Cathletes Gettin' To Goal 10/18 - 10/24

Don't worry about the date mix-up Nancy! It can happen to anybody.;)
Wow you're doing great with the weight loss.:D I'm just a little bit jealous.;) Keep it up! You'll be at goal in no time.:)

No workout for me today. I guess you can say it's been a rest week. The only workout I got in all week was on Monday. I did some walking in SF and swam yesterday in our pool.

I'll try to check-in again later.

Hello! Phew! I am SO glad it's not the the week of Thanksgiving!! My turkey's not purchased or thawed! ;)

Thanks for starting us out, Nancy! :) You are AMAZING!! 15+ pounds GONE!! Bravo bravo bravo!! You must be very proud of yourself?! I'm proud of you too! :D Hope you got caught up on your shows!
I was researching your weightloss plan a little bit. If I just ordered the book (the one about the middle-aged middle) could I figure out what to do from that one book or do I need the one about the protein too? Also, do you find that Hansen's soda in a store or do you buy it online? Hey, can you tell I'm desperately looking for a solution to my "middle-aged middle"?

Jacque: Welcome back from SF!!

Well, I completely fell off the rails/train/station/wagon...you name it...this weekend. :( Not only do I feel badly about my lack of self control, I also feel a little sick. Darn you halloween candy!! I really didn't get any workouts in. I started a workout yesterday but was having issues with pain so stopped. I never got back to it. This morning I just couldn't get motivated to do any sort of workout.
The upside is that I found an aqua belt yesterday; now I can try out some deep water aerobics. I went to 2 sporting goods stores yesterday, both had Cathe/Altus stuff. It was fun to see her there! ;) My aqua belt is by Altus. There was another brand available but since I love the free Cathe step mat from the RT so much, I went with Altus. :D

Sunday

Lisa, sorry about the momentary panic over your turkey situation! I posted this perspective on 6-Week Cure For The Middle-Aged Middle/Protein Power Lifeplan to some friends on another board so I'll copy and paste it here in case it helps you when you're looking into it:

It's hard for me to judge whether someone could do the PP plan longterm from the information provided in the 6WC book. I knew so much about the plan already, that it's difficult to separate what I already knew from what I was gleaning from the book. My take is that 6WC is a great place to start, but one would have to keep in mind that it's really not like the full PP plan, as 6WC is much more restrictive. I did order and read the Protein Power Lifeplan (updated from the original Protein Power that I already had) and it has much more concrete numbers about required protein/carb grams than 6WC has. It is filled with a lot of science and justification for their (Drs. Eades) plan. I mean a lot. It's all good information for someone who is just getting into it and needs to know the "why" behind the "what." I skimmed most of the book -- several hundred pages, in fact -- because I didn't need to be convinced and remembered a lot of it from the first PP book. What I'm trying to say is that I honestly don't know whether just 6WC would be a good reference longterm or it needs to be followed with PPLP, or whether starting with PPLP will give the same quick-start results (I can't remember all these years later how quickly I lost in the first few weeks of the PP plan).

As far as the Hansen's Diet Rootbeer, I find it at Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Sprouts, and in the health food section of Fry's (which I believe is Kroeger in other parts of the country).

I wouldn't worry too much about your not being able to work out this weekend. It sounds to me like the water aerobics classes are your ticket to success right now, both in terms of getting some exercise and letting your back rest and heal. I can't imagine how much you must miss more frequent/different workouts, but just think that at 3 times a week, you're getting more exercise than most Americans. Sad, but true.

Jacque, from what you posted on FB it sounds like your SF trip was quite the adventure! I hope you had a great time in spite of all of the hassles.

Linda, from my misposted thread, thank you for your congratulations!

Nancy, you rock! Your clothes must be getting very loose by now! That is soo motivating! I too like the Hansens soda. They were very popular in California. I have seen them at Trader Joes and Farm Fresh here in Virginia.

Lisa: I am sure that aqua belt will really add to your workouts. My husband is and was a cometitive swimmer, he swears by the water and how many calories you burn in there!

As I predicted, maintained the wt loss last week, but no furhter loss. I know I need to turn a corner and kick it up a knotch to break this plateau. My short term goal at this point is maybe a pound or 2 by Thanksgiving. And no wt gain during the holidays...we'll see how that goes! I am in love with Cathe's Kick Punch Crunch right now...it is easy to follow and a good indoor cardio as it has been freezing here the last few days. I am still feeling Plyo Legs from Saturday. Took my husband out for his birthday this weekend, so that pig-out is behind me and I'm back on the wagon this morning!
Have a great week everyone!

