ok to lift on consecutive days as long as you don't work the same muscles two days in a row, so they have adequate time to recover.

I just finished my first week ever of Slow and Heavy and boy, am I sore. :)

I too have done weightlifting the day after a circuit. Even though circuit has weightlifting, I consider circuit a primarily cardio workout. I don't however do upper body the day after Cardio and Weights since there is so much upper body in cardio and weights.
 
Actually, it's "ok" to lift weights for the same muscle group, depending on your goals and your level of fitness. Some competitive athletes do this. If your goal is to build muscle, then don't lift same muscle groups on consecutive days. Lifting 2 days + in a row for the same muscle group can also lead to overtraining, if you're not trained up to that level, and you're not listening to your body's need for rest. I often train same muscles 2+ days in a row, because I want to burn fat and reduce my muscle size. The muscles can get very tired quickly, and breaks are needed in this kind of training (I return to alternating muscle groups as my breaks).

My background: I've been athletic all of my life (43 this Saturday), I am an ACE certified personal trainer and am in school for Exercise Science.
