Anyone else not have a use for ipad?

I think one reason it's so popular and that people were standing in line waiting for its release is that it's a status symbol for some people to get the latest technology.

I'm fine being a semi-luddite!

I've been drooling over them since they were released. I certainly can't justify purchasing one right now but if I was to get one as a gift, I certainly wouldn't turn it down. :D I'm just sayin'......;)

Well I can't wait to get one! My husband ordered one for himself that will be here in a couple of days and he offered to get me one for my 40th b-day present. DH is a computer programmer, and we have laptops, netbooks, and computers galore around our house, but I am still really excited to get an iPad. On another fitness forum, a poster called the iPad her portable "entertainment center." I think a lot of people are using it this way and that is why it is so popular.

With the iPad I plan to display photos (Apple makes a really cool case for the iPad that doubles as a stand), play games (so many cool, addictive games available), watch Netflix movies via streaming app, read books, check email, surf the web, listen to music (I can load up my faves from Rhapsody and plug the iPad into my car to listen thru speakers), do workouts, and read to my kids. Someone was asking about speakers on the iPad. If you want to boost the sound, you can use the iSpeaker portable speaker.

I think the iPad is especially cool for those with small kids...for reading interactive e-books, playing simple games, and watching movies. My 4 year old daughter already asks to play games on my dh's iPhone almost every day. She is going to go nuts over the iPad! The iPad could also be very useful for the elderly...check out this neat clip! http://www.maclife.com/article/news/video_100yearold_woman’s_first_computer_ipad

I can see how it isn't for everyone, but I'm definitely in the pro-iPad camp! :)

I definitely do not need one. Having said that I really, really want one. I don't have many toys, no gaming device of any kind, no recreational vehicles, lots of exercise equipment but I'd hardly call that toys. I have an iPod touch and I love it. The iPad seems like an iPod touch on steroids. I want one so bad that at the ripe old age of 50 I'm embarrassed to admit that I'm hoping my mother will get me one for my birthday. She's a total apple fanatic (at 80) and makes a lot more money than me! Yes, she's still working.

Well, then, you should have one! We have every Apple "toy" known to man right now except for the iPad and iPod Touch. We have absolutely everything else, including, not one, but two, Mac Minis (only because I needed extra storage for my digital Cathe library). DH wanted to maximize the expense by getting something that we wouldn't have to replace or enhance again in a year.

Nothing embarrassing about hoping your mom takes care of you on your birthday! Mine does every year!

That may be true of some, but I doubt it's true of most. A lot of people really love the latest technology, and I can understand why. It simplifies and streamlines our lives AND makes them more fun! Even though I don't need it, I wouldn't be surprised if I wind up with an ipad eventually. It really seems irresistible.

My DD just got one for her 13th b'day and she loves it. She can do homework with it, updated facebook, internet, etc. She only uses it at home and it helps us avoid a line of kids wanting to use the family computer. You can also buy a stand for it and use the Apple keyboard with it to make writing easier.

I think it is working great as a second 'computer'. We had a netbook and the keyboard and screen are so small and the performance is just not as good as the iPad. She much prefers the iPad.
