Hi,
I had the chance to watch Oprah today, and Bob Greene's new book looks good. I forget the name of it, but it is his latest diet/lifestyle/eating plan. Did anyone hear of it? Is it good? Worth getting?
Thanks!
-Jen

I saw the show but didn't really hear anything new. I am interested in his products, though. They kept mentioning yogurt, though, and it sounded like the kind that has a lot of sugar. I try to avoid flavored yogurt and other products with too much sugar in it but will still check into his products.

I wonder if he got the idea of eating yougurt from "Frech Women Don't Get Fat." The author said something to the effect that French women eat yogurt every day (but not the high sugar kind).

I too watched him yesterday and the Grocery List segment looks like alot of processed foods. I'm sure its perfect for alot of people but I worked really hard to come off of prepackaged foods last year so I'm not sure about this... I do think Bob Greene is respectable in the field tho so probably worth checking out.

I don't think much of his programs - I look at whether I could stick to what he promotes long term, and so far it's been a "no." I also look at the long-term results Oprah has gotten, and what I see is her weight going up and down. I also listen to what she's said, and one of the things that sticks out in my mind "I hate exercise." Why has no one told her that exercise can be fun? I like what Dr. Oz says much better because it's much more practical.

He seemed to be promoting a lot of processed food. I hate his approach. He's like a walking advertisement for major food labels.

I think Dr. Oz's book is a better investment for long term healthy eating habits.

I've heard pretty bad reviews, too. For unprocessed food emphasis I've found the best book out there to be Tosca Reno's Eat Clean Diet. It just came out and you can get it on Amazon.

I wasn't impressed. It's all just marketing. And the products aren't his - he just got a lot of major manufacturers to stick his label on their boxes, indicating it's "approved" for his diet plan. I agree - lots of processed goods and not a lot of new info. The only thing I will give him is between him and the Oprah-cult, maybe they can help some of the truly obese get some control over their lives.

When he help up his new book and said it was going to pay for his new daughter's college fund, I had to pause............

His daughter was just born so it's not as bad as it sounds. Even a meager amount invested now and allowed to mature over 18 years will help pay his daughter's college fund.

Thanks for the advice...I guess I will look for something else to buy with my Border's gift card. You should hear the ladies talking about it at work (of course they don't exercise)!!!

p.s. Are there any books that you recommend? I remember one poster suggested a good one. Any others would be welcome! I am looking for a good, sensible, easy to stick to book about food/lifestyle changes.

A heads up about the Tosca Reno book...I bought it along with an Oxygen magazine special issue on Clean Eating. The book was $17; the magazine was $5. And guess what? They magazine basically had all the SAME information, just in condensed form. I returned my book the next day.
