Bringing up the Rear Check-In

This morning I did Get Glutes. I was sound asleep when my alarm went off. Usually I am in that almost awake mode but this morning it was like I was sleeping death I was so deeply asleep. I didn’t want to get up but I did. I did make some gains in my workout but it was like trudging through mud. I think I might try to go to bed a little early tonight.

Carolyn I’m excited you’re giving Strong Curves another go. I really like the workouts Bret comes up with but I know it is not everyone’s cup of tea. I don’t have the book here at work but I think what you are saying is right. He set up the routines to be 3 workouts but he does recommend you do them 4 times a week. So if you only wanted to do them 3 times a week, you would do the 2nd workout on day 3 not day 2. I think you will get better results if you work your glutes as many days as possible. I have also found no problems with doing 2 full body workouts back to back. Good luck!

Amanda I completely forgot to check out the You Tube videos for Zuzka this last weekend. :eek: Need to remember to do that.

Today I did Z strength #6, CTX shoulders and KB swings.

Carolyn-Yes I've heard of Nia and get her emails too. I haven't read the latest one I'll have to take a look. I know what you mean about feeling like you have to push it-I do too. I usually feel pretty good after a w/o sometimes a little tired but never exhausted!

I think I found out about Nia through Bret, and Jen Sinkler I occasionally read/watch her stuff too.

Today I woke up about 15 minutes before my alarm went off and was so mad!! I couldn't believe it was already time to get up. Going to try to go to bed early tonight.

This morning I woke up not very excited about my scheduled workout, KickMax. So while I was getting ready to workout, I decided that I was going to do something fun instead. I did Imax 2. That hit the spot. It was fun and energizing and I was full of smiles and a bright red face by the end. Funny how something so simple as a workout can cheer you up!

Carolyn I completely understand and still struggle with this. In fact, I think Bret’s programs skimp big time on upper body so I add 1-2 chest/push exercises and 2-4 back/pull exercises to most of his workouts. I can logically understand what Nia and Bret are saying but I struggle with putting it into practice, so I compromise by only adding 10-20 minutes and changing most of the straight sets into supersets to up the intensity. Not saying that my way is right over Bret and Nia but it is helping ease me into the less is more mode.

Amanda I hate when that happens. Actually it happened to me this morning. I woke up about 18 minutes before the alarm went off and thought “quick, go back to sleep”. Of course, that does not help because I am happily drifting off to sleep just as the alarm goes off and then it makes it harder to get out of bed. I should just get up when that happens but I never learn.

Today I did Z cardio #7, Z ab bonus both rounds, weighted GBs, FT firewalkers and I maybe made up an exercise :D I did raised GB with a band around my knees and at the top of the movement I did a abduction.

Yay tomorrow's Friday! Almost the Road Trip Julie!

Yesterday was busy at work so I didn’t get a chance to post. I did do Get Glutes yesterday morning and this morning. So happy it is the weekend and it is supposed to be 64 today!!!! Tomorrow DH and I are going to try to do some Spring cleaning. I know I am a dork because I am very excited about that.

Carolyn I think you will see great results if you put SC before the other workouts. Doing that will mean you can give it your all before tuckering out. The road trip is actually in 2 weeks but it is getting close. The introvert in me is starting to go “what were you thinking?”

Amanda I like your made up exercise. Sounds like you get all the glutes that way. Might have to give that one a try.

Saturday I did To the Max Extreme. Then DH and I cleaned and organized for the rest of the morning and afternoon. I got my panty and some closets cleaned and organized. Still have more to do but got a good start. Sunday I did Get Glutes and then was lazy the rest of the day. Figured I deserved that after TTM Extreme and all that cleaning.

Amanda I was so excited it was Friday. Now it is Monday all over again. How come the week goes by so slow and the weekend goes by so fast.

Carolyn That is awesome that you ate clean all week. I am usually good Monday through Friday and then tank on the weekend. I say if you felt good, you certainly could do your next SC workout instead of resting.

This morning I did Get Glutes. Mother Nature has decided that even though we are now 4 days past Spring that we still needed more snow. We got less than an inch but the roads were pretty slick this morning.

Carolyn Bret doesn’t specify how to rotate the workouts but I think what you are doing is probably right. At least that is the way I would do it. It would get boring to do workout A so much.

