Choosing a barbell for the STS Tower

Hi, thanks for reading my post. Lots of excitement about the STS tower and I'm happy to be joining in soon. My first barbell is next. Since I'm just starting out, I was wondering if anyone could offer some tips/pointers on how to chose one -- specifically for use with the STS tower. I came across a nice 55lb entry-level set, but it's only 55 inches long and I'm afraid it might not sit right on the tower. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

The Troy set is great! I have not tried with my tower yet, but have had it for years and it is the best for the Cathe workouts...

Thanks for all of your responses. The Troy set looks nice. I've bookmarked it. :)

I hate to be an irritating newbie, but can anyone share their opinion on threaded bars vs. non-threaded? And if you have a threaded bar, do the plates need to be threaded as well?

Thank you from me too! I've been working with dumbbells all this time, and while I like them, I'd really like to start using a barbell for leg work.

I'm looking for a new bar.

Is the Troy Lite bar a single piece? I have a bar from Danskin that is two pieces that screw together and it bent in the middle when a weight fell on it recently.

The Troy Lite bar is a single piece.

I need one that folds up -- I have zero room left in my gym!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

humm maybe I should develop one!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a threaded barbell and I HATE it! It's a pain and takes too much time to load/unload. Mine is a bent bar. I got it because it was easier on my shoulders, but for deadlifts and bentover rows, I really need a straight bar, so I, too, bookmarked the Troy lite set! That's a great price!

I found a set at Sports Authority that was nice also, but it's $199. Has a few more weights than the Troy lite, but I'll have to see.

Thanks for all of your responses. The Troy set looks nice. I've bookmarked it. :)
