There was a women in front of me yesterday at the check out lane and she saved over 25$ She had this little plastice file folder thing she kept all her coupons in and said it was well worth her effort!

Im seriously thinking about this! Where do you get most of your coupons? I know there in the sunday paper, but where else?

If you want to do the coupon thing, you can generally go online and print them, or yes, the paper. I find, though, coupon savings are not as much as buying generic or store brands which I almsot always do. So if there is a national brand that I do buy, I use coupons for those, but my savings are not nearly as much as you saw.

I wish I did! I just came home from a $320 grocery trip-no meat, etc! That's for my husband, me and 3 girls. And I go about every 10 days-2 weeks with a minor trip for milk, etc. I just don't have the patience to sit and clip. And I never seem to find coupons for the things we eat like Kashi cereals, Greek yogurt, organic stuff, etc. It's always the sugar/sodium laden stuff.:( I wish I could be like those women you see on tv who spend some ridiculous amount like $2.99 and have stocked shelves for a year!

I am fortunate to be able to spend that much. I was in line behind someone with WIC today. But, man if the economy keeps up...

I don't clip coupons, but I have a grocery store savings card that works as a coupon clipper. I've also expanded where I do my shopping. I started paying attention who charges what for the items I buy and go the place where they are the cheapest. For example, I get better much deals on cereal (including Kashi) at Target or yogurt at Trader Joes. Same thing with ziploc bags, toilet paper, paper towels, toothpaste, dogfood, shampoo, etc. Much cheaper at Target.

Peanut butter, bagels, breads, whole chickens and much of my fruits and vegetables I buy at Costco. (ex. Costco sells 4 lbs of bananas for $1.30 total!) Obviously, with gas prices being what they are, I can eat up my savings driving all over so I only go to each them every 2 weeks, keeping separate lists of what I want to buy where. Works for me and less stressful than worrying about whether a coupon would expire before I used it. :)

I use coupons for Kohls, Borders, Gap, Old Navy etc. ALL the time though!! Huge savings! I just saved 40% at Old Navy this weekend buying clothes for my kids. For example, I got jeans for my DS for about $11 each and a very cute dress for DD for $17.

I just asked about this not too long ago, and a couple of helpful Catheites offered up Coupons.com. I haven't tried it yet, but I plan to.

Our store gives us register coupons, but they're usually for stuff I don't buy. I plan my week's meals around the sale paper.

No, not anymore. I did that when I was out of shape and overweight and got plenty of stuff for free or cheap using coupons. I don't think there are coupons for fresh fruit, raw nuts, grassfed beef, and all the other good stuff I eat now.

I'm a big coupon believer. I try to clip every week. I let my little boy help me. If I really put my mind to it, I can typically save about $20-$30 per week. I try to read the grocery ads and use coupons for advertised specials. For example: if there are buy one get one free sales, and I have a coupon, I wind up paying next to nothing for the item. This usually really works well for cereal and popcorn, which are HUGE staples in my house. Plus, my grocery store doubles coupons that are 50 cents or less. The only thing you have to watch out for is, at first, you may be tempted to buy more than you need just because you have a coupon. But you just have to make your list and then go through your coupons. LOVE coupons.

Thanks everybody! I buy generic just about everything...I will have to compare the prices. Ceral and popcorn are also huge at our house....

And thanks for the link Lori...i will have to check it out!

Amelia-

YUP.....HUGE coupon user here! I clip the weekend coupons for groceries, and I go to mycoupons.com (different than the one a previous poster posted). At mycoupons.com, where you can register for free, you go to "Shopping Boards" (a link on the right side of the screen) and it has several forums to check out. Some of them are posters sharing deals they found online or in a brick & mortar store. Another forum is for trading coupons. So if there's a good coupon out there and you only have 1 from your paper, you can trade for multiples of this coupon (by trade, it's more like selling, but that's illegal so they call it trading and you pay for "postage and handling". lol). I've gotten TONS of really good deals there over the years.

