Hi Cathe,
Ich habe am 10 Januar die selbe Frage gestellt wie donnamarie, aber leider habe ich keine Antwort bekommen.Ich weiss sie sind sehr beschaeftig. Finde es total super das Sie ihre Kinder deutsch und americaisch aufziehen. Ich bin aus Nuernberg und habe zwei erwachsen Kinder . 18 und 21 Jahre.Die sprechen auch deutsch und americanisch. Mein Mann ist in der Army seit 26 Jahre. Ich lebte die meiste Zeit in Deutschland. Meine Tochter (21) trainiert regelmaessig mit mir. Ich bin seit 2 Jahren in den USA und habe viel zugenommen. Hoffe das ich alles wieder herunterbekomme mit ihrer Hilfe.Ich besitze schon 34 DVD. Ich habe November, Dezember und bin gerade dabei Januar rotation zu machen Ich moechte Ihenn Damken fuer alles was sie tun. Ohne ihrer hilfe und motivtation wuerde ich das Gewicht nicht runterbekommen. Ich bekomme Muskeln , die ich nie hatte. Auch meine alte Jeans passen nicht mehr. Ich habe mich schon vor 7 Jahren gewundert ob Cathe Deutsch spricht oder ob sie deutsche Abstammung ist. Ich war auch total ueberrascht! Ich war noch nie so dick wie jetzt, nicht mal in meiner Schwangerschaft. Im Oktober 06 dachte ich ,mich haut es um als ich auf die Wage ging. Ich habe 50 lb zugenommen, ich bin nur 5.1 . Ich habe regemaessig einen Schwimmreifen um meinen Bauch., ha,ha. Ich hoffe bis Ende dieses Jahr werde ich meine alte Kleidergroesse wieder haben. In Deutschland bin ich viel rennen gegangen. Habe nie auf Diaet geachtet. Seit wir hier in El Paso sind ,konnte ich durch die Affenhitze nicht mehr rennen. Bekomme leider keine Luft. Bin halt auch nicht mehr die Juenste! Ich werde dieses Jahr 44 Jahre. Ich hoffe doch irgendwann mal wieder anzufanngen zu rennen? Ich hoffe durch Cathes rotation schaffe ich es

I was woundering 7 years ago if Cathe spoke german or is german. I was supriced,too.
I never been so out of shape ( beeing so fat!),than I am now. Not even after my kids.In October I went on a scale and couldn,t believe my eyes. I gained 50 lb. I had floating tire around my behind, ha,ha. In Germany I always went ranning! I never on a diat. Since we are here in El Paso I can't ran anymore. because fo the heat. I'm not young anymore. This year I'm turning 44 year. I hope one day I start ranning again. Hopefully with Cathe's rotation I will lose the weight.

Ich laufe gerne aber ich kann total verstehen warum es so schwer ist wegen der Luftfeuchtigkeit bei uns. Hier in New Jersey ist es auch sehr schwuehl im Sommer. Mann muss ja ganz frueh aufstehen. Ich habe noch 20 pfund zu verlieren. Kopf hoch! Wir werden es schaffen. :)

hier ist es das Gegenteil es ist nicht schwuehl hier. El Paso ist sehr trocken. Die Temperaturen erreichen hier 118 degree! Sehr heiss, viele Leute starben letztes Jahr an der Hitze. Die hatten keine Klimaanlage oder nicht mal einen Fan. Gott sei Dank habe ich Klimaanlage im Hause. Die Pfunde sind 2 Jahre ingefressen da kann ich auch nicht verlangen das sie in 2 Monaten wieder herunter kommen. Cathy kann ich du sagen? Ich bin das Sie sagen nicht mehr gewohnt? Wie lange sind sie schon in NJ/ Habe gehoert soll recht schon sein? Wir sind noch in der Military weiss nicht wo wir uns mal nieder lassen. Mir gefaellt El Paso nicht. Ware zu lange in Deutschland stationiert. Ich wuenschte ich haette nur noch 20 Pfund abzunehmen. Meinen Glueckwunsch zu deinen Erfolg!!! Das Abnehmen brauht hat seine Zeit! Man, muss nur Geduld haben. Wir Deutschen haben sowieso keine, ha, ha.

Natuerlich darfst du du sagen. :) Ach so, Ihr habt ungefaehr so ein Wetter wie Phoenix. Bei uns ist die Luftfeutigkeit im Sommer immer sehr schlimm. Oftmals, kann mann nicht lange draussen bleiben. Und natuerlich geht es ohne Klimaanlage nicht. Ja, mann muss Geduld haben. Ich habe auch nicht viel! Ich bin in NJ geboren...fast 33 Jahre. Meine Eltern und schwester kommen aus Deutschland - mein Vater von Bremerhaven; meine Mutter von Flatow, in der naehe Berlin's. Es gefaellt mir sehr gut mit jemand dem in Deutsch zu unterhalten.

I apologise for making everybody feel like an outsider due to us writing in german, but I was really excited to hear that cathe is fluent in my native tongue. Thank you so much for the encouragement!

I think Catherine was kidding. I sure hope no one took offense! :) I just enjoyed having someone to chat in German with, and although I knew Cathe was German, I didn't realize she spoke the language, either. Very cool!

I don't speak German but I graduated from Newberry College which is Lutheran as well as a Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in South Carolina. I even did an internship at Macedonia Lutheran Church in Prosperity, SC. Where I live at one was heavily populated by Germans and descendants (now it is sooo surburban!!) . Sorry I don't speak German though! But my other half is part German and Dutch! But I just had to respond. Annette

This is a fun thread! I live in a small German community in Michigan called Frankenmuth. My son attends the Lutheran school and German language class is mandatory through 8th grade. We also still have German church service every Sunday where the whole service is in German. Not many attend any more - they are all dying out but I think it is wonderful that the church still gives them time to worship in their native language. Also every year we have a German heritage service and the whole school (500 kids) and families attend and the entire service except for the serman is done in German. The kids do the Lords prayer in German. On Christmas Eve we sing the second verse of Silent Night in German. The church is the biggest Lutheran church in the Missouri Synod. Holds about 1300. It has 3000 members - the town population is 4600. Needless to say we have a Bavarian Festival, Oktoberfest, Musicfest (polka) etc. When couples are married they do a tradition at midnight called "Sie Lieben Hoch" (live life high)where they lift you up in chairs and sing and then carry you to the bar to swig beer!

I take it Friedrich is Cathe's maiden name? Or maybe her DH is German too. Lutheran?

I remember a member of our "married into" relatives used to bring this to family dinners. My Italian family didn't know what to think of it but I liked it!!!!!! I just don't know what it is called.

Anyone?
 
Speaking of food: Dave makes this wonderful dish with a pie crust, potatoes, ham and cheese. I don't know the name of it but it does have German orgins.

At Seminary we did have an Octoberfest complete with German Beer etc. One year a seminarian dressed up as St. Pauli's Girl....

When Cardinal Ratzinger became Pope Benedict 16th, it so happened we had kraut and sausage day, just by chance. Speaking of the Pope, before he was Cardinal Ratzinger was the driving force behind the ecumenical talks between Catholics/Lutherans.
