Bad food and the good girls who love it

I am interested in which foods you ladies like that are horribly bad for you. You may not ever eat them because they are so toxic. I don't eat sugar or white flour generally, but I would if I could. I haven't had any of this stuff in at least 3 years. I have a few deadly favorites devoid of any nutritional value whatsoever, and they are:

Frosted Strawberry Pop Tarts with those multi colored sprinkles
Frosted Flakes
Regular Coke
Salt Bagels
Iced Raisin Bread with cream cheese

Hi,

Where do I start,

Crunchy nut cornflakes
cheese
quiche
chocolate biscuits
crisps
pasta with lots of sauce on it
curries

and the list goes on....

I could eat all these things in abundance but because I have now accepted clean eating as a way of life, I now rarely touch these
plus I think about clogged arteries and diabetes and it helps me to have control.
Oh! I do occasionally have the odd bag of low fat crisps, but not often.

Luv hotchick:)

I hope this will be cathartic and not lead to a binge... but here goes:

C foods
Cookies (soft and chewy of ANY kind)
Cakes (Little Debbies - I have been known to eat 2 entire boxes in one day of these)
Crackers (anything super salty, Veggie Thins and Wheat Thins come to mind)
Chips (Sun Chips, Pringles, Doritos)
Candy Bars (Reese's anything, Snickers, Baby Ruth, Almond Joy)

Some of these foods are not in the past yet, but I really wish they would be because they make me moody, depressed, and once I start eating them, I can't seem to stop. Interesting thread.

I have a long list and there a few that no matter what I do, I still can't give up. I try to limit them, but....

Pizza, chocolate, chips and dip. These three are the worst for me!!! I have to have chocolate everyday. Seriously. The pizza and chips and dip, I try to only have once every other week. Other than that, I can pretty much be good ;)

Toasted lemon pound cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Key Lime pie made from fresh key limes.
Perfect French baguette with butter.
Any European custard-filled flaky pastry, especially if combined with a fruit filling.
Guacamole and corn chips.
Sweet potato and pecan pie (together in one pie)
Steak fries.
Sweet potato chips or fries.
I am a vegetarian, but a medium rare outdoor grilled bacon cheeseburger would be good, since we're fantasizing.

Lets see....where do I start.

I love chips and dip. I never have this in the house and if I do run into it at a party, I do not, repeat, do not, eat it. I can't stop once I have started. It gives me very bad breath as well. Also not attractive.

Donuts...especially Dunkin' Donuts. I do allow myself to have one once a month. Our church has donut Sunday monthly. I only have one and I try not to get one that is filled with icing. When I was pregnant, however, I have been known to scarf down 3. We are getting a Krispie Kreme here in our area....I am very nervous!!!!!!!!!!

Pizza. I love greasy pizza right out of the oven. I rarely have the opportunity to have this, so when I do get the chance, I take advantage.

I love Frosted Flakes. I cannot stop at one bowl.

Cheesy poofs are a favorite of mine also. Especially when that are extremly fresh and practically melt in my mouth.

Coffee is definately a vice of mine that I cannot break. I love this stuff. The coffee itself isn't bad, it's the vanilla creamer I put in it that is. I can't drink coffee unless it has that crap in it.

I love french fries. With four kiddies, these are practically a staple at my dinner table. I have gotten better at limiting myself, but there is definately room for improvement.

Anything with gravy...especially french fries.

Butter bread.
Pancakes with lots of butter.
Banana bread with lots of butter.

O-kay. You get the point. I could be a piggy if I allowed myself to be. I will shut up now. I could go on forever with this list.....good thing dinner is in the oven.

I guess I don't really understand some people's take on what should be considered "horribly bad for you" and "devoid of nutritional value".

I agree that crisps/potato chips top the charts here. Brownies, cake, etc, etc.

But cheese? Quiche? Guacamole? Coffee?

These all feature regularly in my diet. As a vegetarian the cheese and the eggs and milk in the quiche represent important sources of protein, vitamins, minerals and calcium. Last time I made it, guacamole, stuffed with natural yoghurt, was doing a pretty good job of upping my calcium intake and personally, I use quiches stuffed with red peppers, courgettes and mushrooms to help meet my 5-a-day for veggies.

Do we need to rush to nix perfectly healthy foods from our diet? Yes, cheese has a high fat content, but how much do you eat per day? And I hate to mention it, but the body needs fat as energy source. I know that everyone knows their body and how it reacts to different substances better than any medic ever could, but still, let's not get totally fat and carb-phobic, please?

Hi,

I put cheese and quiche on my list not because they are bad in moderation, but because I can become obsessed with eating cheese and anything with cheese in it, and once I make a quiche I end up eating the whole thing ,and as we all know cheese is very high in fat, so the way that I eat it would make it bad for me in the long term,(clogged arteries and all that) and I dont do cottage cheese, I mean lets face it it is not the same as taste goes, well not for me.

luv hotchick;)

I second the donuts notion...that one of my favorite items for my pig-0ut Fridays. A local grocery store has the best cream sticks and jelly rolls, and I go early on Friday mornings to get the day-old ones. Absolutely Fabulous, dahlings!

Just Do It! :)

Can't resist adding my favorites:

Cannolis
Costco White Chocolate Chip/Macadamia Nut Big Cookies
Soft-serve ice cream
Chocolate covered soy nuts (Trader Joe's)
Texa Sheet Cake
KLONDIKES (I'm a Pittsburgh gal)
Lasagne with loads of mozzerella and ricotta
Peanut butter, eaten straight out of the jar w/a spoon
Nestles crunch bars
Dark chocolate (any kind)

Yummy thread!

YOU GUYS ARE MAKING ME SO HUNGRY! ;-)

My favorites... and I'll preface by saying that I eat everything on this list at some point - usually as my weekend treats. I'm one of those "can't completely do away with all good things" people, that would make me CRAZY!

1. Cheesecake - this is more rare since I'm not usually privy to it unless I make it.

2. Chicken Cheesesteak - I like the chicken better than the beef, what can I say? It's the gooey cheese and greasy goodness that sucks me in every time. This was never a problem for me until I moved to Philly.

3. Pizza - love it in every shape and form.

4. Chicken/Pork/Beef Lo Mein and Crabmeat Rangoon - now I'm drooling.

5. McDonald's fries - now this I love but almost NEVER eat. To me, it's too much fat and calories in too little of an amount. I can get a lot more bang for my buck elsewhere.

6. Buffalo Wings... again rarely eaten for the same reasons stated above, plus major heartburn.

RE: Yummy thread!

My all time WORST food I have vowed to give up, MOOSETRACKS!!!!! I can eat the whole half gallon. It is the best chocolate I have ever had in my life. I have not eaten it in a month or so since I vowed to start eating better.

RE: Back off chocolate chips.....

Hi: I agree with the post about hoping this doesn't trigger a binge - because I just made 4 dozen cc cookies for a scout meeting that I just found out we're not going to attend....

The foods I can't control are:

Tiramisu
Nachos, or just chips and cheese, or chips and cheese dip, or chips and cream cheese and salsa....
Popcorn and caramel (preferably milkduds)
All kinds of protein - steak, pork chops, chicken, turkey, fish - I CRAVE it sometimes.

The salt and fat monster hits me every 3-4 weeks without fail...

Katie

RE: KLONDIKES ??????????

OK, I have to ask what are KLONDIKES ???? Are these the equivalent of crumpets in the UK ?????

Anna

have you tried guacamole with slices of red peppers and baby carrots? They add a certain sweetness and are delicious!
