***CHEETAHS** Sun., 9/3

Barb...good idea to not run with the chest cold. I know sometimes I push it when I am sick and it just makes the cold last longer...:)...I was watching the deer in my neighbors property when I got done with my run...I do enjoy that.

Adri...how do you like S&H biceps? True the deer can be annoying but growing up in a big city and then living my adult (I think) life in the country watching the deer is such a treat...:)

Katrina...most of these cheetahs have enabled me to get the Garmin 305!! I should get it tues, I'll let you all know how I like it...:)..good job doing the jackknife!!

Jennifer...I agree it is by default that your profile when you first join is male...until you change it...:)....hope the cold goes away real soon...

Shelly...if you want to try some Powerstrikes let me know. I think there is ony one site to get them thru and it isn't powerstike.com. Great workout for you today!!

Natalie...welcome to the 40 plus club!! I am 47 and looking forward to 50!! I feel you are so ready for your half! I bet you will have such a good time, you have overcome alot of things...

I ran 14.5 miles...walked a bit during the last mile when my neighbors drove with me and visited...a very cute couple in their 80's....

Where is Christine?....did she go to her Dad's??

>Hi Jennifer--
>I definitely didn't mean to embarrass you about being "male"
>on the profile. I'm so sorry if I didn. You are lucky to
>live in CA. You could meet up with Christine at her half
>coming up soon.
>

Not at all, Barb! I thought it was funny :). I hope you didn't think I was offended in any way!

Jennifer

>
>Jennifer-Have fun w/ BC/ME today and LOL on the male thing:7
>

I wish that were me :). Alas, my only plans for today are to take care of my cold and work, believe it or not. Yes, unfortunately, I have some projects I need to be sure to wrap up before I leave for Maui, so I am a busy little worker bee today!

Jennifer

Hi girls.

So I checked out the results of the race and would you believe 230 crazy ladies ran despite Ernesto!? The usual outcome is 300 so not that many bailed! WOW! DH and I were shocked!

Adri-I bailed on the race due to Ernesto. I'm not a seasoned runner so the weather made me very hesitant.

Cathy-I never wanted to join a gym but after 3-4 years of working out soley at home, I finally wanted a change and now I LOVE it! I wouldn't want it to be my ONLY option but I feel it's a great ADDITION to my routine. I know what you mean though about the drive. I would not even LOOK at a gym if it wasn't w/in 10 mins from my house!

Carole-Thanks re the TM run yesterday. I was quite proud that I got through that work out. It was NOT easy! }(

So DH and I went out country dancing last night w/2 friends of ours. It was a great time. I had a few drinks and got SUPER happy. We laughed ALOT and danced ALOT. The night flew by and I didn't want to leave. LOL Had been having major stresses at home the past week so going out and blowing off steam like that was just what I needed. :)

Not sure about today's w/o. It may not happen at all because we are due at a Labor Day party in just a couple of hours. Our friends spent the night last night and didn't leave until after 12 and are coming back soon to go to the LD party with us. I don't think a work out is in the cards for me...LOL Oh well!

BBL!:7

Okay guys,
Can I please be a cheetah too? Pretty Pretty please!!!!

I have been on this running journey for about 4 months now and my long run, which I did today is now 8.5 miles and my daily run is usually 4-6miles. I am OBSESSED with the running. I am really enjoying and I kind of struggling with how to fit all my cathe workouts in which I love too.

One question for you gals. How do you not eat all of the calories you just burned? After an 8 mile run I feel I can eat anything. How do I get over that?

Anyway, I would love to join you lovely and competent women. I read all of your posts daily for inspiration. Thanks for that.

I am off to shower and go to the park with my 3 girls. Just wanted to check-in and say hello.

Cheers!

Susan

SUSAN!!!!

Girl, ofcourse you can join us! Don't be silly! You should have posted sooner! Heck, I joined when I was still doing 1 mile run/walks on the TM!:p

>Take Care!!

Tell me about it. Now today it is beyond friggin' GORGEOUS outside! GRRRR!x(

It is the perfect day to go for a run outside and ofcourse, it's not gonna happen. I doubt I'll have time...;(

Barb the partymeister :: glad the plans are on track (and the yard is smellin’ better) :) …Probably wise to take it easy today…hope you feel better!

