Cinnamon & weight loss

Have any of you heard about cinnamon being beneficial for weight loss? Someone is my Pilates class asked me about it, and I said I'd heard it was good for your blood sugar, sort of like Chromium Picolinate.

She said an overweight friend of hers started to use it about 3 times a day, adding it to her food (1/2 to 1 tsp. at a time), and has lost 16 pounds in one month, making NO other changes to her diet or lifestyle.

Well, I says, "Holy Moley!" and started to use it myself 3 times a day, 1/2 tsp. added to oatmeal and yogurt and fiber one. I haven't weighed myself since I started this, but I'll keep you posted. I've been doing it for a little over a week now.

I would guess that it has something to do with more flavorful food being more satisfying and as a result you eat less. I'm not a food scientist though.

I don't eat any less, believe me! I eat the same stuff day in and day out - that's why I think I'd make a good test case.

There are certain spices that are supposed to be thermogenic (increasing the metabolism). Mostly 'hot' spices like ginger, cumin, paprika. Cinnamon might be in this group as well.

It could also have something to do with more flavorful food being more satisfying, as Kristy suggested.

Also, if it regulates blood sugar, it probably wouldn't help you if your blood sugar is normal.

According to Ann Louise Gittleman (author of The Fat Flush Plan), cinnamon is considered one of those spices that increases the metabolism. Cayanne pepper is another spice that revs up the metabolism as well.

I think I'll do a happy dance!

My nearly two week check-in - with no other changes, I'm down 2 lbs. from when I started this cinnamon kick on Mar. 13. We'll check back in next Saturday. Keep in mind, I eat the same stuff day in & day out and do about the same amount of cardio every week, so any changes should be easy to track.

Robin, LOL!

I am going to invest in both cinnamon AND cayenne pepper. I love spicy stuff so that's right up my alley.

The things you had no idea about!
