Bringing up the Rear Check-In

Me too GS is my favorite series they all get you good, especially with the band bonus burns! I'm feeling my biceps and forearms today...maybe I need to up my weights for shoulders :p

My hip is actually bothering me today too, is yours better? I wonder if it's all the band work I've been doing this week or maybe I did something funky with the KB swings. My hip gets weird a lot, I have one leg that's a bit shorter and it throws everything off and I think my pelvis/hip area is effected the most-tight hip flexors and less mobility. I'm going to skip tonight and try tomorrow and Sunday...we'll see I always have good intentions but sometimes it's hard to get a w/o in on the weekend.

No I don't have any of the HC workouts, do you have to hold poses for a long time I have ADD? :D

I wonder what they're doing on the road trip right now!

Hi ladies! Just a quick checkin with you while we are on break before dinner. Friday night our first class was mostly kickboxing cardio with upper body conditioning at the end. After dinner, we had a yoga/stretch class and Q&A afterwards. Cathe mentioned she is thinking about her next series which might be a shorter version of STS but she isn't fully committed to that idea yet to officially announce it.

Today our first class was all cardio mix of high and low. The second class was like cardio leg blast but without as much high impact since the floor there was concrete with thin carpet over it. We just finished our last class for today and it was all upper body with only 10 minutes of core at the end (YEA!)

I did get to meet Cathe a few times. I got my picture with her once by myself and once with DH. I also got her autograph on one of the pictures from last year's calendar. She is as nice in person as everyone says. So weird how down to earth she is.

I will post pictures and post more later (Monday maybe?).
 
Hi Julie! That sounds like so much fun; I looked at some of the pictures that were posted and everyone looks like they are having a great time, Cathe looks great! Anyone else from the crew there?

Yay I hope she decides to do the shorter version of STS that would be awesome!

Yesterday I did Z Strength #8, some tricep work, goblet squats and raised GBs.

Today I did GS Legs, my glutes and hamstrings were burning during the floor work!

Thanks for sharing your great pictures Julie! I second Carolyn and want to hear all about it, did you have a great time, would you do it again, what was your favorite part??? Looked like a lot of fun!

I also love that you had Cathe sign your dumbbells, awesome!

Today I did ZCardio #9, goblet squats, raised gbs, and bicep work. I had some nice DOMS for GS Legs yesterday.

No workout this morning. I haven’t decided if I am going to take the rest of this week off and start up on the weekend or if I am going to work out tonight. I have been thinking about changing my workouts to evenings for a while so I might give it a try this week and see what happens.

Ok, girls, here is more on the road trip. It was a lot of fun. I would definitely do it again. I thought it would be awkward working out in front of so many people but it actually seemed natural. I thought for sure I would be self-conscious about not being able to keep up or not doing the moves right. There were times I noticed I was on the wrong lead or going the wrong way but I just corrected it and moved on. I doubt anyone around me even noticed.

I did meet quite a few ladies but I can’t say I know what their names on the forums are. I did get to meet Mary from totalfitnessdvds.com. Not sure if you have ever ordered from her. I haven’t but I have heard of her from my lurking on videofitness. There was also 1 guy who did the workouts. I think he was there with his wife/girlfriend.

I also bought some firewalkers and bands while I was there. I had read that Cathe is clearing out her stock of fitness products so I wanted to get some of those before she ran out. Plus this way I didn’t have to pay for shipping and they were marked down a little. I also bought 2 shirts. I looked at the Feel Fit Wear since they had a booth but it was super expensive. I can’t believe some people were buying several items at $40 a piece!

During the Q&A session, I did ask Cathe a question. I asked her how she managed to get through filming the workout without stopping to get a drink or adjust her ponytail because I on the other hand am pausing to get a drink, catch my breath, or just tell her that no I don’t have my band ready yet. She said that they work really hard to make sure that the workouts look like one continuous shot but it can actually take several hours to film one workout. She says that when they do take a break, after they come back, they actually start from several minutes before they break so that they are a little out of breath again once they get to the part they need to pick up re-filming from. I found that pretty interesting.

I think I mislead you. Those pink dumbbells were not mine. I was standing in line to get Cathe’s autograph and saw someone bring those to her and thought it was a cute idea. If I ever get to meet Cathe again, I may look into buying those and having her sign them. I saw someone else bring a pink boxing glove for Cathe to sign. I am not that creative. I had her sign a picture from last year’s calendar and then also sign my name badge from the roadtrip.

I think the best part was the workouts. It seemed like during those times, I could just let go and relax and enjoy myself. I am quite introverted so while I had fun at the dinners, those were not quite as relaxing as the workouts.

Let me know if you have other questions. It was definitely a great experience and I would recommend trying to go to one if you can.

P.S. Thanks for the a$$ comment. I think that picture just happened to catch a good angle as I was squeezing it there. It is a little more saggy when I don't flex. That's sounds weird!:confused:
 
Julie-I'm sure you could use a rest week or at least a couple of days after that marathon weekend!

Working out in the evenings is okay; I prefer the mornings but with my earlier hours I'm not getting up at 4:00a.m. to work out before getting ready. I felt like I had more energy during the day and felt good to have it done before going to work but evenings will have to do for me. Let me know what you think if you try them Julie.

