Cathe now everywhere and now QVC

Commercialization is associated with dilution and making decisions driven by considerations of how high the stakes have turned versus a small business.

I dont think the OP grudges or resents Cathe's success.

I think it is possible to commercialize/expand without letting go of core values. Everything about the way Cathe runs her business so far suggests bigger will only mean better.

The production values of Cathe's workouts have rapidly been improving. SNM's use of technology costs money. Expansion is necessary to support staying leading edge.

I am glad Cathe is taking up the opportunities and I see what is happening as reward for her talent and effort, with the added benefit of getting her workouts out to many more people. It will let her innovate and set the bar on quality without budget constraints.

I agree Vee! I cannot tell you the number of times now when I have told people I lift weights with a program at home developed by Cathe Friedrich and their reaction is either 1 - who? or 2 - oh, it's easier than P90X and for "girls." I look forward to Cathe being more widely viewed and able to then use that capital to produce more workouts:D!

I too have worked out with Cathe for many years. Besides becoming incredibly fit, she has also shown me why it is important to be passionate about what you do in life. Through her hard work and dedication, she has taken her dream and made it a reality. To be able to inspire so many, you have to love what you do.

In the meantime, I personally, have had to look for other means to keep myself fit. I still buy the DVDs and have pre ordered the next round. I have yet to do any of them. I'm completely disenchanted with the videos at this point.

i don't understand this. you are disenchanted with the videos because she is advertising commercially now?

STS is top shelf; amazingly produced and a stellar workout program. i hope you get the chance to try it out.

No, I don't feel the same

I don't check this site often but I've been a Cathe fan for 18 years. I am one of the veteran Cathe followers from day 1. I'm sad to see that she has commericialized now. It's very very sad to me. She was my own little jeanie in a dvd. I'm trying not to be selfish. I can't be bitter because she has given so many people so many gifts. In the meantime, I personally, have had to look for other means to keep myself fit. I still buy the DVDs and have pre ordered the next round. I have yet to do any of them. I'm completely disenchanted with the videos at this point. I'm sure I'll circle back and do them. In the meantime, I'm dealing with it the best I can. All the same, I hope she keeps on helping so many!!!!!! She has a great message and communicates it in a way that is not intimidating or disarming.
I'm curious if anyone feels the same?

I'm very pleased for Cathe & her success - she's a class act & deserves to be fabulously successful & filthy rich! Go, Cathe! I wish Oprah would ditch Bob Greene & take the Cathe way to fitness.

Better than P90X

Carrie - I actually think STS beats the pants off of P90X - and that's what I tell people, too. It's got much more variety and a more well-rounded approach, IMO.

As far as QVC, as long as Cathe doesn't go the route of The Firm (I, too, was a preorder at $50 girl), then I'll be okay with it. Although I will say that I do feel like QVC = cheap in many people's estimation (or maybe just mine - I guess I'm a bit of a snob), so I hope the association doesn't cheapen her image. I hate to see companies do that in the name of greater profits.

But otherwise, as long as she stays true to the product(s) she's been delivering, I'm fine with it! She can take on Tony Horton any day!!

If we are admitting to being snobs:p, I will admit that I was more disappointed that Fit by Cathe was being sold by WalMart. I understand it...it is the largest retail outlet in the US...and probably the world. I just don't like WalMart.

their stores in the northeast are very dirty (i've heard the opposite down south)...i cannot shop in a dirty store. however, their prices for fit by cathe are very good online so i will probably pick up her mat (orange being my favorite color) and weighted gloves from them. i have a weighted vest already, but i love the design of cathe's....so i may get that too.

I don't know how to reply

There have been so many interesting replys and I don't know how to respond to each one individually so I'll try here.

Many have said how much they are so thrilled with Cathe's success. I am too. She's a smart business person and I'm excited for her. It is however, a transformation for me. I didn't see her before as an individual creating success for herself. I saw her as my personal trainer. I think that's where a lot of people are having trouble understanding how I feel. She's my "Jillian" from biggest loser and now she's there for the public and I wonder if she has time for me now. I know a lot of you won't get that comment but I'm sure a few will.

Like I said.... I still buy the videos because I know that I'll come back around. What Cathe represents, she keeps her own and she keeps control of it. I have faith in what I've grown to appreciate in her technique and I know that dispite the "commercialism" she will stay true to herself.

Awe.... jeepers I just figured this out. Thank you for your reply. I think out of all of the post replys to my question, you're the only one who really understands. I just wanted to say thanks.

In no way is Cathe selling out. I think it is great that she will be able to touch more peoples lives. Cathe sells what she does and walks the walk.

Did anyone see Stephanie Huckabee on the QVC show the day Cathe was on? She was telling the viewing public she lost weight and those muscles from a band workout. Yeah right. We who know of her know she did more than bands to look the way she looks.

Keep it coming Cathe! We love you!

It sounds like you want to keep the Cathe secret to yourself- like she's your personal trainer and no one else can have her. Well, you can do that. All you have to do is buy 1,000,000 copies of each of her DVDs and she's all yours. She might not enjoy the gilded cage you will be placing her in and the lack of freedom that comes with making business and creative choices that you will force upon her, but I'm sure she'll get over it, right?

What a bizarre post.

Some of you have been a bit harsh (and some very harsh, actually). I am also happy for Cathe and personally I don't think her success has affected the effectiveness of her workouts at all, but I don't see the need to jump down the OP's throat for feeling a bit nostalgic for the old days or regretting a bit of commercialization. It's like when you like a fabulous rock band and then they appear to "sell out." I'm not saying Cathe has sold out, but I understand the sentiment of the OP. I think we should be offering her more hugs than biting comebacks.

And OP, if you must, take a little break from Cathe for a couple months and you may find that you come back and love her workouts just as much or more. Like I said, I get where you're coming from but I think she's still doing fabulous work.

Nicely said Lainie!

There's another thing too - if she's going to be a single mom - NJ is notoriously communally property/split everything, including kids equally, and she could lose half of all she's built....I don't blame her....
The Squeeze girl just went Gaim because its not the money maker it would seem to be independant.....and her stuff is great too....KBWay was financed by Beth and Anthony....its tough to do things on your own, and Cathe has done is so well for so long....I don't blame her....but wish she'd divorce Eggland too!

I know there were some people who were upset with Cathe's decision to partner with EggLand.
Personally, I would do whatever I had to do to make a living. We all have to do what's necessary to thrive in this poor economy. I hope she is successful in whatever she does.
I will continue to purchase her workouts. They are only getting better. STS is by far the best weight lifting program out there.
