Cathletes Gettin' To Goal~Sept 20-26

Linda: I'm glad your procedure went well. It's funny how we dread things so much but when it's finally over and done with we see it really wasn't that bad. Take it easy the rest of the day. Cathe and Amy will be waiting for you!:p

Hi! Checking back in. It's been kind of a crappy day at work. I've been busting my tuckus to get us licensed to do business and a contractors license in West Virginia-turns out we may not need it! Part of my job is also HR/benefits. An employee of ours recently passed away(lung cancer). Long story but he was actually on seasonal layoff when it happened and hadn't chosen to continue his life insurance benefits. Anyway, I had to explain that to his wife. :( That was awful. I feel terrible for her. :(

No weight loss this week. No gain either. Hopefully, the scale will show a loss next week when I weigh in.

This morning I journeyed back to the early 90's and pulled out an oldie but a (kind of) goodie workout: Kathy Smith's Fat Burning Workout! Those outfits!! LOL! However, it is low impact and my hrm showed that I burned 411 calories in 53 minutes(in my zone for 45 min.). Not too shabby. And it wasn't as boring as walking in place! :p

Rhondalyn: How was the chicken chili? I thought about it last night when I was trying to decide what to make for dinner! I decided on spaghetti and meatballs-with healthy modifications made to the meatballs. So glad you're enjoying CTX. I'm living vicariously through you this week. Your workout today, CTX All Step & Shoulders, is particularly challenging-it's non stop action and your heart rate never comes down! Good job with eating this week!

Jacque: Which circuit workout did you pick? How fun that you got your Power Tower up and running! You'll get there on those veritcal pullups-Cathe will help (aka push) you there!! Your gym is amazing too!! Wow, what a blessing to have such a big space to workout! I showed my DH yours, Nancy's, and Rhondalyn's gyms and asked him what he could do for me!!:eek:;) He just chuckled and mentioned something about the uninsulated, unheated garage for the winter... ;)
Glad to hear Casting Crowns were great! Sounds like we have the same taste in music: CC, Third Day, Jeremy Camp...cool! Do you like Newsboys and Jars of Clay? I've seen all of the above in concert and yep, CC was probably the best, followed closely by Newsboys. :D I use Livingstrong on my PC, maybe I should consider for my BlackBerry. I see they have an application for it. Thank you for the update on your sister. I'll keep her in my prayers.

Linda: Glad your colonoscopy went well today! I wonder if valium is a good option for that procedure? I wished I'd had some for my cortisone shot. It doesn't hurt but I don't like knowing that a big needle is being inserted into my back!:eek: However, they didn't offer me any drugs. ;)
Those Egosque exercises look interesting. I really hope they can help with your alignment and your knees. It sounds like a nagging problem and I hope you get some relief soon. Just make sure that any stretching or exercises that you do for your knee and alignment, don't hurt. My PT says nothing should hurt during a stretch. The pulling/stretch feeling is okay but pain means "stop"! The PT has suggested deep water exercises/aerobics for me. There isn't a gym in the area that offers those classes but I found a pool at a hotel near me that I can pay per use. Not sure yet what I'll do.
Definitely post pictures of your completed projects! How does your daughter like her painted room?
My cortisone shot has finally kicked in 100%! Of course, I'm cautious and just waiting for the next time I wake up and that pain shoots down my leg!! I hear you on food controlling life and thoughts. I feel like I'm constantly thinking about what I will eat or what I have eaten! What is that!!? Yep, Facebook is great! I begrudgingly joined because some friends were bugging me to do it, but now I just love it!! :D

Nancy: What is CLX like? Is it circuits or more like STS?
Wasn't it nice to watch TBL without Jillian swearing at everyone!!? ;) Looks like a good season so far. I was stunned to hear that they only get 1200 calories and have to burn 6000 calories per day! That would explain a 10 and 15 pound weekly losses though!!
When I lose these 37 pounds, please remind me about the perception part again as I know I'll still be comparing myself to my SIL. Last night I looked at a picture of me and my SIL from my wedding. I can see that I did not, in fact, look like a gigantic blob next to her. I looked like a normal sized person! oy! The power of the mind! :D
The receptionist is working out well so far. I haven't worked too closely with her yet(someone else does the receptionist training), but so far, so good. :)

Melissa: Hope you and your family are feeling better! Yay on your new house-it sounds huge! I've been waking up at 2/3am too and feeling hungry. So far a glass of water has done the trick. Hopefully that continues to keep the hungries at bay, cuz there is now way I'm making something to eat at that hour!