This morning I did Kick Punch Crunch without the Crunch so I guess it was just Kick Punch today. It’s only Wednesday and I am already wishing it was Friday.

This morning I did Get Glutes. This week has been going terribly slow. I don’t know if I am just anxious for the road trip next week or what it is but I can’t believe it is not the weekend yet.

Carolyn I hope your knee is doing better today. Good job for laying off the HiiT work. That may have irritated it more.

Friday I forgot to post but I did do my last workout for month 6 of Get Glutes. That has been my favorite month so far and I was a little sad to be done with it. Saturday I did Afterburn Double Trouble premix and then ran some errands, shampooed my carpet, and gave 3 dogs baths. Sunday I did X10 in its entirety. I would be lying if I said I did it straight through with no breaks. I took several breaks. I think the step and hi/lo portions are the hardest. It wore me out so much that I was exhausted and had to take a lazy day the rest of Sunday and a rest day today.

Carolyn Oh no! I hope you got over the headache and stomach pains quickly. Those are no fun. Hope you had a wonderful weekend.

Amanda Oooo! Lower Body Blast is a surprisingly good and tough workout. I am starting to get excited and a little nervous.

This morning I did my own scrambled Tabatacise premix. I did it in the order of 1, 4, 5, 2, 3. I know it is not a fair comparison but X10 is way harder than Tabatacise. Of course, I realize X10 in its entirety is almost twice as long as Tabatacise but still.

Carolyn Bummer about your weekend. Those kind make me feel like I didn’t even get a weekend. I didn’t experience DOMS with SC or Get Glutes but I know it is working because I can see subtle differences. I think Bret has said that when you work the same body part more often through the week that you will not get DOMS like when you only work them once or twice a week. Hope your knee is feeling better.

Speaking of DOMS I had some after Lower Body Blast the other day...still do! Maybe I should pull that one out more often :D

Yesterday I did shoulders, triceps, GB, banded hip abductions and abs.

Today I was going to do ZCardio but I have a killer headache and can't imagine all the high impact will help....maybe I'll do some glute activation and stretching tonight.

This morning I did CrossFire. I have been ramping up my workouts to be more cardio/metabolic/hiit the last week in preparation for the road trip. And then this morning I was thinking that I haven’t really done any core work (um … not surprising since I hate core work). But I assume Cathe is going to have core work at the road trip. I may have a whole world of core DOMS this weekend waiting for me.

Carolyn GG is as long as you want to make it. If I did it as written it would probably be around 45 minutes but I tend to add on extra upper body which puts me around 60 minutes. I am about 2 ½ hours away from Lake Geneva.

Amanda I wouldn’t want to do high impact with a headache either. My plan is to get there at noon or as close as possible. Registration starts at noon and the first class is at 3. I’m hoping I can get an early check in so I can settle into the room before having to rush to the first class.

Yay just one more day of work for you Julie and then you get to meet Cathe so cool!!! I bet it will be a blast...I wonder how the workouts will be, have you ever done w/o in a group setting? I haven't I've always been a w/o at home girl, I wonder what it's like...

Carolyn sorry to hear about your knee that sucks! I prefer GS Legs to LBB but it was good to mix it up and get some DOMS!

This morning I decided to a short heavy lifting workout since I haven’t lifted weights since last Friday. I just did some hip thrusts, bench press, squats, sumo deadlifts, and overhead presses. I also did negative pullups for the first time ever and they are hard. We had pretty loud thunderstorms this morning. My poor Maggie hates thunder and always looks for a place to hide. She found a place while I was working out; the closet in my workout room where I keep my weights (see attached picture, black dogs are so hard to photo).

Carolyn A tight IT band or hip flexor could definitely be causing your knee issues. I hope the foam rolling helps.

Amanda I have never done a live class before; only home workouts. I think that is one reason I am so nervous. I won’t be able to hide my two left feet in front of so many people!

I probably won’t get to post until Monday. We’ll see what kind of time I have in between classes and how good the internet connection at the hotel is. I will definitely try to give my best recap of the road trip and share any pictures. Ooooh! That reminds me I need to add my camera to my packing list! Have a great weekend!