Carolyn that would be so cool to go to a road trip with your daughter some day!

Today I did the trampoline, Arnold and landmine presses, rear delt raises, gbs, band hip abduction and Stretch Max.

Last night I did end up working out because really what was I thinking that I could actually rest. Someday I wish I could listen to my body and do that. I am getting better though because I did a shorter premix instead of a full hour workout. I did Bootcamp everything but the core premix. After that I took the dogs for a walk and by the time I got out of the shower I still had 3 hours before I had to go to bed. I did like getting my workout done first thing in the morning but it was kind of nice having so much time last night with the dogs and DH.

Carolyn That would be so awesome if you could go on a roadtrip with your daughter. I love that she works out with you sometimes. You are setting a great example for her. I agree that sleep is precious. I do love to sleep.

Amanda I saw that picture on Facebook. I was pretty surprised to scroll through and be like “oh wait that’s me!” I know what you mean. Working out first thing in the morning did seem to energize me for the day. I think I am going to give the afternoon workouts a go for a while. I actually felt like a normal person going to bed at 9 last night instead of 6:30.

I'm taking a rest day too, my calves are sore and have been all week I think GS legs and then must have been really pushing down through my heels doing the raised gb's on Monday, more gb's yesterday and still sore....so time to take a rest day. I took a walk with Andrew and one of my dogs.

Julie what time did you used to get up to workout in the morning? I would totally be doing evenings too if mornings meant going to bed at 6:30!

So last night when I was coming home, I was about a mile away from home when my temperature gauge went in the red and my dash said something about check coolant a/c turned off to protect engine. When I pulled in the garage, my car was smoking. DH and the neighbor looked at it and something busted causing my coolant to leak everywhere. So this morning DH is having the car towed to the mechanic where hopefully it will not cost me an arm and a leg to fix. While all this was happening last night, I kept thinking, this is why I work out in the morning so in case something like this happens at night. Well, good news is it didn’t interfere with my workout and I was able to do Circuit Blast. Still sticking with evening workouts for now.

Carolyn Yeah, I wouldn’t consider 5 am sleeping in but I guess compared to 3:15 am it was. I hope you enjoyed your rest day and your knee is doing better. I understand about needing that mental boost from working out. I think that is why it is hard for me to take rest days.

Amanda Oh boy GS Legs has a killer calf section. I always have calf DOMS for days after doing that one. The walk sounds lovely. We are finally getting some nice weather so hoping I can start taking the dogs for walks after my evening workouts. I was getting up at around 3:15 to work out which is why I was going to bed at 6:30. That and I just don’t sleep well, so even if I am in bed for 8 hours, I probably average 6-6 ½ hours sleep. So annoying!

Wow 3:15 is super early!!!!!

Carolyn I really like the floor work too in GS Legs the rollouts always get me! I really feel my glutes with the ball work.

No workout last night. Went and picked up my car. We were lucky in that it was just one piece (some type of plastic elbow connector) that needed to be replaced. Less than $100 for the part. Of course labor was almost 3 times that but it still worked out to be much cheaper than I was expecting. Probably no workout tonight either. I am starting month 7 of Get Glutes tomorrow morning so I want to be rested up for it.

Carolyn Oh yes the floor work of GS Legs is pretty brutal. Enjoy spinning!

Saturday I did started month 7 of Get Glutes. Then DH and I ran some errands including a new radiator for his Jeep. That took forever. I think around 3 hours! Sunday I did Get Glutes and then DH and I had a nice breakfast before going to his nephew’s 1st birthday party.

Carlyon The core in BC is about the only core I don’t mind. Usually I am hating core and skipping it. Oh boy did this weekend go by fast! I hope you found some nice glute DOMS!

No workout yesterday. I am really trying to follow Get Glutes and just do the 4 strength workouts. Let’s see how long I can last without cardio. Anyway, last night as I was pulling into the driveway, I noticed it was snowing! We got about a half inch which is not a lot and it didn’t stick to the roads but still. Plus this weekend was beautiful in the 60s and 70s and now we have a high of 32 today. I think someone forgot to tell Mother Nature it is mid-April and she can stop being such a cold b*tch!

Carolyn It’s nice to have those lazy days. Yes our mechanic was loving us last week. Like this cold weather, I am hoping that was the last of our car problems for a long time.

We had a beautiful 80 degree day on Saturday and rain Sunday. ..... yesterday was about an inch off snow :(
Today only 30 I can't take it anymore!
Yesterday I did shoulders and abs. I joined Zuzka's Z gym, It's $10/month and you get three new workouts a week, this month she's doing a 30 day glute challenge so that's what tipped me over the edge to joining. :)

The first w/o was goblet squats to squat jumps for 4 sets then kb swings, one leg deadlifts, kb swings, courtesy lunge with kb pass through and kb swings, then repeat for a second round. It was good. Today's is bodyweight I'll let you know how that one goes later.
I really like her w/os they're fast but tough. I've been getting some good results so far with doing them and some strength training afterwards.