Let's finish this week strong ladies!! We can do it!!

Amy Bento has a couple of workouts that use the heavy bag. I'm hoping that one of Cathe's new ones (like the MMA one) will incorporate the heavy bag. I'd love to add another piece of cardio equipment or even some weight machines (like total gym or bowflex) but I've run out of room. !

Hi Jacque, in the MMA Fusion section of shock Cardio, Cathe will be using a heavy bag. Did you say you had a heavy bag before. Was that your picture of the standing bag(the red one?). There are also hanging bags, too. The 2 new things I would like is a weight bench and some kind of heavy bag. Hmmm, wonder if I will have room when I get my workout area set up? :D

Here is some info on the heavy bag:
from http://cathe.com/announcing-our-next-dvd-series
Heavy Bag Bonus
This 20 to 30 minute super infused bonus workout starts out with practice punches, elbows, knees and kicks on the heavy bag. Once acclimated to the “feel” of the bag, you’ll work your way up to doing basic punch/kick combinations on the bag too. Be prepared for your intensity level to explode like never before. This is the REAL DEAL!

I'm back!:D

Lisa: Sorry to hear you're having a bad day at work.:( That must of been awful having to tell that woman her husband had no life insurance.:(

No gain is good. A loss is great but no gain is good too.:) I'm happy to hear the the shot has kicked in 100 percent. It would be great if that would be the end of the pain.:)

I've never done that Kathy Smith workout. My first step workout (before I found this Cathe) was a KS Step Workout. I forget what it was called exactly. It's funny because I used to do that workout everyday. Now I can't bring myself to do the same workout twice in one month most of the time. Sounds like you got a good workout in (even if you did have to look at cheesy workout attaire):D.

Well, I really didn't do a circuit workout after all. I had no energy and a lingering headache. I almost didn't do any workout but then decided to put in Lauren Brooks kettlebell DVD just to check it out (I've had it for a year already and have never done it) I ended up doing the 12 minute Fat Blaster workout, then I put in 4DS and did LIS, I finished with the stability ball segment of Stretch Max.

I like Newsboys. I'm not into Jars of Clay too much. I saw Newsboys in concert a loooong time ago (probably when their first album came out) they opened up for Steven Curtis Chapman. I also like Mercy Me. I was bummed out because MM was in concert the same night as CC. MM had their concert at Chase Field after the Diamondbacks game. I really would of liked to have seen them too.

Linda: Thanks for the info regarding Cathe's heavy bag workout. I thought I had read it somewhere but I couldn't remember for sure. I can't wait for these workouts!!:D I like using my bag. I get a workout just dragging it out of the corner into the center of the room.;)

Yeah Lisa, I feel bad you had to give the woman the bad news about the life insurance policy. I would have been in tears having to deliver that info:(. Knowing you, you must've been, too. I think you would make a very good HR rep, if you were to ask me! Don't worry about the no loss week. I'm trying to get back down to my lowest since I started, and even with the scope procedure, I still wasn't there! Yeah, next week we'll register a loss --> positive thinking. Did you eat the cake in the frig, the one you said "no" to yesterday? Hope so!

Jacque: I use to do a Kathy Smith one every other day all the time, and no others(because I didn't have any). I gave it to someone so I can't remember the name of it either. In that one Kathy had a couple of people also "teach" sections. I thought it was good at that time, but, I would never do it again! Never tried the one Lisa was talking about though. I kind of liked her kickbox one with Keith Cook in it. I'm glad I found Cathe, though! I have some other Kathy Smith ones -- something to do with lifting little weights to lose weight? And, another one, but, can't remember exactly what it is, but, it seems like she always stands close to the guys or touches them, trying to do a flirting thing--I always thought that was weird and funny at the same time!:D ha ha.

Yep, Jacque and Linda it was really awful telling the employee's wife that there wasn't any money coming from the company. I hope they had other life insurance. Since starting here 2+ years ago, I've had to process 3 life insurance claims. Yuck! I cry every time!!
Linda, thanks for saying you'd think I'd make a good HR rep. I think if it were my only job, I'd like it more and maybe even try harder at it. However, it gets in the way of my controller duties!!:p ;)

Kathy Smith Step Workout was my first step workout! I alternated the Fat Burning with the Step Workout for at least a year!! Oh, and my favorite part was when she let the other people lead the workout! :D Remember the guy with the really short shorts and 3 risers on EACH side?!!