Carole :: nice photo of your “guests.” We’ve had a large increase of deer here in suburban South Jersey. Lots of development and nowhere for them to go. Which means many more accidents than before. It’s scary when they shoot out right in front of you! I think you’re right – Christine is in North Carolina.

Adri :: Yes, I do kind of enjoy the pain of DOMS. I feel it most in my delts today, which I find interesting b/c I went very light for the shoulder work in ME yesterday.

Katrina :: no, I’m not from NY but visit NYC as often as I can.

Shelly :: I think you’re right…I’ll just do a day pass now & then…say, on a day that I’m off and can take a class with Cathe. Summertime would be ideal for this. I could even do a temporary membership, which would be more cost-effective. Maybe at some point it will make sense to join, but for now, I agree, I do like the comfort & convenience of my living room. :) Enjoy BC/ME and your cycle. I still haven’t drummed up the nerve to attempt BC (for the first time) today. I took a 1.5 hour yoga class earlier, and now I’m just in a mellow, relaxed zone.

Fitlibrarian :: your name is Natalie, right? Just making sure. Nice way to prep for the race and stay mentally focused. I’m sure you’ll do well. Having a positive attitude and believing you can is always half the battle.

Wendy :: I’m surprised more didn’t bail, but well, a lot of runners are a little nuts! (self included at times – and of course, I mean it in a good way, cheetahs! ;-) ) Super happy, huh? Sounds like a good night. What was your libation of choice?

Hi to Judy, Jess (who must be out jetting around town in her new van), Mattea, Barb, Pamela, Thomasina, Christine, Colleen, Gayle (any leftover S'mores?), Marcia, Dina, Laurie, Wendy Marie and anyone else my fuzzy brain can't call up at the moment.

I swear, I'm getting back to work now. Really.

-cathy :)

Welcome, Susan! :) Glad you could join us.

ETA: In answer to your question...in my experience, the more you run, the more you need to re-fuel. I just try to listen to my body and make healthy choices as much as possible. It sort of works itself out. When you feed your body garbage, you tend to have crappier runs (that SO does not sound right, does it?) But you know what I mean. Some of my favorite snacks are string cheese, pretzels, fruit, nuts, yogurt, and chips & salsa. I also drink a glass or two of skim after every run. I think my body craves the protein. Anyway, you can also get some great nutritional advice on runnersworld.com.

"Super happy, huh? Sounds like a good night. What was your libation of choice?"

Coronas :9 and a few shots!;)

Susan--WELCOME!! I love your screen name and you definitely should have been here sooner. It took me a long time to work up to 8.5 miles! Great, great job!!!!!

About those calories....it's an ongoing challenge for me to remember that I need not eat every calorie I burn when I am still working on those last few pounds -- but tough to find a balance of not undereating and not overeating.

I work at it a lot so that I am feeling fueled but not overdoing it. I can blather on about this topic...........but I guess one thing that's helped me is fueling before the long run (eating well the night before & eating well 2 hours before that long run) and then a good recovery meal after that run. But then I try not to carry over that mindset to other days when workouts are truly lighter. If I don't fuel and re-fuel after the long run, I am off for the week.......

Sarah has a lot of good info on this, too. I've learned a lot from her posts. I think she said on the open forum last week that eating is 82% of it. I think that's right. Another thing I do is that if I'm sure I really am well-fueled, but I still feel hungry, I will make sure I'm hydrated. Mattea & Elaine have a lot to say about this topic, too that's helpful. Nancy Clark's sports Nutrition Book is good. Matt Fitzgerald's book on performance nutrition is a good one.

I'm sure you'll get lots of good info from other runners here.

For me, I start taking a gatorade-substitute with me on my runs over 8 miles. For Super Carole, 8 miles is like a walk to the park and back!!! But 8 miles for me is the distance at which I need to have 15g of carbs with 8 oz of water to go further and still feel well running.

Different things work for different people, though -- and I just know for me, I need to really monitor the fueling-refueling issue closely or I can't run well or recover well.

Cathy--Thanks for wishing the party meister peace and good rest!

Wendy-- your evening out sounds like a blast!

-Barb

Wendy...sounds like you had a fun night. A rest day today good be a great thing. Enjoy your LD party!

