Hi Cathe...Happy New Year...I bought 24 of your DVD's to start exercising (why so many because I like variety and you are just lots of fun) anyway long story short...I would like to start with the January rotation you posted...I loaded Imax2 and watched it three times before even atempting to do it myself...but I can not follow you once you start jumping over the step...I loose the leg and don't know what side should I face...I even asked my husband to help me and he didn't know what to tell me (not surprised he is not exactly to coordinated)..I know that you start lets say the exercise with your left leg that would be my right...but once you go over and turn were should I be facing...
Sorry to bother you with this...it may sound to you like I may have a problem (maybe I do and I just realize it with this:) :) :) )...another reason why to be grateful that I found you!!!
I would be very grateful if anybody can help me with my "dilema" on how to follow a class from this side of the screen...since my past experience was always behind the instrustor and it makes it much easier when you just repeat what the person in front is doing.
Thanks in advansce and the best wishes,
Hela

Cathe's right is your right, her left is your left, she mirrors you so that you don't have to constantly think of being on the opposite side of her. I know there are some workouts such as TaeBo that makes it confusing. Billy says go right by I go right he goes to my left (his right). If you notice Cathe wears a hair band on her left arm, this is to remind her that her left is our right which is her filming right.

So when Cathe says start with your right leg, start with your right leg. I am not to sure where exactly on Imax 2 you are talking about because it has been a while since I have done that particular workout. If you are jumping over with a leg put that shoulder front and follow it around. Put your right leg on and lead with your right shoulder. Let your shoulder take you around the step in the jump and your left leg will follow around in the air high enough to clear the step.

Hope that helped!

Hi Melanie...thanks for your help...as you can see I really need help...and an example of my problem would be Interval #9 once she does the first step with her left (our right in front of the TV) and then she goes to an A step and over the step were should we face because I end up on th opposite side than were she is...I am so sorry of such a disfunction on my part....I am new to working out at home...but must say I LOVE CATHE'S DVDS.
I could use a lot of guidance...please help me.

Hela,

It can be very helpful to use the slow motion on your DVD player so that you can watch the move you are having problems with in half time.

Can you be more specific about where you are having trouble? Is it in the warm-up or in which interval?

As the previous person said, when Cathe says right, she means your right. Since she is facing you, the movement on your right leg is done on the right side of the screen.

Another resource that can be helpful is the website Turnstep.com. Go to this address to get a description of many different step moves. http://www.turnstep.com/Moves/index.html

For example, if the over-the-top in interval 1 is messing you up, it is described in both words and illustrations in this website.

Another suggestion which has been given to other people who are having trouble learning a move is to just work on one interval at a time to learn the footwork.

Hope this helps, and that if you need more help, specify what moves you are having trouble with.

Lea

Hela, in interval 9, is it during the A-step that you end up on the wrong side or is it on the ricochet that is done after the A-step? Again, using your slow-motion to watch the movement slowly really helped me to learn moves I was having trouble with.

Lea

Thank you Lea...that website REALLY helps...is a great tool...and I actually have trouble with the ricochet right after the A-step.
I appretiate how helpful you are in this forum...this is the first time I post here...and the first time exercising at home, and I can see already what a good decision a made. :7

If this is the first time you have done Cathe's routines, they will be hard for you. Most of us have followed Cathe for years and when she comes out with a new routine, we are somewhat familiar with the moves. Some routines are easier than others. It will take you time but you will master them. Don't get too discouraged. They are really fun once you figure them out.

Hela,

Regarding the ricochet: With the jumping jack after it, it is done to 8 counts. To learn it, try doing the move on the floor without the step (as you do the move, just imagine where the step is). The first time through, you are on the side of the step near the TV. On count 1, you step up onto the step with your right foot. On count 2, you hop toward your right, turning so that you land on the step facing the opposite direction you were on count 1. On count 3, you tap your left foot on the floor on the side of the step away from the TV. On count 4, you hop toward your left, so that you are again facing the direction you were at the beginning of the move. On count 5 you step off the step toward your left with your left foot, on count 6 you step off the step with your right foot. On counts 7 and 8 you do the jumping jack.

Hope this helps.

Lea

Thanks Lea...it helped...I printed your instructions and asked my husband to read it while I was doing it...any other tips on how to do the videos is really appreciated.

Lea,

That website is super neat!! Thanks for sharing that information!! That is just over the top. Wish I had that link a few years ago when I started Cathe, would of helped a lot.

What I have noticed is practice, practice, practice. Some workouts it takes me a few times before I get the foot work down. Such as the new 4 day cardio/weight that kick step on the step in I think High Step got me for a while. But you keep at it and then one day you are going to get it. Ummm sounds like cathe in Low Impact Circuit on the last carido section.

You know when you do to much Cathe when you can quote a line from a workout and know the exact workout it came from. :p

Melanie, glad the Turnstep.com website is helpful to you. Good info for people who are beginning to learn step routines...

hi, i just want you to know that i don't do the imax videos on fittv because of the jumping over the step. so don't feel bad, you are not alone.:)

Hi Hela,
Whenever I can't figure one of Cathe's step moves out, I usually just make one up! Do basic steps or step jumps instead. Normally she doesn't do the same move for too long anyways. Just do what u can.