Jacque: I do like Mercy Me. I've never seen them in concert though. Ever since I moved 3 hours north of Minneapolis/St. Paul, I don't get to see many concerts. :(

Linda: I didn't eat the cake yesterday....wish I could say the same for today!!!:eek: I will just log it and move on...

Got in a short workout this morning and am hoping to take the doggie for a walk before dinner and Survivor!!

Happy Thursday everyone!! :)

Hi Lisa:
Kathy Smith Step Workout must be the one I had that I must've done a hundred times because I didn't have any other ones! The guy you are talking about, maybe his name is Richard and he had a white(actually gray) T shirt? He also lead, too, right? That seemed tough at the time, but would it seem tough now??? The girls had the thong leotards over the short, too -- such a fashion statement!

Also, I was looking through my belongings yesterday after I got back from my procedure, and found a sheet where they listed the drugs they gave me. I was awake the whole time and nothing bugged me too much! I had Fentynol and Versed. Also, included was a drawn picture of my intestines(front view) with numbers on them, and then on another paper, pictures at each numbered point form the perspective of the scope. Just looks like a tunnel. Kind of interesting. Sorry if that grossed anyone out... I just thought it was interesting to know this stuff (after the fact!).

Linda, that's great that your procedure went so well and there are no problems. That's too bad about no weight loss, but you probably would have put it right back on as soon as you ate anyway. It sounds like your leg/foot problems are more severe than mine, as I've never been knock-kneed. My workout shoes are Saucony and they're running shoes, not crosstrainers. To tell you the truth, I've never paid any attention to the wear pattern on them. I don't normally work out late, but it's been that way a few times this week. Usually it's early afternoon when I get to it.

Jacque, I'm sorry about your migraine. I hope it's completely gone by now. Considering you don't like assembling things, then the Tower must be really easy. That's great. I did one of the cardio ones on Sunday (can't remember the name) and then today I did Burn Intervals. I liked both of them, although they're not high on my favorites list at all.

Lisa, what a miserable day you had! I'm sorry you had to deal with that poor woman about the insurance. Nice going on the workout! What a thrill that the cortisone seems to be working. I've only done a few CLX workouts so far, but they're not anything like STS at all. STS is focused on a single body part at a time, while CLX uses mostly compound moves. The three weights workouts in the week are not circuits, but the Burn Intervals I did today was. It was athletic drills and a little Turbo Jam-style kickboxing, alternated with endurance weight work. I would not recommend these workouts for anyone with knee or back problems. The compound moves mean there is a lot of twisting and bending and I can see where it would be easy to get hurt if you're not paying attention because there is so much to think about. I imagine as the weeks/months go on I'll get more used to them. I don't dislike the workouts at all. They're just very different than I'm used to. You have a deal about reminding you of the perception thing!

I already talked about my workout today, so I won't repeat myself. CLX is going fine. I'm a little sore, but that is to be expected with a new workout. I will feel much more comfortable with everything next week, I think, after having done them once.

Happy Friday! No weight loss for me, still maintaining the 6# loss, though. I am not even phased because I have been doing so well eating wise the last few days, I know I will break the plateau. I am doing a race tonight. Its a fundraiser for my kids school. I will pass on the pizza they hand out afterwards though! I have had to focus more on streching, yoga and walking this week because my costochondritis is flared up from too many bench press with the 45#bar. My sternum pops a lot and sometimes with a lot of chest work the cartilage to the left of my sternum will flare up....when it does, I just back off and it gets better. The chiropractor on Monday will be my best friend! Glad to hear of so many health improvements with everyone! On days where I am pain free with no limitations...what a blessing!

I made Chicken Chili last week. It was great: It is so easy I am going to post the recipe....you will all love it! Kids love it too!
ingredients:
2-3 chicken breasts, cooked and chopped (I boil it)
2 cans low fat cream of chicken soup
1 can green enchillada sauce (this is the secret!)
1 can whole kernel corn, drained
2 cans pinto beans, drained
1 can Great Northern Beans, drained
Mix all ingredients in a large pot, heat and serve...yummy with a little reduced fat cheddar cheese on top!

