Hi Cheetahs :)

Carole-
Thanks fortheupdate of John, I amagine it must be comforting to have your neice encourageing him daily. :)

Do let me know about the Garmin. My DH thinks I am too obsessed about exercie. So I am careful not to spend too much time talking about such things or purchasing them. But I will enjoy the Garmin through the Cheetahs.

Today was a 5.3 mile run with a nice warm up and cool down. I did get a stitch in my side and it was odd, because we ran a flat course canal side today. I was a bit sore in my glutes and hams probably from doing legs Monday and an at home spinning interval session yesterday (in place of the elliptical.) hte stretch felt good at the end) :7

GTG no detailed personals...

Barb- good luck this weekend and stay calm amiga!

Good morning cheetahs! I've been MIA a few days. I celebrated the labor day weekend by laboring:) It has been quite busy and stressful. A large part of my job is responding to all hospital emergencies, in the ICUs and everywhere else except ER. It seemed like there was no end to them them Monday! Those nights drain every bit of energy I have (and I have alot!) Okay enough unloading on y'all! I'm taking it easy this week on cardio because I'm between races. I did a 10k last Saturday and this Saturday is a Half Marathon. Yes, I am insane:) However I will kick it up a notch today with my favorite- IMAX3! And some corework, not sure what yet.
Later I'll put in some time on the stationary cycle.

Carole- Your news about John is certainly encouraging. I'm really glad to hear he is getting in sessions with a psychologist! That is so important. The mental struggle is harder in many ways than the physical one! So, your playing with your new toy today! We'll all want to hear about it of course!

Cathy- I thought that was cute about your comment that you felt you were cheating on Cathe! I get that also and can never do "other" workouts for long before coming back to my ultimate workout guru!
I am so dying for these new workouts! I preordered the first day and never cancelled, I got next day delivery too because I've always been so jealous of you east coast Catheites getting your DVDs so quickly!

Hi Barb! Only a few days to go before the EVENT!!! You'll have to post some pics for us after all this! Have a great 5 miler today!

Wendy- Have you targeted a new 5k yet? Have a fun time with your class tonight!

Jess- I love running when the temps get cooler. That's when I run my best. In fact, when I ran my fastest Hm (1:49) the starting temp was 38 deg! I couldn't even feel my feet for the first 3 miles
The situation in the SNF with your Granny and Aunt sounds ideal and will make her last days so much easier! It must mean the world to her when you and your cute little ones visit.

Hi Adri- Sorry the weather is not cooperating for you again, very frustrating I know! Sounds like you are definitely ready to make a good impression your first day at school! I don't remember having so much pressure on your appearance when I was in school but that was a LOOOOOng time ago!!!!

Hi to all who follow....have a great one!

ShellyC

Good morning, cheetahs!

Feeling much better today and I may even attempt a light workout tomorrow so it won't be such a shock to do a 5-miler on Saturday. I still don't want to overdo it since it's so close to my half, but at the same time I'm restless!

Jennifer

H Judy- we were posting the same time! I just wanted to say I am so with you about being careful with your DH. This is the only place where I can feel free to babble happily as much as I want about my love for running and exercise in general! This is like a support group! I think Jennifer introduced herself last week or so with "Hi my name is ---- and I'm addicted to running! How true!
I also carefully ration my purchase of new DVDs, equipment, etc. But so far I haven't had to hide them when they arrive!

Great Job on your run today! I rarely get stitches, usually it's an eating issue when it happens.

ShellyC

Morning ladies. Preschool went well yesterday. She was a little scared at first, but ended up loving it. In fact, when I went to pick her up she didn't want to go home. She was excited to go again today. I thought about her all day yesterday. She's getting so big so fast. It seems like I just had her yesterday.

My back was not happy by the end of the day yesterday, but it feels really good this morning. I think it's getting a little better everyday, but I still don't feel quite comfortable enough yet to begin working out. I'm shooting for Monday. I'd better start working out again soon or I'm going to blow up like a balloon! :7

Thanks for all your well wishes!

Katie

Carole,

Let us know how you like the Garmin!!!!

My job has been a series of bleeps, blunders and misunderstandings but they all end by making ME look like an idiot and making ME look like the one who's to blame when I have done NOTHING wrong and in fact it's all management's fault! I never knew a silly p/t job that pays dirt could be so stressful! I was in tears this morning because I was sooo frustrated and felt bad for something I didn't even do! ACK! I almost quit but I stopped myself. I am giving it one more chance. If they mess w/me again, I am outta there. It'll be ashame though cause the job really is perfect for me!

