Any Cathe beginners?

Checking in- had WW today, and after being on vacation last week, and totally behaving myself this week- I lost 0.4lbs! I still find that hard to believe when I work out like a beast and hardly lose anything.

In any case, it has been difficult motivating myself to exercise again. Yesterday, I took a walk, when I came home I did CoreMax- the first workout, and could still do it. This morning, I did Push Pull- which is a nice short low intensity weight work. The worst part of that was getting up in the morning to do it, very difficult to motivate myself to get back into the swing.

Should I do a big cardio workout tomorrow, or keep it light? Hmmm, depends on what I feel like in the morning.

Nancy- great job with Turbo Fire, they look like fun- have a great vacation!
Elle- take care of yourself, hope you feel better
Jen- is it any cooler in Ohio?
Dave & Pam- have a great day!

Checking in with Turbo Fire: Fire 55 EZ Class completed today. Love this workout but I'm seeing improvement in how much I can do so that's great.

One more work day and vacation time! YAY! At least I'm working from home tomorrow so it will be a good way to ease into it. LOL

Bridget:
Sorry to hear motivation has been low lately. I found that a bit last month and think I just needed to switch up my workouts and Turbo Fire just happened to come along. :) I think it was what I needed. The workouts are fun and tough at the same time.

Congratulations on the 0.4lb loss!

I'm still fighting this bug! I've been loading up on cold f/x but i'm still not feeling good: tired, congested, sore throat (comes & goes), headache. I was hoping to get in some yoga this week but it hasn't happened.:( I'm feeling frustrated that i got sick and haven't been working out at all in more than a week but i'm trying to get better and allow myself the rest until i recover.

Bridget: It may not seem like much but a loss is a loss and it will add up. :) Stick with it. That may be a factor in your low motivation: It's discouraging to work so hard and not see that on the scale. Try to focus on the health benefits and how good you feel as a result of the exercise. The scale IS moving in the right direction.

Phoenix: Two weeks off! That sounds great even if you aren't going away. You'll have plenty of time for your workouts!;)

Have a great day!

Checking in with Turbo Fire: Fire 45 Class + Stretch 10 Class today. Fire 45 is always tough but it was even harder today...think I'm a little low on energy. And this workout ends four full weeks with Turbo Fire! YAY! I'm debating whether to start including STS for strength training workouts since Turbo Fire is mostly cardio and I will just skip the resistance ones. A few other people are starting up in August so I may do that..I'll think about it a little more. :)

I am now on vacation and no thoughts of work for 2 weeks!!

I also seem to have gotten in a good workout vacuuming today. LOL My poor back is killing me - might be from sitting all day too and then vacuuming and doing Turbo Fire. I got my new vacuum today so I had to try it out and I'm all impressed. I got one of those Dyson ones and they are $$ but work great! I can't believe the amount of dirt and pet hair it picked up!

Elle:
Sorry to hear you are still fighting off that cold! Don't worry about the workouts - just keep taking care of yourself and get lots of rest!

Hey all, just checking in after working a week in hades. Was able to keep up with my lunch walks all week with the exception of Friday. We have been having heat advisories for the past couple of days. It was so hot and humid on Thursday that I really had to push myself to finish and I kept telling myself that if I held strong until the end that I wouldn't force myself to go for a walk on Friday with the heat advisory being issued. Needless to say, I decided to skip Friday's walk, which was good because the heat index with humidity was up around 103 degrees. :(

I weighed in and lost 1.2#, but I think I need to cut out some of the carbs I have been eating in the evening--past couple of days I seem to be craving cheddar cheese Flipsides!

Nancy: Great job on doing Turbo Fire and I hope you are able to enjoy your two weeks vacation! I envy you and wish I could take some time off from work, but they still haven't hired anyone so I get stuck being the only one in the office most days. I think I am going to begin to add back in some weight and ab routines 3 days a week to see if I can get my belly from being such jelly. My walks have definitely helped my cardio stamina and I think the weights have helped with toning my arms and legs, but my poor belly really needs some help!!!

Elle: Hope you start to feel better really soon! Rest and drink plenty of liquids and don't worry about working out, concentrate on feeling better!

Bridget: Don't worry about motivation, it will come back and perhaps you need some down time. GREAT JOB on being on vacation and losing 0.4#--that is awesome!!

Dave, Pam, Kelly and Sheryl: Hope things are going well with you and you are on track with your workouts. We miss hearing from you!

Coming week's rotation....

Hi all. Here is this week's rotation:
S: PS "Strong Leg's & Abs"
M: Firm "The 500 Calorie Workout"
T: PS "Back, Biceps, and Abs"
W: Reabok "The Step Video"
T: PS "Chest/Shoulders/ Triceps"
F: Firm "Total Body Time-Crunch"
(one day off to be fit in somewhere)

Since we're confessing, last week I wimped out of one sceduled day. Mostly it was that I walked 5 miles that day leafletting -- and am busy cleaning out my den room, converting it from a den full of books to what will be a "free store" to be used by our church for helping the poor. So far, I have done the hard lifting part, and now the cleaning begins. So that day I was tired! Reading some of your posts, you lead busy lives -- and it's hard to fit in time to exercize some days. I do not know how you do it.