Jacque, Dr Oz recommends whole grain cereal (measured) with 1 cup skim or low fat soy milk for breakfast. I am such a cereal eater that I do this 3 days a week. I alternate the other days with 1 whole egg, egg whites and a piece of 50-cal whole wheat toast. I don't use soy milk, though...it is a somewhat controversial product in the nutrition world....so I just steer clear. I do love Dr Oz, though...I havent missed a show since it started Sept 14!

Does anyone have any easy-prep favorite recipes they would like to post for weeknight? I am in a funk...tired of the same stuff!

Thanks for keeping this going everyone! I look forward to checking out what everyone is up to. You are all so motivating! And I love all the workout room pics! I am working on that for next week!

No w/o today. The pool people came this morning to close the pool when I was getting ready to exercise and then I had to wait for the tv/phone/internet people to connect service at DS's house for him. I probably could have got one in this afternoon but just haven't done it. Down .4 so I'll take it. :D

We have lots of flu floating around our state. Swine and other.... are you guys seeing much?

Well, I don't have a heavy bag and don't feel like I'll be needing one any time soon. That just doesn't appeal to me right now. I guess I should never try it either because I sure don't need another piece of equipment. LOL I have a power tower, Jacque and there's no way I can do a pull up without using bands to assist.

---The above was typed and saved yesterday. I kept thinking I would get back to post but didn't make it.----

Today I did Leaner Legs. I don't know why you don't love this one, Jacque. ;)

Lacy, your chili recipe is different from mine. I looks good and I might have to try it as well. :D Good job on your eating. There's so much to be said for consistency. Something I'm striving for. I'll have to think about the recipes. Anything in particular you're looking for?

Linda, I'm so glad the scope went well. I don't remember a thing from mine after they moved me into the room. And for that, I'm thankful.:p

Lisa, the chile was goooood and it's all gone now. I do have a strawberry cake in my fridge though. DD made it for her fiance's birthday. I had one piece yesterday but I'm not eating any more.

Nancy, DOMS is a good thing. LOL Most of the time anyway. ;)

Gotta run, shower and get some things done. I'm getting a late start and don't really want to get out of the house. It's raining on and off again today. I can't believe it's already Friday.

Friday

Lacy, your chili sounds delicious. Thanks for posting the recipe!

Rhondalyn, how are you feeling? Are you recovered from being sick. It sounds like you're getting back into your workouts again.

I did CLX Burn Circuit 3, followed by 30 minutes on the treadmill while watching TV, including the hill interval. Have a great weekend everyone!

Happy weekend!

:DGood Evening!

This morning I did Amy Bento's Slow Mo Back/Shoulders/Tris Premix, since I was short on time for the whole thing(it was aout 48 minutes). Someone in open forum was talking about it, so, I decided to bust open the packaging(never opened it, but have had it for over a year, I think!). I liked it, but, it was much different than Cathe's. I could not lift very heavy either, probably because of the positioning. It's nice to try new things once in awhile .

Next, I went to my Phys Therapy for my knee. I have been kind of wishy washy about whether to do PT or Egosque. Well, I really like Egoscue(he gave me an hour’s worth of exercise which seem really good, and knew a lot about anatomy and body alignment from just talking about my knee issues). Problem is insurance probably won’t pay for it, but, if I wait until January, I can have my health savings account fund it, so, I think that’s what I plan to do -- I think it’s around $1200 + for 8 lessons(can’t remember exactly). In the meantime, I am going to do the exercises he gave me as often as I can in a week, as I think it will be beneficial in the long run. As far as the PT goes, the PTherapist was good, but, didn’t understand that I could lift heavier than air! Then, today I had the PT Aide, and he has no clue about body alignment and positioning. For instance I did a little squat and he demo-ed it first and his knee went way beyond his toes!!! When I did it, he said I should keep my body totally upright(don’t bend at hips), and my knees should be forward more. Yikes! I politely told him from what I know, the knee isn’t suppose to go that far. Needless today he was not impressing. He just walked around after he told me what other exercises to do(directed by the PT who wasn’t around that I could see).
I’m just going to get the exercises, and use them to my advantage in the correct form, and use their equipment. I will do that maybe for a couple of more weeks instead of 6, because I think I won’t be able to stand the guys ignorance! LOL!! The reason I’m sticking with this is, insurance will pay, and I’ll get strengthening exercises(but, in actuality all of you or I can probably figure it out).