Glad to hear that John is making progress! I will continue to pull for him! :)

Quick hello to all to let everyone know that I arrived safely in rainy North Carolina. The rain is supposed to stop today, and the rest of the week is supposed to be gorgeous. We'll see. A lot of work ahead of me! The house is really nice (dad had it renovated), but there are boxes everywhere!

Carole - glad to hear about John!!

Thanks everyone for the well wishes. I would love to post more, but I simply do not have time today, sorry!

ShellyC: I am thinking of doing a 5k on saturday the 23rd of this month and in fact, Cathy (seekinguns)may do it with me!:D I am also going to ask the girl from my running class if she is interested. I know there are 2 races that my running class friend is looking at and I may join her for those as well depending on when they are. I'll be a racin' fool soon! LOL }(

Hi guys! I'm running behind this morning. Gotta do PLB and 90 minutes on the elliptical but had to run some errands first.

Shelly, Since I saw that you are around today I just wanted to make sure I congratulate you on winning your age group last weekend! I somehow missed your post about it but saw where Christine mentioned it! So anyway, a belated congrats to you and a big WAY TO GO!!! You are so awesome.....I hope to be close to the shape you are in when I am your age!

Hi Again cheetahs,

The time to post all the personals I want to post is not emerging in my day. I should have spent a little more time at the butt crack of dawn saying my hellos ....but I had a good workout: SJP legs, the first combo from SB (just to cheer me up) BC abs and then a 4 mile, not 5 mile run so I could get my kids to school....

Thanks to all of you for support about the parties/event this weekend. We are in the taper phase and I am trying to keep myself calm. I'm cooking now: roasting endless amounts of peppers which is therapeutic. We're as ready as we're going to be. I keep thinking about each thing that stresses me out as a part of a run, a hill or something , and just thinking breathe through it or if necessary, do what Sarah says and make it my B%#tch!

Wendy-- don't sweat your job...if it works great, if it doesn't being paid to be in a toxic environment isn't a great deal! They should be training you, not blaming you.

Jess-sending prayers for your Grandma. good for you to treasure the time.

Carole -- good news overall about John. Glad your sister can get some additional support from family and that you are such a supportive bunch. Thanks for the info on legs. It is really helpful for me to do work legs, then run.

Have a great few days. Shelly -- I'll try to post pictures if I can figure out how to upload them.

Adri--have a good first day of school. Baby Phat is quite the snazzy line of clothes! You are lucky. My son in 8th grade had a great first day yesterday. Hope yours is good too. Do you know yet if you classes with any of your buddies?

Christine--have a good trip and enjoy being with family.

Judy -- how was the meet for DD Monday or Tuesday? I hope she feels good about it. Glad your hip is doing well! The swim practice #1 for my younger DS yesterday was a zoo in the water because of the new larger group. But for my older DS it was great, really well run and he is very excited to be part of the new group. I'm still working on all the driving logistics...because of new pool locations.

Elaine--keep having awesome runs.

Laura -- I agree with Elaine, you can do it, but just do it to finish and be proud of your efforts, don't necessarily pressure yourself to beat your time (unless you feel up to it) and stay focused on continuing to rebuild after an extended down period.

Postive vibes, thoughts, and more to all my Cheetah buddies! Katie, Natalie, Mattea, Cathy, Pamela, Dina, and everyone else !

-Barb
:) :) :)

Barb: I love your outlook on the stressful parts of getting ready for the parties! That's awesome!:7 I hope everything goes well this weekend!!!!
TRAINING!? Now that's funny! :7 I got NOTHING! I got thrown in there and left to flounder. The gals I work with are helping me along but the manager has done NOTHING. She is utterly useless! ACK! Thank goodness the ladies I work with are so nice or I wouldn't last the week!}(

Barb- I start tomorrow. Not sure what classes yet, I just know my teachers from the school supply list. I lOVE Baby Phat clothes. They're so sekcy;-)

Christine- Have a wonderful trip cheetah;-)

Wendy- I think ppl now adays are full of crap when it comes to jobs. They know nuttin. Just do what you think is best girl;-)

Judy- How was the swim meet? I'm curious too. I bet she won cuz her mothers a cheetah!!! Shes fast;-)

Elaine- your doin great!!! Keep it up:)

Jess- You are in my prayers. I'm so sorry about the new. Thats soo sad;(

Carol- You are also in my prayers too. Glad everything is smooth right now:)

Hi to everyone I didn't mention. Have a great day Cheetahs!!

Hello everyone!

No time for personals right now,but will be back later. I am off to run a 7miler on the treadmill and then have a full day of errands. I hope everyone has a great day!