Hi all!

I almost forgot to check in today. I did All Out Infused Step with Gay Gasper today. I like this one. It's a good solid step w/o.

Did you ever see Obama, Jacque? I need to check your FB, I guess.

So is the aqua belt weighted, Lisa?

Nancy, you are rockin' that plan. I'm so happy for you. Like Lisa, I'm tempted to look into it as well.:p I wish we had a TJ or WF close. I did go in the WF in L-ville yesterday and had a great time. ;)

Lacy, I'm back on the wagon with you. I am not going to gain more over the holidays. I am not.

Let's have a good week girls!

It's me again.

Today I did the second wt w/o from KCM's new strength training dvd. I can't ever remember the name. It's just okay. There was not a w/u with this one and that was a little disappointing. They're just not going to be my favorites. I have yet to do the body wt w/o and I'm going to try that at some point this week.

I had to take my DM out to run some errands today but that's about all the excitement I've had today. :D

So what's everyone up to?????

Hi everyone!!

I hope everyone's having a great week. Mine hasn't started off so great :(. We found out yesterday that my DH was the victim of identity theft. We're thinking that someone got his credit card information while we were in SF.

Also, my oldest DS (the D doesn't stand for dear in this case:confused:) is failing Spanish 2. This is very surprising since he's normally a good student. We've had some troubles with his grades in the past because he can get lazy sometimes. He's very smart and has gotten used to getting good grades without having to put mach effort into it. When this has happened in the past we just impliment some sort of discipline (take his cell phone, grounding, etc.) and that usually takes care of the problem. It's never been this bad before. He would of been ineligible for football if his teacher hadn't of let him turn in missing work and bring his grade up to a D yesterday. I have a had time dealing with the fact that he was that close to being ineligible. I've always taken pride in the fact that he has always been on the honor roll. His teacher feels his new girlfriend is playing a part in this and I think she's probably right. So I'm gearing myself up for a huge confrontation when he gets home. His dad and I have agreed to take his car away until he brings up his grades.:( His teacher also mentioned that she's had to speak on him on a couple of occasions regarding his public display of affection with his girlfriend. This bothers me also since we've raised him in a Christian home and this goes against what we've taught him to be right.

Thanks for letting me vent. I'll be back later (after Bible Study) for personals.

Rainy Tuesday

Hello there!

This morning I did Slim Series Cardio Sculpt. It's just 30 min. but it works the entire upper body with light weights and a band. The "cardio" part comes from no rests and some marching or kicking. I'm just glad I can do it!! :) Tonight I did 1/2 of segment 1 on Core Max and then Tamilee's Stretching for Flexibility. Again, just happy to be able to do something. :)

No weightloss to report this week. I figured as much. I'm happy I didn't gain. I need to do something about the evenings. I get home and starting grazing.

Anyway...

Nancy: Thank you for explaining the 6WC plan. I'm still considering getting the book(s). I am SO looking for the Hansen's at TJ's next month!! I'm glad it's available somewhere! :)
How's your week going?

Lacy: I am back on the wagon this week too! We can be wagon buddies :) Isn't KPC great!? I'm glad you're finding an alternative during the cold weather.
I can really see how swimming-especially lap-can burn A LOT of calories. It just takes 1 lap to get so winded! I try to get in 6 laps before H2O class starts. I'm tired before the workout starts! That reminds me...I need to buy goggles. :D

Rhondalyn: No w/u?! Really? Wow. Are these the DVD's from KCM's new series?
My aqua belt is not weighted. It's really light. I think it's made of styrofoam! lol! kidding...but it is really light. We use floating dumbbells in the water which is challenging. I saw online that they make a floating barbell!! I wonder if I could do MM or PH or MIS in the water!!

Oh! Rhondalyn...I want to get on the "Not gonna gain during the holidays" bandwagon too! How many wagons am I on?

Well, I'm off to watch TBL!! I TiVo it, then start watching about halfway through. This way I miss the commercials!!

Later chicas! :D

Jacque: We must have posted at the same time.

((Hugs)) I'm sorry you're having a stressful week.

Identity theft!! Yikes! I hope you can get it all sorted out quickly.

That has got to be so hard to learn everything that is going on and is not going on at school, all at once. I can't imagine. I hope your talk with him goes well. I'll pray for the discussion with your son.

