Anyone see the Super Bowl halftime show?

Did Janet Jackson REALLY think a stunt like that would help her career, which has been SO OVER for years? Instead of having some class and making an attempt to be talented, she whored herself. As a result, I predict her career will remain in the toilet, just like her brother who may very likely end up in prison before long. They're pathetic.

Now Beyonce on the other hand...she's a class act and can sing too :)

Yuck!! I was looking forward to the half time because the first half was so bad, and then I felt slammed! Did not see that coming, though I should have from the commercials. They were bad too, and I usually enjoy those. I was glad my kids were not watching, and my husband was even grossed out. He is not normally bugged by things, but he was stunned saying "What was THAT?!!"

The question I have not seen answered yet is that if this was a "costume malfunction", what on earth was really supposed to happen? Her whole top come off?

Didn't Justin date Janet for a while?

On the topic of what children are exposed to: on "Surreal Life" (a weird "reality" program that has has-been celebs--like Tammy Faye (Baker) Messner, some male porn star, Vanilla Ice and Eric Estrada living together--the group was to put on a play for some children, including some very young children with a script provided. The first line the princess delivers is "you know what really sucks?" I'd never put "sucks" in a play that is supposed to be for a young audience!

Well, some people say there's no such thing as bad publicity, and the point is to get people to talk about you.

It looks planned to me. Otherwise: 1) why would she wear such a cheaply-made, easily rippable top? 2) why would she wear nipple jewelry that just begs to be seen? (And nipple piercing....ouch! I could never get the appeal of that.)

And why would it rip off just as Justin was saying "Better have you naked by the end of this song." Plus, Janet's choreographer said a few days before the superbowl, when specifically asked about the half time show, "It's going to have some shocking moments." What a waste of time. I just hope too many kids didn't have to see it.

My kids were bored by the show. DS8 had his back to the TV when it happened and DS14 was talking to me about something. I was looking at my computer, so DH was the only one who saw it. Sadly, I wasn't shocked at all that this happened. I guess I'm a prude, but the way almost all primetime TV has been going, it was only a matter of time before something this blatant happened. I've begun to think that not only do the networks not care that children are watching, they are deliberately trying to provoke children. Plus, they also feel like it's their place to "shock" conservative adults (like me.) CBS and the NFL might have been innocent in this one, but I think MTV, Justin and Janet knew exactly what they were doing. (And CBS was stupid to trust MTV to put on a family friendly show.)

Would it really be so horrible to have students from the local high school or college band to come in and play and march during half time? What an honor it would be to play at the superbowl! When did it get so out of control anyway? Whu not celebrate the up and coming local music students rather than people of questionable talent?

Just a thought from a music teacher!

Oh my goodness...this makes me sick! I can not believe those pics. Does NOT look like an accident to me! And to think this is a family show! I am sure CBS is ticked off. I hope MTV gets what they deserve. I do not know why folks these days think they need to strip naked to make a buck! And we wonder why we have trouble with our youth today!!!!! uuuugghhh!

Sorry.... just had to vent!

You know what Susan, I think that is a great idea!! I noticed they had a couple of local university bands there, but they didn't get to play much. Just an intro sort of piece. I suppose the powers that be would be reluctant to do such a thing because they're concerned about the almighty ratings, but I know I would love to see a show like that during halftime, instead of the circus it's turning more and more into with each passing year. Anyone remember Michael Jackson grabbing his crotch during his Super Bowl halftime performance a few years back? What IS it with those two, anyway??? (Janet and Michael)

RE: Most definitely planned...

Oh, I'm all right Brenda - thanks!! :) The whole thing really took me by surprise, and my 13 year old daughter was watching with me. She was just as shocked, and I'm sure they're all talking about it in her school today. I guess I'm just sort of naive in that I didn't realize it was such a staged thing until I read more about it this morning. It doesn't make me angry so much as wondering why on earth performers think they need to do things like this in order to get attention??? If they had real talent, they wouldn't need to. Perhaps I just answered my own question ??? :D I mean ... can you imagine a performer with a voice like Celine Dion having to resort to shocking publicity stunts in order to sell CD's? Somehow I can't see it. But then, I'm always surprised at the antics of Madonna, who I feel actually has real talent, and doesn't need to do the outrageous things she has done. And now she's a mom!! Her kids will see all this archive footage one day. I know it would embarrass me!! I realize she made her fame by selling sex along with her music, but she doesn't have to do that anymore. She never really had to do it in the first place. I don't know. I guess it sells, or these people wouldn't be billionaires, but does that mean we have to see stunts like that at a football game???? NO. I agree - they do not belong there.

I am a huge football fan and if there is one think I hate it's the half time show. I don't watch the superbowl for the commercials or the no talent singers (except for Josh Groban). Yes, U2 was great 2 years ago and Shania Twain was really good last year, but look at the no talent, sleeze this year. I'd like this to be a wakeup call that the superbowl is about the two best teams in the NFL playing for the championship. Can we talk about how great the game was? How about Tom Brady's two amazing scoring drives. How about Jake Delhomme and what an amazing game he played?

Beth (on cloud 9 the Pats won!)

You want some high school kids playing at the half time show for the Super Bowl...what do you think this is??? the 60's??? Oh, yeah, we've come such a long way...look at what NBC calls must see tv and you just can't be too shocked at the Janet-and-Justin-show!!! I'm glad I missed it. And I'm glad I'm previewing some Margaret Richards workouts rather than what the tv folks think I should be watching...okay, thanks for listening to my .02 worth, now I'll go do something like pack lunches for work tomorrow...

I saw it on the news, but loved the game. During the half time show I watched another show. I'm not into the music they had.
But I have to say, that was some game!!! I've only gotten into football in the past few years, and though my 2 teams are the Jets and Steelers, I was hoping for New England, and DH was hoping for Carolina. Wow, we really didn't know til the last min who would win, I really enjoyed that game. Didn't even know about the Jackson thing until after the news came on.

The game was awesome, awesome, awesome (I'm bummed my Panthers lost, but they played a sweet game).

Even without the chest flash, I thought the lyrics to the halftime songs were totally inappropriate. I'm glad to see how disgusted so many people are at the pathetic behavior exhibited during the halftime show. Gives me some optimism that society hasn't gone completely down the toilet; it's encouraging to see that many kids were turned off by it too. I'm heartened to see that I'm not the only one who doesn't appreciate the likes of Madonna, Britney, Christina, or anyone else with no talent who behaves in such ways to just get attention.

I thought the whole half time show was disgusting!!!! Of course it was all planned! Janet should have just gone away gracefully instead of prostituting herself to sell a couple of cds. She's nothing but a has been. Of course they got what they wanted, all people are talking about is her boob and not the great game!
The whole half time show was a disgrace, certainly not for family entertainment. I wish CBS and MTV would be heavily fined by the FCC so others would think first before putting such trash on TV. Nothing like trying to explain what was on her boob to my 11 year old daughter, who was so disgusted. Luckily my 12 year old son missed it. Just my $.02!

Actually, I think some really good college or high school marching bands would be pretty darn cool. When they opened the half-time show with about 10 seconds of a marching band drum line, I was hoping we'd see more. That was the only real musical talent I saw during HT.

As for the sorry state of network TV, all I can say is I love my satellite dish. If anyone wants to see good reality TV, check out the National Geographic channel. ;)

On a positive note, the game was awesome!