Pam and Jen: Last week especially, I myself have had trouble going past 30 minutes. One idea is to do select (fun) parts of two videos, to make the time more varied and fun. I have trouble doing any type of advanced stepping -- but often the first 10 minutes of a video are easy, so I do the 10 minutes and then switch videos(!).
Bridget: I have a spare VHS player, and this is where switching videos is easily done -- after a warm up I just start the new video when the main program starts. Cathe VHS videos, btw, are of good quality, and seem to last forever. I did order her two "high step" videos -- since, though they are advanced, seem doable for beginners, with modifications.
Elle: keep it up on the f&v front. I have a book "An Idiot's Guide to Heart Disease" -- which I bought after a high blood pressure scare 5 years ago. It said to do what you are doing, have an oat-based cereal with fruit in the morning. THis is what I do. I an tying -- for once -- starting to take two fruit with me to work, to stretch the day out. I have a "normal" lunch -- but have three servings of veggies for supper. The trick is to only eat veggies you like.
Nancy: have fun on your vacation...do you have a laptop, or do you take a vacation from your computer?
-- David

I ended up taking a rest day yesterday as plans changed and I didn't have time for a workout. Today I more than made up for it! LOL I had to cut the grass and did some weeding as well. I also did Turbo Fire: Fire 55 EZ Class and Stretch 10 class. And I did quite a few 1RM tests for STS. I decided to start STS on August 1st with a few other people. I kept putting off trying it and figured I might as well use it since I bought it. LOL I'm going to mix in Turbo Fire for cardio.

I'm also happy that I lost 3 lbs last week and I'm sooo close to my second weight loss milestone of 190! I weighed in yesterday at 190.6! I removed my ticker since it wasn't working (I post a question about it and they said they hoped to have them fixed soon and they were a result of the site moves).

Jennifer:
Congratulations on losing 1.2#!! Wow on keeping up with the walks with that humidity! I'd be skipping them. LOL Sorry to hear you are the only one stuck in the office...hope you get to take some time off in the near future.

David:
I'm not going anywhere on vacation - it's just a vacation from work. LOL I'll still be getting in computer time but probably not as much.

Checking in with Turbo Fire: Fire 30 Class + Stretch 10 Class done today. I was also surprisingly sore in a few places from the 1RM tests I did yesterday.

I'm enjoying my time off so far but as usual, something has to break or stop working. My garage door decided it had enough and refuses to open or close now so tomorrow I will spend most of the day waiting for the guy to show up and fix it. But it still is better than going to work! LOL

Hope everyone is doing well and having a great day!

I'm finally feeling like my old self. I decided to do Step Blast yesterday and made it through combo 1 & 2. My energy was a little low but i'm glad i did something.

It's going to be a short week for me.:D I'm off on Friday and then we have a holiday on Monday so it will be a nice 4-day weekend for me. In the meantime i need to hustle to meet all of my deadlines by Thursday.

Phoenix: Congrats on the weight loss! Keep up the great work. Dyson vacumes are supposed to be the best so i'm sure it was worth the $$$. it sounds like you are keeping busy during your "staycation". Enjoy yourself!

David: I got in more veggies last week by having them with hummus (yum!). I had bought some Ontario peaches but they went bad really quickly for some reason so i didn't get to finish them all.

Jennifer: Good job on the weight loss and keeping up with your walks! What's a Flipside? Is it like a pancake or something? I love cheese so i'm sure it's good if it has cheddar in it.;)

Hi to Pam & Bridget! Hope you guys are just too busy to check-in.

Have a great day!

Checking in with Turbo Fire: Fire 55 EZ Class + Core 20 Class. I also added the first segment from Stretch Max. And still working my way through those 1RMs...really looking forward to starting STS on Sunday.

Elle:
So glad you are feeling much better!! Great job on getting through the first two combos of Step Blast! The Dyson vacuum was definitely worth the $$ - it is amazing what it picks up and how well it works.

Checking in for the night. Did my lunch walk today - it was a bit more humid today than it was yesterday, but at least I got it out of the way. Yesterday I tried to jog the last 2/10 of a mile and ended up having to ice my knee last night so no more running for me for a while!

Elle: Glad you are feeling better - I always hate it when I try to get back into a workout routine after feeling under the weather. A flipside is a "ritz" type cracker on one side and a pretzel on the other side and they come in cheddar!!! Right now, they are my evening obsession so I have decided when this box is gone, no more Flipsides for me for a while!!!

Nancy: Great job on the workout! I missed out on my chance to get STS #1 for $50.00 and I am kicking myself in the butt!!! Don't think I will be finding it that cheap again unless I get really lucky! So when you start STS on August 1 I will be with you in spirit! :D

Hope everyone is doing well, look forward to hearing from you all!