Yesterday and today,I was picking up items for my son. He was in a dorm last year, at Univ or Oregon, but, this year he’s in an apartment, so, I’m running around to Target and Goodwill getting stuff. First time I’ve been in Goodwill since college! I got a set of Oneida silverware(new) for $10 – I split it with a lady who didn’t need a full set either – What a deal!!! The set had about 75 – 100 pieces in it, I think J.

I’m about to help load up the 2 cars now, so we can leave early tomorrow for Eugene. I am going to try to get up early and do some kind of other workout. I did eat pretty well as far a points go this week(but not today), but my digestive system hasn’t totally got back to normal, but, I think it’s headed in a good direction!

Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention this is my last FREE weekend before I have to go back to worko Monday. I guess they’ve got work lined up for when I get back. Not looking forward to that, though. I REALLY enjoyed my time off this summer….. Sabbaticals are a good thing!

I’ve moved everything around in the computer/workout room, throwing out and cleaning lots of dust I found behind the furniture. I think the next step is take the pictures off the wall, and start masking(probably all day Sunday and more). I will have to paint a little at a time, once I am back at work!

Lacy The chile souds yummy and easy—I kow whre to find the recipe when I want to make it!

Jacque and Rhonda: You both got a Power Tower! Wow, equipment junkies! J Guess I am jealous, but, I have a Valor squat rack similar to Nancy J

Nancy: I’ve had Saucony in the past, and REALLY liked them. Last time I was buying shoes, they had Asics on sale, although I was wanting the Sauconys, but, the deal on the Asics I couldn’t pass up!

Have a great weekend everyone!!

Good morning and happy Saturday ladies! Just got done with my 12 min. of Walk Away the Pounds (use it for a warm up-SO boring) followed by Slim Series Cardio Sculpt, then 30 minutes of PT exercies. I'm pooped!

Just checking in here quickly, then I'm off to the store to get apples so that I can bake 2 pies for one of my SIL's open house this afternoon.

Nancy: CLX sounds fun but yeah, I'll avoid getting it for a bit ;) I was officially cleared by the chiro & PT to do water aerobics and I found a community center right by my office that has WA 3x a week. YAY! Speaking of DOMS...I actually had some from the KS Fat Burning Workout. No actualy weights are used during the workout but boy my lats are sore!!!

Lacy: Thank you for the chili recipe!! I'm making this in October and freezing some for meals!! Maintaining is great especially since it sounds like the food part is working for you!
How was your race? I love my chiropractor too! Tho' I think he had a few words for Cathe after I came back from the RT!!:eek: ;)
Oh, I will dig through my recipes and find a few for you. I know I have one for a yummy corn chowder soup and a really good pasta bake. :)

Rhondalyn: Congratulations on your loss!! A loss is not a gain and that is a beautiful thing!! :D
I have heard too much about the Swine flu or regular flu hitting MN too badly yet. Tho' they talk about it every single night on the local news! Mostly just showing the hand sanitizer that the schools have put in each classroom. I'm glad they have that but let's at least get a new story or new angle each night!! :)
I'm not a fan of Leaner Legs either; and CTX is my favorite series of Cathe's! It seems so harmless when you first start the workout...I'm just amazed that such a wonderful, gracious, and super nice woman can cause SO much pain!!:confused::p

Jacque: Hope you are feeling better!!

Linda: Sounds like you have a busy weekend ahead of you! Good luck moving your son! I wish I could go to Eugene- I miss my sister. :( Go Ducks!! :D
Can you get another PT? The 2 you have sound not so qualified. I really like mine. She makes sure to stress alignment all the time. Those Egosque classes sound pricey! Yay for HSA and FSA's! I wished I had put some money in mine for this year! But I didn't know I was going to have such troubles.
Are you ready to get back to work? I'm assuming that someone else was doing your job while you were gone and that is not 3 months of work & emails waiting for you!:p
I think Richard is that guys name in KS Step Workout. Those outfits are something else! When I was doing the Fat Burning Workout yesterday I was chuckling at their belts and matching leg warmers!

I didn't spellcheck/grammar check this so excuse my errors!!

Have a great weekend everyone!!
