Bracing for Isabelle?

We are preparing here in Savannah, Ga. just in case it doesn't turn. Very frightning storm. I'm in the insurance business too so it hits me twice! Hope she just moves out to sea....Janice

I live 3 hours inland in central NC. I've endured 3 hurricanes in the past 15 years or so, and several ice storms of note. But this one is the scariest as far as how it's shaping up. I expect a mess.

I am saying a prayer for all of you, I live in S. Louisiana, last year we got hit with a hurricane and tropical storm within two weeks of each other, luckily, neither ended up being too bad. It scared me half to death since I am originally from San Antonio! Anyway, I hope it keeps turning north and misses the coast entirely. Please, be safe everyone! If they advise you to evacuate, do it. Better safe than sorry, right?

I am in southeast PA, just outside Philly. I'm expecting some nasty weather no matter where it hits on the East coast. I've only seen the effects of one hurricane shortly after I moved here and that was Floyd. We had serious flooding from that one and Isabel is quite a bit bigger than Floyd was! I'm not looking forward to it but I must say that having grown up in the Midwest, I still have a greater fear of tornadoes. At least with this hurricane we know it may hit and have time to do what we can to prepare. Everyone batten down and take care!
 
Yes, that's what I like about hurricanes, you get a lot of warning about where they are going to hit. Sometimes it's worse or better than you thought, but it's not like a tornado or earthquake. And they aren't as destructive either. Buildings rarely collapse. You lose power, trees come down, low-lying areas flood. All these things are fine in a few days unless it's a real doozie. So, if you have some safe water, unperishable food and something to do, you just deal with it. June through October it's just something that can happen.
 
I live in the D.C area in MD. I am most worried about my portable classroom (basically a metal box) being carried off to OZ with 10 years worth of my materials inside it!

I also worry about my horse - will he be safe? There is a place for him and his friends to run into and hide but I still worry. I hope they have the sense to come in out of the storm.

I just cancelled a trip to Charleston, SC for a work-related conference that was Wednesday - Friday. I hadn't even been thinking about it until dh mentioned the hurricane...I certainly hope it doesn't hit hard and I hope everyone is as prepared as they can possibly be. I'll be thinking of you.

I live in southern VA, about an hour north of VA Beach and very close to the Chesapeake Bay. It looks like it's now heading to the NC coast and has slowed down a bit, but with the ground as wet as it is here, I'm sure there will be a ton of trees down and thus no power for a while. At least it's not winter and we won't freeze!

Actually, I like it better when the power goes down in winter, because the food can be put outside to stay cold, and I can turn on kerosene heaters to stay warm, cook with a camp stove, etc. In the summer, all the food becomes disgusting and it's so hot and humid ;(
 
I live in eastern NC about 1 1/2 away from the coast and we are a little frantic around here. I guess b/c of Hurricane Floyd a few years ago flooded about half of the county and we were stranded for days. Not to mention, we didn't have electricity for a few days. My husband went out and bought a generator b/c it is likely that if it hits this area (and they are forecasting it will) trees will tumble. It has been so wet in this area.

Its a shame that no store in the area (Walmart, Kmart, Eckerd, etc) does not have anymore "D" batteries. Luckly, my husband bought all our batteries a couple of nights ago.

It's really ironic b/c it was around the same time in 1999 that Hurricane Floyd devastated this area.

It's funny that before my husband went out and bought the generator over the weekend, I told him we needed one. I told him that we needed to make sure one of the things we plugged into the generator would be the TV. He said definitely b/c we need to keep up with weather reports. I told him we had the radio for that, I need to do my videos:)