Tuesday

Rhondalyn, that is so strange about there not being a warmup for that workout. It would make me wonder about the setup of the whole thing. Nice going, though, on getting back into a regular workout routine after the hustle and bustle of a few weeks ago.

Jacque, isn't parenting just the toughest job in the whole wide world? And when it comes to discipline I don't think it's a lie when you say, "This is going to hurt me more than it hurts you," even though they don't see it that way. It just breaks your heart to have to do things like that, but you're right to hold a hard line when it comes to schoolwork. I think as much as anything when something like this happens we feel disappointed and that disappointment tends to be something we take personally and that makes it even harder. I hope you guys can get through this relatively easily.

Lisa, good going on the workout and those extra laps you do before you start your water aerobics class. Swimming has always been incredibly difficult for me, although I love the water and would enjoy water aerobics, I'm sure. I don't know whether I'm just not built for swimming, didn't learn correctly, or just plain couldn't get enough practice in since I've never had a pool.

I started the Push phase of CLX yesterday and I can tell already that I'm going to like this particular phase. I went a little lighter than I could have in most exercises since I didn't know what to expect, but I have my notes on which ones to heavy up on next time. Tonight I walked during what would have been the first hour of TBL, except that I apparently didn't set the recorder correctly . I watched something else while the second hour was taping and I'm off shortly to go watch that. Eating is going well, although I think I ate too many carbs today, only because I ate out two meals and it's hard to know what all is in some types of foods. I'm pleased, though, that dinner's restaurant is in the same mall as the store where I always, always have to stop and get chocolate-covered strawberries (Jacque it's AJ's Fine Foods in La Encantada) and tonight I did not get any.

I'm back!:D Thanks Lisa and Nancy for the encouraging words. We made it through the "talk" OK. It wasn't as bad as we initially thought. I've noticed through the years with all the teachers that my kids have had that some tend to overdramatize things. I get that feeling from his Spanish teacher. Some of the comments she made in her email were over the top. For example; she suggested that maybe he forged his dad's signature on the course requirements and expectations form she sent home the first week of school. I know his dad was the one who signed it (he might not of read it but he signed it;)) I was having a hard time dealing with the PDA at school but it turns out all it was is she saw them hug in the hallway outside her classroom.. That doesn't excuse the fact that he was failing her class because he hasn't been turning in his homework. He got enough of it done yesterday that it brought his grade up to a D so he could meet eligibility for football. I don't think he realized that his grade had dropped that much. I think being that close to being ineligible really scared him. To him that would have been a real embarrassment . I'm pretty confident that he'll buckle down and get his work done now. We gave him until the end of the week to get his grade up to a C before we take his car away. Anyway, thanks for listening (or reading I should say if you've made it this far :p).

Lisa: Thanks for the prayers. I'm glad to hear you were able to get a workout done today. I can't imagine how frustrating that must be. :( Here's an idea for you: you can buy the download of MIS or MM, put it on an ipod, buy one of those waterproof cases for the ipod and then you can do your workout in the pool. :D Whatever works right? As far as the identity theft goes the credit card company cancelled his card and now he has to dispute the charges. What's crazy is whoever stole the number made donations to the March of Dimes (along with buying airline tickets to Brazil) Who steals a credit card and then makes a donation to charity with it !

Nancy: You're so right! Parenting is the toughest job. We've been blessed though with good kids. I'm just grateful we're not dealing with more serious matters like drugs and drinking. It's so true what you said about being disappointed. He's such a smart kid he should be the top of his class but he lacks work ethic.:(
I was going to ask you if you liked the Push phase of CLX better than the Burn. I remember liking it better.
We go to that AJ's alot when we go to Tucson. My DH likes their crab salad. I've never tried their chocolate covered strawberries though. Good for you for resisting.;) I'm sorry that you missed part of TBL. Do they have the episodes online? Maybe you could watch it there.

Lacy: Can I join you on that short-term goal. Mine also is to lose a couple more pounds before Thanksgiving and then not to gain anything during the holidays. It's going to be hard but we can do it!

Rhondalyn: I did a new KCM workout today also. I tried Cardio Blast the Athletic Step portion of it. I liked it better than I thought it would. I only had thirty minutes to work out today and this fit the bill. I didn't have alot of energy either so the intensity was just right. I'm sorry to hear that you didn't care for the one you tried. Was it possible that the w/u was on the other workout on the DVD? I'm not sure how she set up these workouts because this is only the second one I've tried (and I haven't done any of the weight training ones) but maybe there's only one w/u for both workouts.
I'm sad to say that we never saw Obama in SF. It sure is chaos when he's around though. :p

Good night!

