Cardio and Weights

I preordered the pyramid workouts. Then I heard how much people were loving Bootcamp, so I ordered that DVD and it will be here tomorrow. I wanted Muscle Endurance anyway. Now I'm hearing all these rave reviews about Cardio and Weights. Before I wind up ordering this one too, I could use some input.

I've never done Cathe step aerobics because I can't follow choreography. It's like learning foreign languages, my brain just won't go there. Any chance I could follow this one?

Of course the IMAX on that DVD will go completely unused, so the other workout really has to be worth the price of two for me to get it.

Having said that, does anyone dare to recommend this to me? }(

If you get it, just do the step sections on the floor. You will have such a good time! Try the IMax that way too! It's not as complicated as it looks.

question: why will the Imax 2 go unused?!?!?!?!?

I think Cardio and Weights' choreography is extremely do-able, not at all complicated like Rhythmic Step. In fact, I'll go ahead and say it's real easy.

I love this workout. I use it once a week right now, especially on days when I am feeling particularly depressed. I put it on and fly over my step with that first song, "you want this party started right?", I sing my heart out with it.

Cardio and weights is a feel-good video! The core work at the end is rigorous. Yes indeed. The weights work for the upper body is thorough enough and you can make this work for you by going as heavy as you can. It'll keep your heart rate up between cardio segments more.

Personally I am so glad I have this tape in my collection, it's a keeper because I work out and it makes me feel happy, just as R-Step always does. What more can you ask for?

Question again: so why will the Imax 2 go unused?!?!?!?!?!?!

Hey Clare-

I was assuming that for someone whose brain is choreography-challenged that Cathe step workouts are out of the question, except for maybe this Cardio and Weights one which some people seem to think is a bit easier.

Also, you may remember that I don't do high impact. Guess I should have mentioned that in my original post as well. I just can't stand the feeling of my flesh bobbing up and down, and it doesn't seem worth the joint problems that can ensue. I've never seen the IMAX workouts, but I assume they are the worst offenders when it comes to all of these factors. That's why I assume these IMAX workouts are not my tasse de tea.

Hi Nancy,

I need to take it easy on my joints due to the effects of some chemo drugs I was on a few years back. I love IMAX 2. I just simply modify a lot of the higher impact moves (i.e. bring airborne jacks down to regular jacks or heel jacks). Some of the jump-turn type of movements (like over and backs) I modify if I feel like I might compromise my knee. I do simple lunges or run in place, anything to keep my heart rate up. I'm still working up quite a sweat by doing this. Don't let your tapes go to waste. At least view them and see if you can modify. I sure everyone will agree when I say there are a lot of us who modify the high impact! But, you know your body best.

Enjoy your DVDs.

Hi! I'm fairly new to Cathe, but I have this tape, and the first time I got it out, I put it up after 20 min, very disgusted.

I consider myself choreo challenged too.. Which is why I ordered Wedding tape for the easier choreo. I have done that one several times and am loving it and picking it up some, so I got C & W back out, and it was much easier to follow, but still not what I would call easy. I suppose you're going to get many opinions here and it's going to be hard to decide :) I think it's somewhat high impact, (but again, I'm probably not the best judge), it has great music and is fun, but I stand there w/the remote rewinding several times.. I'm sure I'll get it, but it will take a few more times.

I'm wondering more about the impact level. I am kinda thinking you might not like it, but I really kinda hate to say that too, you know?

Hope I helped some :)

Nancy, I have to interject and say that I don't think Cardio and Weights is easy to master. For someone used to doing Cathe's step, then it's a piece of cake, but she goes right into up and backs, over face-in overs, drop squats, etc. If you aren't familiar with these moves, then you're left to stand there going, 'huh?' so I think it just isn't the one to start with. But if you do know the moves then it is fun fun fun! I wish I didn't have to take a rest day, just so I could do it again!