Susan

Susan--have a great run. That's a long way to do on a treadmill. I ran errands this morning, but forgot a receipt I needed for a return. So annoying!

Wendy-- glad some of the ladies are nice.. Think of the manager as that strange skunk smell you notice on an outdoor run and just try to get past it as quickly as possible without letting it stink up your whole run.

My DH and older DS made an Imovie & I-DVD of DS's baby photos & current photos, all set to music my DS picked and sprinkled with film clips of real movies that are really hilarious. For example: they play the clip in Austin Powers where they shout "Bring in the Clone" and show mini-me standing there and then the home movie switches to my older DS and younger DS jumping up and down in a crib maniacally.....

-Barb
:) :) :)

Busy Cheetahs here today! It's good to see so many posts! I just finished PLB (standing only) & did the Stability abs from PUB. Love those pikes! :p Then showered yet again since I was all sweaty & am enjoying the peace & quiet til my dd's get home from school! ;-)

I decided to go ahead & go visit my Grandma/ Aunt Meg tomorrow. Nothing on the agenda & with the holiday hours this week (cause of Labor Day) my dh is off work early so just in case I don't make it back in time he'll be here when the girls get home from school. I called my Mom & she said it would be great. She has to work but will come visit at lunchtime. So...I'll do my 5AM 5 mile run, then get ready like usual, get the girls off on the bus & then Allison & I can take off. I'll pack plenty of stuff to keep her busy at the nursing home, but she's pretty easily entertained anyway! (she's usually the entertainment!) So if you don't see me around tomorrow you'll know why!

OK, hope you're all enjoying your afternoon!

Hugs,

That just cracked me up, Barb!! Strange skunk smell.... too funny because the other morning we smelled a strong skunk smell & were just hoping my dog didn't find it!! ;-)

And that DVD sounds sooooo hilarious!! I'm sure they had fun making it too!!! It will be a fabulous party!!

Hugs,

Hello ladies,
Well, I finally have a breather to sit down and chat:)

I ran 7 miles today on my treadmill and I did in in 58 minutes which is pretty good for me. I would not have gotten through it without my darling John Mayer CD.

Cathy, I have the SLim and Lean, but have not tried it yet. I do that, I buy something new and it takes me forever to do it, unless it is Cathe, then I rip it open}(

Barb, hope you enjoyed your 5 miler today.

Wendy, I am so sorry you have had a hard time at your job, I know how excited you were. If you have any more problems and you are not treated well, I say adios to them.

Jess, what exactly is a tempo run? I am still new to all the running lingo. I have an Allyson too. She is in 1st grade and I have a daughter that also started pre-k and she LOVES it!!!! My other daughter is in 2nd grade. They are growning up so fast.....

Carole, How is your garmin working out for you? What are you using it for? Is it just to keep up a good pace or just for distance and mileage? Have a good 6 miler!

Adri, enjoy your workout. I have to say I am very impressed with your dedication and knowledge at your age. You rock!

Judy, my husband knows that I am obsessed with working out. He is so used to it. I have him on the bandwagon though. He is now doing my long runs with me on the weekend. I am converting him. Have a great run!

Shelly, you must be in AWESOME shape to do all those race in a row. Another inspiration for me.

Jennifer, glad you are feeling better!

Katie, I feel the same way about my little pre-schooler. I was very misty eyed when I left her yesterday.

Christine, welcome back!

Elaine, that is quite a workout. I have never been on an eliptical machine. Doing anything the same day as PLB is quiet an achievement. I struggle doing lower body work. I do a lot of short sessions. I think I justify the running as leg work, even though I know it is not the same as weighted leg work.

barb, that was a creative workout today. I never think of mixing it up like that. I am so boring when it comes to change. I always have to do every workout the way it is all the way through. ALl or nothing is me.

I hope I got everyone. If not hello to you as well. Have a great rest of the afternoon. I will see you guys tomorrow.

Cheers!

Susan

Uh, Susan? You ran 7 miles in 58 minutes? And you're new to running? Hmmmmm. I predict you're 10K time is going to be about 51:30! Not too shabby!

And to answer your question about what a tempo run is, here's an excerpt from Runner's World online:

Traditional Tempo Run: Nothing fancy here. After a 2-mile warmup and some strides to loosen up your legs, just get out there and roll at tempo pace. Avoid the temptation to check your watch too soon. Be patient and get into your rhythm before you assess your pace. If you're fatiguing so much that you're slowing down toward the end of this run, you started too fast. A traditional tempo run lasts for at least 20 minutes and maxes out at about 35 minutes. But remember: Your tempo pace is one that you could maintain for up to an hour if it were a race.
