Does anyone do Charlene's tapes? I was thinking about buying some. Have you ordered from her site or collage? Which ones are good?

Thanks
Rhonda

Hi Rhonda,

I am a HUGE Charlene fan! Her tapes are the only ones I use on a regular basis in addition to Cathe's. She is lots of fun and her step routines always seem like they are starting out easy and then she wears me out! I have all of her step tapes and love them - especially We Love Step, A Major Step, Living Proof and Step It Off, Step It All off. Those are all longer ones - 45-55 minutes of step each. She has a bunch of half-hour ones too. Her low impact tapes are the only ones I've ever found that really get my heart rate up - I especially like Cruising Altitude. Her weight tapes are great too. She does talk quite a bit during them, but I just do an extra set of the exercises and that fills the time. I really like Serious Curves and More Serious Curves. The first one is about 10 years old, but the second one came out last year.

She also just came out with three new tapes this past week. One is a step tape with 61 minutes on the step. There is also one that has two half-hour low impact routines and one is a weight tape on the ball. I am anxiously awaiting their arrival. Having new Cathe and Charlene tapes at the same time is great!

I used to order from Collage, but now I just order from her web site and have found their service to be great.

As you can see, I definitely recommend Charlene! Hope this helps!

I like her, too.
Always have. Chatty, but funny and laid back.
Before Cathe, Serious Curves was the only decent weight tape around (had to modify and repeat segments to make it advanced anough, but it worked). I gave it to my mom (God knows where it is now).
Step tapes and low-impact are all good, though some are better than others. Favorites are Benchmark, Step it off....
I do them once in a while, and usually stay w/them for several sessions before moving back to Cathe.
Moves are very basic--more straightforward and athletic.
Tempo usually slower, too.
But, all can be made more difficult--if needed--by increasing step height.
well-produced, too.

Just checked out her website, which I have not visited for ages.
I had no idea she had so many new videos/DVDs.
I may have to check some out.

Thanks!

I used to do her program when it was on cable. I have one of her older tapes - a high impact one that is great. I laugh now when I pull it out because of the hairstyles, makeup and clothes are quite outdated, but the workout is still great!

She's a keeper....

Hi Rhonda I started working out with Charlene almost 20 years ago She was on cable It figures was the name of her show I have all her tapes except the new ones I don't do them any more cuz Cathe is my fav She really si a good instructor but her pace is much slower then Cathe and a little repetitive but very enjoyable I agree her weight tapes are good I have her season of half hour shows and many videos I would gladly sell them to you for half price if you want let em know what you were thinking of I could mail them to you Theya re in abox in my attic so someone may as well use them or if not that is fine too!
Lisa

OMG Lisa you are not kidding! I tried Women with Balls recently that a friend had given me. She literally does 1 exercise (only 10 reps or so) and then talks for 5 minutes before she does the next one. And then she instructs you for another 5 minutes on how to do the next 10 reps. I turned it off about 1/2 way through. some of the exercises were good but she was driving me crazy and there just wasn't enough of a workout there.

Funny because some people find Mindy Mylrea annoying because she is chatty, but I love her stuff...

Anyways, great recommendation - watch the previews and decide. Everyone has their own style of instructor that they prefer. Thank god we are all different, or we wouldn't have the variety to choose from that we do!

:)

Thanks Lisa! I just previewed every one they have on Collage, and at least from the previews, they don't look like something I would enjoy at all. It's so nice having DSL so the previews actually work - LOL!!

:)

Will I ever find anything that compares to Cathe? I'm thinking NOT! :D But like Punky said, there are many instructors out there and they each have their own style, so it's nice to be able to preview and compare.

I agree. She is way too chatty for me. I even returned the tape. I got so bored with it. I like to workout when the workout starts like Cathe, not waiting for it to start because of sooo much chatting!

Hi Lisa,

Can you tell me which ones you have. I just like her for an evening workout or when I can't do all the high impact stuff. If you can tell me what you have and then I can decide, I would greatly appreciate it. You can e-mail me off line at [email protected].

Thanks
Rhonda

Charlene got me off my butt when I was 14 years old. Twelve years later, I still have her old TV workouts on tape. I like her style and use her for lighter days. (Wow, it's been a long time since I have used her workouts.) She does use the word "Jennin" a lot which she coined for a back-up exercise named Jen who had great leaping power.

Overall, fun workouts, good form/technique.

Charlene Rocks!

Charlene is the main reason I began to exercise at home! During the 1980's I used to do "It Figures" when it came on television every evening.

I LOVE Charlene Prickett's "Crazy for Step" -- it is one of my favorite advanced step videos!

The plain white background makes it easier to focus on learning the choreography because there are no visual distractions.

Some of the music is the same as that on Cathe's videos -- IMAX2 and Muscle Endurance.

I have always loved Charlene's informal style and I can't speak highly enough about "Crazy for Step"! I LOVE that video! It is such fun and time just flies!

It certainly has filled a void in my fitness rotations since Cathe has not been doing many advanced level pure step videos lately.

As for chatty, it does not bother me at all -- NOBODY talks more than Billy Blanks, Richard Simmons or Denise Austin and they all have their niches.

Charlene provides a fantastic advanced workout and I find her fitness advice to be superb.

Hey Rhonda: I'm another big Charlene fan. I was in my 30's and had never exercised then I started with 'It Figures' in 1993. Little did I know that fitness would become my passion and the world's best part-time job (I teach classes as a local women's gym). I'll always have a big soft spot in my heart for Charlene, she got me off of the couch!

I have all of her step and just got 'Crazy for Step' a few weeks ago and am loving it. It is a wonderful workout as are 'A Major Step', 'Living Proof' and 'We Love Step'. These tapes are definitely advanced and leave me drenched and feeling like I had a good hard workout. Some of her old stuff is kind of boring now but I'll still pull one out on a light day or if I'm recovering from illness or injury. At 56 or 57 years old she is awe inspiring and obviously loves what she does. I don't mind her chattiness, she has wisdom and humour and I think she's great.

Enjoy!
:)
Take Care

I tried to like Charlene. She just talks to much, and I don't like hearing the same lecures every time I work out. I have several of her tapes that I'm going to sell on Ebay.

Ah, the memories. I had a Charlene hi/lo tape in the early days, as I was getting bored with the Firm, but had not yet discovered Cathe. My Charlene tape was called Rev Up, the Sequel. I bought it because it was judged to be "advanced" by the Collage people I used to order from. I later ordered Serious Curves. I long ago gave these away, and yes, she is chatty, but she has done a lot for the fitness industry and I commend her. And she is quite old to be in such great shape and still cranking out the tapes too! So, I have nothing but good thoughts about her.

I like her too. Had a number of her tapes which I passed onto my sister when I discovered Cathe. I had a good chuckle over the comments regarding her chatty style. Hated it! Still, she was gives a good workout and her strength work was among the first advanced out there. She does look great. Always thought she should do a little more for her lower body. It never seemd as honed as the upper. LOL!

I've done a couple. One was HORRENDOUS! Step Right UP, probably made in the early 80's and you could totally tell. Form ws awful, very repetitive, etc. Total snoozefest.

I recently got crazy for step, and while the moves are much better, I HATE the stark white set. everything, floor, ceiling, walls is pure white.