I did C&W for the first time yesterday, and I have to admit, it tok me longer to get the choreography down. I think it's just a lack of familiarity, and as much as I love Cathe, a couple of times she either doesn't set up a move or sets up the *wrong* move. Well, our Wonder Woman is allowed mistakes :). I wondered why it wasn't edited out of the workout.

I really don't like the "Build Me Up Buttercup" segment. It's boring and endless, and there's *nothing* in the world that will ever make me like it. I substituted the first cardio section of 10-10-10 and had a wonderful workout.

I seriously considering purchasing Upper & Lower Body Pyramid next.

Oh my gosh! I can't get that song out of my head. "Build Me Up Buttercup!" This is THE MOST fun I have ever had doing a workout. I really had a blast. It put me in the best mood, and if I ever have a day when I just don't feel like working out, I'm popping this puppy in my DVD player!

I've just started doing Cathe and, was brand new to step about a month ago and was very confused at first. It just took a bit of practice and I have all her moves down now. I was able to pick up the steps in this workout the first time because of practicing her other ones for the past month.

I am in the best mood right now, because I just finished C& W!!!

Kathy and Jilly-
I really do appreciate your honest opinions on this. I'm definitely going to hold off getting this IS workout.

Meanwhile, I finally tried my first IS video today: Pyramid Lower Body. I hate to say it, but I was not too impressed. I like the moves, which are strong and simple, but I don't think the basic concept of using a barbell for fast pyramiding works. I felt like I was expending as much energy changing the plates as I was doing the exercises. The stability ball stuff looks great though, and I can't wait to try it when my ball gets here on Friday.

Sorry to hear you say that - it's my favorite section of C&W! Isn't it funny how different people are!?! But that's what makes life interesting! Have fun! (And yes that song is catchy - I've been singing Pina Colada for 4 days now!)

Jilly,

I don't know if you were replying to me or to Kimba, but I love the Build Me Up ButterCup segment! I was singing it in the shower after my workout!! Hee-Hee!! I LOVED IT!!

RE: CLARE AND NANCY......

Crikey, Clare, you sing along to Cardio and Weights ?????? I take my hat off to you, I can only manage to wiggle my hips and strut my funky stuff !!!!!!!!!! :7

Anyway, Nancy, this workout is alot easier than recent step workouts of Cathe, I would try it on the floor to begin with, until you get used to it. You can still get a good floor workout with it :) I felt though like I was doing dance routines in a club, because they are repeated over and over in each step segment, if that makes any sense ?

You will love it !

The Build Me Up Butter Cup segment reminded me of the ending of "Something About Mary" I just love that song! :D

I was replying to Kimba - I'm glad you like it too! I know that not everyone can like the same music, choreography, etc. I was just surprised that Kimba didn't care for that segment as I have noticed from other posts that we have very similar tastes. But that's what makes life interesting - the fact that we are all different! I was singing Buttercup last night and my husband asked me if I had just watched "There's Something About Mary," and I said, "Nope - just doing Cardio and Weights!" I think he thinks I do drugs.

Kimba...

where did you notice a "wrong" move on C&W? I must be blind...I have done the workout once and I guess I was either sweating too much or having too much fun to notice! }(

In what section is it?

Blessings from our home to yours...Runathon

Hee-Hee!

That's hilarious!! My BF stopped to watch me and said he's happy I'm having so much fun. He said he was really impressed. He's never watched me do Cathe before. When it was over, we were both singing that song.

RE: Kimba...

It was during the step segment with the Elvis tune I believe. She calls one move and does something totally different. Bear with me, because it's only the second time I've done the tape. I think she tell you to do a leg extension off the step and does something completely different or vice versa. I'll have to watch it again to tell you the exact move. I

RE: Kimba...

I noticed this too, but it's like the 3rd or 4th time repeating the segment, so it's obvious what step really comes next, so it's not that noticeable.

:)

RE: Kimba...

I noticed it but I have to agree that after repeating the routine several times it was not hard to ignore it. They use that segmentin the Terminater series as well.