I definately use them!!! I used to get them from my MIL from the Sun paper but she has moved out of the area so I don't get as many. Sometimes I get some in the mail from products I'm registered on-line with such as Kashi. Others off of packaging.

OMG are you sure that wasn't me in front of you, lol!! I have a little plastic file folder type thing that I keep all of my coupons organized in. They are sorted by type of product in alphapetical order. I shop at Giant Eagle, so I have their Advantage card, which gets me savings, and then on top of that, they double coupons under $0.99. We usually spend only $100 on groceries every 2 weeks for the two of us. Plus we get the gas discount for shopping at Giant Eagle.

I clip all of my coupons in the Sunday paper. I don't actually read the paper, but the dollar I spend on it is so worth it if I can save 10-15% on groceries.

Yeah, I'm the one with the organizer and the stash of coupons. Actually, before my DH and I were married, it was the first fight we ever had. I always bought everything on sale and with a coupon and I was a little that he at the time who made less than I did would not. Then we got into line and he paid for his and then I paid for mine and he saw that I who had bought three times as much as he did was handing over less money. Ever since then, he's a convert.

Since we always buy both on sale AND on coupon, those little total savings number usually add up to anywhere between 40-60% savings for us but we're almost always double digit coupon savings. They've recently taken away double coupons from the chains where we live which has annoyed us greatly. But its funny, a lot of our friends don't believe us until we show them receipts or they go shopping with us. But seriously, if that number is less than 40% at the bottom we consider it a defeat :).

I get the Sunday paper for the coupons too. I read the paper too but the main motivation are the coupons. Totally worth it.

I try! I check the coupons every Sunday but there is rarely anything there that we eat. I find myself using them for laundry detergent, contact lens solution etc. I do shop on the days my local supermarket (which is not a chain) has 10% off and I have a discount card for Shopright. Wish I could find more coupons. I would use them.

I clip coupons too but admit I'm not that organized with them. Yesterday we were in Kroger's and the lady in front of us had an entire shoebox with her neatly organized with dividers. I know I have to get more organized but I don't want to be dragging around a shoebox either.

I would use more

but what I do is I shop at places like Winco and the dollar store. I like costco too. I get chicken quarters (thigh/drumstick) 6 count for 5.50. I roast them in a pan and my mother and I have food for a week. I also cook other things but it covers her lunches and mine for protein. We carefully purchase what is on sale. And if a non-perishable is on sale we buy extra and keep it in the pantry. Such as canned tomatoes, black beans, or boxed low-sodium chicken broth. I buy vegetables/fruits in season. Cabbage is usually cheap and disappears in soups. Unfortunately soup doesn't usually have enough calories in it but it does fill you up if you don't have much money.

I use coupons at Borders. Although, I also like the library. I found a lowfat cookie book there and had a blast and didn't have to keep the book :)

I do have one of those little billfolds for coupons. I got it to put receipts in it, but maybe I should put coupons in it.

I love to use coupons and get them out of the Sunday paper every week. For me it's a fun hobby, I have them organized in little sections in a card box - shampoos, toothpastes, laundty soap, cereals, soaps, cosmetics, general food, general non-food and then within those caregories, by date. I shop at chain grocery stores twice a month (otherwise I'm at Trader Joes or Whole Foods) and always go through my coupons before I go to the store, then I just write down on my shopping list whatever items I'm going to use the coupon for. I usually save between $30 and $60 on maybe a $150 shopping bill.

This works well for me because I'm not fussy about most brands - I will use whatever toothpaste, toilet paper, canned tomatoes, or whatever, I have a coupon for. Sometimes I have a coupon for an item I might otherwise not try and I do sometimes try new things that way. If I really preferred certain brands of things, this would not work as well.

Also, as another poster said, I have read that buying generic brands, and comparing prices really carefully, will save you more than using coupons. I think that is probably true but I'm not willing to comparison-shop that way. So I figure I am saving some money by using coupons. It's pretty exciting to see how much you've saved every week!