Susan...WELCOME!!!! 8.5 miles is great!! I can't help out with cals as I don't really keep track or care...I do use sports drinks normally after about 10 miles. And gels about 12 miles. I have experimented with Sharkies, they are cool and stick to your teeth like gummy bears!! I do feel after 18 miles or more I can eat whatever I want when I finish...:)

Cathy...thanks, the deer are quite fun to watch. So far I have been lucky driving...:)...mine is Michelob Ultra...

I am happy to report that my 20 mile run went as it should have! The last two miles were tough but at least I was able to pick up the pace for the final three miles and did not end up shuffling along like I did last weekend. So, next weekend I'll run 13, the weekend after that will be my last 20 miler and then TAPER!!! I can't believe how fast the time has flown by. In five weeks this marathon will be behind me!

Wendy, I live out here on the California central coast where the weather is mild about 360 days out of the year so I would have ditched the 5K too! Got a new race picked out?

Other than that, I don't know what is going on with whom.....better go read all of the posts so I can add my 2 cents properly:).

Yep guys, I am Natalie I am also known as fitlibrarian at Firm Ya-Ya's.

Susan great job on your 8.5. If you find out the nutrition thing let me know. I just did Body Max and while sitting here ate three almond roca candies. I told myself I deserved it, isn't that kind of dumb?

OK, who finds Cathe's workouts harder than running? Time wise BM would equal a 10 mile run for me. I think the 10 mile run would have been easier. Can't wait to see what Body Max Two is like. Tommorrow since it is a holiday my running partner and I might be able to run together. I think we will go 4-5 Tomorrow and the same on Thursday. We will run 8 on Saturday and then we will begin to taper our miles down.

Hey Sekcy Cheetahs!!!
Just came home from the gym. Weather is super sh!tty out today. its been raining since 11x( x( Hopefully this will all clear up by tomorrow so I can jog.

Wendy-At least you have good weather;-) It looks like its 8 here when its only 6:30}( I think it was for hte best you bailed on your run. I HATE running in rain and heavy wind. yuck. You made a good choice:)

Susan-Welcome Sekcy Cheetah!!! and congrats on your 8.5!!

Carol-I like S&H biceps a lot. They really test the strength of all parts of the bicep (the lower and upper) I would love to wake up to deers in my backyard. I only wake up to annoying stupid woodpeckers
}(

Fitkansaschick-Good luck girl! We love ya:*

Hey there, Cheetahs!! Yes Cathy, I was traveling around in our new van!! I loooooove it!! It's been a super busy weekend & I finally have time to sit down at the computer!!!

I was sooooo tired last night after running, then traveling, visiting family, and then driving home last night!! I hit the pillow at 9:15 & slept in til 8AM!!! We went to see my Grandma in the hospital, my Great Aunt in the nursing home, went to lunch w/ my Dad, and of course my Mom. (although they're divorced they can be civil to each other now!) And then we stopped at my IL's on the way home to visit for a bit too. Then this morning I had to make a batch of brownies & get everyone ready for my Dad's side of the family reunion so more driving (but only a little over an hour) to that. It was nice to see everyone & I'm glad that we went, it meant a lot to my Dad. The girls had fun too since it's at a park so they had lots of fun playing! And the ride was awesome w/ the new DVD player for them to watch! ;-)

I also have been fighting off allergies like crazy, I was soooo stuffy y'day & today they were draining (YUCK!). My throat's been a bit sore & my voice was horrible when I woke up this morning!! It was pretty much a rest day for me except for walking around at the reunion & then we did a little sight seeing & walking around. I'm going to do some pilates & stretch some more. My legs & everything else still feels great, not really sore at all!! I really feel prepared for the marathon now!!

Tomorrow I'm biking w/ Melissa & Erin & then yet again traveling to my IL's- my dh has some relatives coming to visit there. Then Tuesday we can get back to normal schedule!! I feel like I haven't home at all for 2 days (oh wait, I haven't been! :p)

I'm glad that we have so many new *faces* around here!! It makes it fun to see so many of us training for races!!

Have a great evening & have a nice Labor Day tomorrow!

Hugs,

ETA: And I added a few new pics to my picture trail. I got the pics w/ Jamie Lee Curtis from the infomercial plus a couple pics my Aunt just emailed from the family reunion (wow, she's on the ball!) & you can see our new van!
