This has been making me smile all weekend...
My husband has trouble gaining weight. He knows that he needs to eat more, eat more often and WORK OUT in order to gain weight and muscle, and not just gain a pot belly.
So Saturday night, he's moaning about how he wants to work out BUT doesn't have time to go swimming (his only exercise to date), plus swimming won't build the upper body muscle that he wants. I said, "well, I have some upper body weights tapes you could try, I have all the equipment here at home, I'll preview them with you after dinner. If you'd like, I'll help you get started."
I pulled out Pure Strength Chest/Shoulders/Triceps and said, "we could start with this - Cathe Friedrich is a great instructor and gives lots of form pointers. It's advanced, but you don't have to do all the reps and sets she does. This tape hits the main muscles with multiple exercises, and it's not impossibly long. You'll get a good gym-style workout here at home."
Well, he was STUNNED at the workout - after Cathe and crew did two sets of pushups on an incline, he said, "wow, I don't think I could do that." Then when they moved to the bench for chest presses, he said, "wait, there's MORE? I thought that was it for the chest!" He sat there awestruck as Cathe blasted through multiple exercises, multiple sets. He kept saying, "she just keeps GOING...when does she stop? Can YOU do this tape all the way through?" [Me: "yes, babe."]
Bottom line: he's promised me he'll give the PS series a try this week, with me acting as personal trainer/motivator and helping on his form. AND he's gained new appreciation for "home workouts" - I don't know what he thought I was doing when he saw me schlepping my 40# barbell and heavy dumbbells into the living room, but obviously he never understood how challenging weights workouts can be in your own home!