Hi guys,

I think I'll probably make today a rest day. I had to work again and I'm just now sitting down. I will try to walk on the TM for a bit tonight if I can get DH downstairs. I'm supposed to make him but he doesn't last too long when he does go down so we shall see.;) Eating has been good this week so far!

Jacque, I'm glad things are not as bad as you were expecting. Kids!!!! Gotta love them. LOL Vent as you need. :D Yes, I think the w/u was on the first w/o but I hate to have to switch back and forth when trying to get a w/o in. I have most of KCM's w/os and like most of them. These just aren't my favorites of all of them.

Great job with the eating Nancy! :D I thought you might like Push a little better than Burn. It was my favorite phase.

Okay, Lisa, I'm trying to wrap my mind around these water w/os. LOL I'm guessing the belt is to keep you afloat? Makes more sense now.

Well, I'm hungry so I'm off to find something wonderful to eat!

Wednesday evening

Where is everyone today? I just got back a little while ago from DS's choir concert. It was so good. He did great on his solos. I could be a little biased but I don't think so. :D Singing is his first love. Football is just something to do :p.

Today's WO was Insanity Plyo Circuit (I can't remember the whole name). This was a HARD workout (but fun too) What I like is at the end of some the circuits some of the the cast members are lying in a heap on the floor (just like me :D) I don't feel so bad then.

Rhondalyn: I almost did another KCM workout today (one of the 30 minute ones I haven't done yet) but took it out and put the Insanity one in. I didn't like her much at first but she's starting to grow on me a little more. I know what you mean about not liking to switch back and forth to get a workout done. She should of put the w/u on both workouts (even if she just used the same one). Good job with the eating. This has been a PMS week for me so eating has not gone so great.:(

Well it's late and I need to get to bed. Good night everyone.:)

Got my Koga workout DVD yesterday...I will post a review once I've done it...I hope its fun...a blend of yoga and kickbox!

Anyone see the new Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader workout DVDs yet? I am laughing as I'm typing that for some reason!

Thursday

Good morning!

This week is flying by! :) Is it me or is Facebook wonky today?

Yesterday I got my H2O aerobics class in. I decided to give my aqua belt a whirl. It really does keep you bouyant! I found out that I was wearing it incorrectly though. I had the belt too tight and it was pressing on my diaphram. Well...I nearly passed out!:eek: All of a sudden my vision went all blurry and everything started spinning. I quickly took the belt off-chucked it out of the pool-and inched my way to the shallow end. Lots of drama! I'll be more careful tomorrow.

This morning I did about 20 min of KPC. Had to modify but it was still fun! The I did my modified version of PUB. Tonight I will do segment 1 of CM (again, with modifications) and Tamilee Webb's Stretching for Flexibility.

I think I'm noticing a pattern with my pain. It always "flares" up during PMS (so does my appetite)! Makes total sense. Doesn't make the pain less but at least I know.

Jacque: I so happy your talk with your son went well and it wasn't as bad as that teacher made it out to be. What a relief!! :)
I finally saw the informercial for Insanity. It does look insane...and fun! I would love to be able to do it someday. I think I would really like plyo! Someone on the OD forum posted a link to a video of a mother & daughter doing an Insanity workout together. Looked like a lot of fun! Challenging but fun. :)
Thanks for the suggestion on the Cathe downloads! I asked for an ipod Nano for Christmas. :D Last night there was a guy swimming with goggles that had earphones attached to them...I'm guessing waterproof. So I think there is a way to take Cathe to the pool!! :D
A charitable thief on his/her way to Brazil? Weird!

Nancy: I'm gonna mention TiVo one more time ;) You'd love it!! :D Or any other DVR-type device... I am not enjoying TBL as much this season. Maybe because last season was so good? Just can't get into it.
Good job on passing up the chocolate covered strawberries! Especially since you normally get them. You are doing so well!!
I am SO thankful that my parents insisted on swimming lessons for me and my sis. I remember being annoyed at the time but now I am very happy she made me go!!

