Boy, 7, breaks into zoo, feeds animals to croc

I really thought hard about posting this b/c it's Friday and we've had a lot of negative stuff going on here. I was just so outraged that I couldn't help myself. I can't believe that this boy will not face any consequences for his horrendous actions  I mean how many more innocent animals will have to pay the price before he comes of age. I know that I do not have all of the facts regarding his parents and how they feel about what he has done but I must admit that I do not have much faith in whether or not they really care. What were they doing during the time that their 7 year old son was able to commit this horrible crime?

Sorry I'm getting carried away...just a bit passionate I guess

I saw that. CRAZY! I have an 8 year old and he would NEVER do anything like that. Kinda scary really. Don't serial killers start by killing animals when they are young?

Man, I really hope they stick it to the parents!!! They already said they can't do anything to the boy, but I think those parents should have to pay somehow. They should have to pay for every one of those animals - you break it, you pay. And the son should be sent to a psychiatrist. He's obviously psycho!

no remorse or understanding

Of what he had done is what people will say. But, you have got to keep in mind that the blatant disregard for life is a hall mark of future criminals. I would be really surprised if this was the first time he had harmed other living creatures and I would never leave him alone with other children. It is a little known fact that children are capable of such heinous crimes. People may blame his parents but I don't necessarily think thats fair because I know of youngsters whose parents were awful and turned out to have excellent personal character but others with normal nice parents who turned out horrid.

I don't understand why there is no punishment. But, then again does punishment ever work on sociopaths?

What the heck is going on in this kids life that has turned him into such a monster at the tender age of 7. The parents definately should be investigated. He must be totally neglected and unsupervised to be able to pull something like this. It's so sad

I read the story but could not watch the video. How disturbing!! I would say that child needs some sortof mental evaluation done. I sure wouldn't want him living near me!!!

Two things come to mind...
1. The boy is taught this behavior. There are many adults who do not respect or view animals as a valuable life.
2. The boy is mentally disturbed, possibly abused himself.

Either way, the parents should be held responsible.

I saw this this morning and the alarm bells went off as well. It's quite scary to think that a 7 year old child would do such a thing - willingly and on his own.

How disturbing! I can't even picture a child I know doing something like this.

My own kids are such animal lovers. Last week a hawk landed on our back deck, stalking a squirrel. The squirrel was under the table, making scared noises, clearly wanting to escape. I wasn't sure what to do, and frankly I was kind of curious to see how it would play out. But my DS (turns 9 in a few days) was near tears, worried that the hawk would kill the squirrel. His solution was to open the kitchen window and let our dog bark at the hawk, which worked...the hawk flew over to the neighbor's yard and the squirrel was able to escape.

We got some great pics, and DS was able to tell his science class the whole story. It was a big hit.

(Sorry if that was kind of off topic...)

Jodi..you're son sounds like my kind of kid :). I would have done the same exact thing. I love that he shared it with his class.

DH is always reminding me about the whole "circle of life" thing b/c I can not watch shows where animals are hunting for other animals. I know it's necessary, I just don't want those images in my head.

I've done my fair share of animal rescues..I don't discriminate either. Even when I'm out walking if I see a caterpillar on the sidewalk I'll pick it up and find a safe flower to put it on  I once stopped traffic on a busy road to grab a turtle that was inches from getting smooshed. I have many more crazy stories :p

Thanks Chastity. The funniest part for me was that he had forgotten to write down what his science homework was, and I was giving him a hard time about it. The next day he comes home after telling the class the whole story, and informs me that his science homework had been to observe some animals that are found in our region of Georgia! LOL...so he came out smelling like a rose!

Everything else aside, I truly hope that someone fights to get this child some help. He obviously has some major issues going on. Normal 7 year old kids don't kill animals like that. Wow, I hope he gets the help he needs or I'm sure this won't be the last time we see him on the news.

Wow, I'm usually pretty quick to blame the parents, but at only 7 this kid sounds too messed up for someone else to have inflicted this on him. Some people really are just mentally ill, and this kid is one of them. Obviously, we don't know the full story, so who really knows, but this kid seems like a future murderer of people, not just animals. He needs serious help and medication.

I felt sick when I read this story earlier this morning -partly because of the circumstances AND partly because for a fleeting moment, I thought it was sad that HE didn't fall into the pen with the alligator. I am a big animal lover and I hate when they are victimized like this.

Okay, they may have mentioned this in the article, but I couldn't get past the fact that he fed animals to the croc, and bashed several lizard to death with a rock! I'm sickened by the whole thing.

First : why is a 7 year old going around unsupervised, with enough time to do this much damage?

Second : no consequences for his actions? This child needs some psychological/behavioral counseling stat. And his parents might need some help as well.

He might either be a victim of abuse, or a sociopath on his way to even more cruel behavior in the future.

Wow!! This kid is on his way to becoming a serial killer. Seriously!! Many serial killers started out torturing animals as children. He needs help. ITA about where was his supervision? How did he get to the zoo without someone missing him?