Rhondalyn: Way to go on your eating this week!! Did you get your DH downstairs to exercise? I can't really get mine to exercise. Last year he joined the gym with me. I showed him the equipment, designed a workout routine for him. He was all set. He quickly decided that he wanted to watch the news on the TM. Which is fine except he had the speed set to 2.5mph! The only "weight" machine he would do was the ab machine. He's not going to join this winter...but he did agree to try PUB at least once. We'll see!! ;)
Yep, that's exactly what the water belt is for...keeping me afloat and my head above water so I can "jog" or "walk". :)

Lacy: Can't wait to hear about KOGA!! I saw the cheerleaders on the news yesterday plugging their workout! Definitely LOL!!

Have a good day everyone!!

Thursday evening

Hi everyone!:D I hope you all had a great day! I spent my day at the salon. My stylist had a color go bad today so when I walked in for my appointment she was just starting to fix it. It put her an hour and a half past schedule then my appointment took 4 hours  so I was literally there the whole day.:) She put some highlights in my hair but I'm not sure if I like them yet. They may be a little too much.

Before I went to my appointment I did Insanity Cardio Power and Resistance. I'm going to try a modified Insanity rotation. I really like these workouts but they are really intense so I don't think I could do the rotaion as it is written. I think when it repeats a workout in the week I'll probably do something else (like Cathe :)I have to get my Cathe fix).

I'll be gone most of the day tomorrow also. My DS is playing football in Round Valley which is about 3 and a half hours away . I wish his games were closer but since we live a rural part of the state other teams in his conference are a distance away. They're record is 6 and 2 right now and they have made the playoffs.:)

Lacy: Please let us know how you like the Koga workout. I think its workouts like the cheerleading one that give video workouts a bad name. People associate working out at home with videos like that and think it's a joke.

Lisa: Be careful in that pool. I've never heard of anyone drowning during water aerobics but you never know.:p That's good that you're starting to identify what causes your pain. It'll help you manage it better. I always get terrible headaches with PMS. Seems to be getting worse as I get older.

I'll come back later and see if anyone else checks in.

I'm checking in Jacque. :D I ended up on the elliptical last night and today I did the first w/o on KCM's Body Training DVD. I really need to start previewing or at least read about what's on these dvds before I do them. I thought both w/os were total body and they aren't. The first one was standing lower body only so I added a 16 minute premix for upper body. :)

Jacque, that's a long time to spend in a salon. I bet the highlights look good. Have fun today and I hope they win. :D

Lisa, I couldn't help but laugh at your aqua belt incident. I know it wasn't funny. I'm sorry.;) I think everything flares up with PMS. I did get DH downstairs but he only walked for about 15 minutes. I guess it's better than nothing. LOL

Lacy, I can't wait to hear what you think about the KOGA w/o. It sounds like something I might like. I'm not tempted by the DCC w/o right now. :p

Oh, I don't know if my ticker will work or not but it should go down .4 this week. Since it hasn't been a full week since I made up my mind to really get serious, (again ) I'm happy with it. I haven't felt this positive for some time. I'm seriously going to lose instead of gain this holiday season. :D

Friday

Jacque, I'm glad things with your son weren't nearly as dire as it seemed at first. How nice that you got to enjoy a choir performance on the heels of the trouble. I hope your drive is a safe one for the football game and that they get to put another one in the win column. Have you decided whether you like your hair?

Lacy, can't wait to hear about the Koga workout. I have managed to miss anything about the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders workout. I did check out the Tracie Long Longevity clips today and I'm not going to be ordering them. They just didn't get me excited at all. I think part of it is that it's just her and they seem to lack that energy that comes from a group setting. A friend and I had talked about her preordering all of the workouts and my buying the step one from her, but when I saw the clips that is a no-go. The step workout music sounded generic and boring, and the choreography didn't look interesting at all.

Lisa, I hope your pain flare has subsided by now and that you can manage not to drown in the pool with that belt thing! That must have been scary.

Rhondalyn, great news on your new resolve and weight loss already this week. Those tickers are tricky. I know I had to delete mine and start over a couple of times before I got mine to work <knock on wood>

I finished the third CLX Push workout today and got a good one. I got a really good workout with Burn Intervals yesterday. It was one of those days when I had to first convince myself just to put my workout clothes on. Then I had to decide what workout I wanted to do, whether to go with the rotation or something different. Then it was the "just do half" mind game. In the end I pushed through the whole thing and felt great afterward. Just one of those days! Okay, this is one of the reason why I am just not crazy about Chalene in general -- those black "workout" boots are just obnoxious!