Hello all,

It has been difficult for me to find my groove again. Last week, I worked out twice, and did not work out all weekend and Monday. This is how I feel when I am falling off the wagon, very difficult to motivate myself to get out of bed in the morning. My new goal is to exercise every other day this week for at least 30 minutes, and I give myself permission to fast forward to the cool down after 30 minutes. That's what I did this morning, Low Impact Circuit cardio mix- the first two intervals with warmup & cool down. I feel good about giving myself permission to lower the intensity.

Nancy- STS intrigues me, I look forward to hearing you check in with it. I may consider that in my future, certainly not now. Are you enjoying your staycation?

David- Don't feel bad about wimping out one day, I've been very wimpy lately! You were doing it working for your church, in addition to light exercise, it is also spiritual exercise!

Elle- Glad you're feeling better. I haven't done Step Blast in many years- VHS player died, am considering downloading it. I did that with Step Heat and it was a fun workout from the past to revive!

Jen- I am so impressed with how much progress you are making on your ticker- you've almost hit the halfway mark! Perhaps the Flipsides have something to do with it!

Checking in with Turbo Fire: Fire 45 Class + Stretch 10 Class. Still tough but getting better each time!

Jennifer:
Great job with the walk and listening to your body. I'm getting excited about starting STS but nervous too!

Bridget:
Any workout is a good one so whatever you are able to do is great. And it's good to give yourself permission to take a break or a lower intensity when you are struggling with motivation. I am looking forward to checking in with STS next week and hoping that I see some great strength improvements from it as well.

I am enjoying my staycation - luckily, it's not going by too fast which is great so I can just relax and take each day as it comes.

Hi all, checking in for the evening. I didn’t do my lunch walk because the heat index was up around 100 this afternoon. Ended up eating a cream-filled donut this afternoon and then feeling really, really, really miserable and guilty by the time I came home! Decided I was only making things worse by fretting about it so I decided to make myself a piece of salmon for dinner and then to make up for the rest of the day, I rode my bicycle 8 miles up and down back hilly country roads in 26 minutes, 54 seconds! (Actually, I did the first 4 miles up to my parent’s house in 13 minutes and then the other 4 miles back home in 13 minutes and 54 seconds.)

Bridget: I’m sorry you’re having a difficult time getting back into the groove again. That’s the way I was feeling before I decided to add some other cardio activity into my workout. My hats off to you for getting out of bed in the morning and working out when you are feeling out of sorts, even if it only a couple of times . . . everything you do is good and counts in the end so maybe your body is trying to tell you that you need the slow down! I think that is great that you give yourself permission to lower the intensity—in all actuality, I think that is the hardest thing to do right there—giving yourself permission—I know I have times when I struggle with that until I get so mad I could scream!

Nancy: I’m getting excited for you and David to fill us all in on STS! I can’t wait to hear how it goes and be able to decide if that is something I want to invest in. What is it about STS that is making you nervous? Glad you are enjoying your staycation and time isn’t flying by!

Checking in with Turbo Fire: Fire 30 Class + Stretch 10 Class today to complete week 5! Rest day tomorrow.

Jennifer:
That heat index is crazy! Don't worry about slipups - just accept them and move on. You are right - fretting about it just makes it worse. You did awesome with the bike ride!

As for STS, I guess it's just because I know it is going to be an intense 3.5 months. LOL But I am looking forward to it and how much stronger I will be at the end.

YEAH!!! It's Friday!!! Checking in for the evening. I didn't do my lunch walk today, but I got a wild hair up my bottom last night and decided to see if googlemaps.com really gives the correct distance from my house to my parent's house. So, when I came home from work I decided to walk it with a professional measuring wheel. I walked up and down hills along back country roads and along a fairly well-traveled main thoroughfair to get to their plat. Guess what--googlemaps is right on. I called my father right as I was starting so he could hack his timer and it took me 1 hour 5 minutes to walk 4 miles at 3.7 mph. This on top of the 2 1/4 miles I walked yesterday at lunch made for one tired and SORE puppy, which is part of the reason why I didn't walk today at lunch. I think in the future I will be riding my bike to their house instead of walking--I get there faster, plus it is easier to go further!

Nancy: I can't wait to hear about STS! I agree with you, I think you will be having an intense 3.5 months, but just think about what you will be gaining! I want to know if I need to continue to look for STS #1 after hearing from you how well you like it or don't like it and what you don't like about it.

Hope everyone else is doing well and enjoys their weekend! I'll check back tomorrow after weigh-in! UGH

Sunday morning check-in...

Hi guys:
Friday was a good day for me. I finished a two-month long academic paper figuring how much extra Ontario and British Columbia families will pay with the new HST sales tax (about $290-$320 a year). On Friday afternoon I was busy e-mailing prospective editors -- and I think I found two outlets for the thing.

All the while writing the paper I got back into regular exercize. Here -- post-paper -- I am optimistic enough to go seven days a week with no day off:
S: Cathe PLB
M: The Firm "Total Body Time Crunch"
T: Cathe PUB
W: The Firm "the 500 calorie workout"
T: Amy Bento "All Pump"
F: S. Vitorino "Body Target"
S: T. Effinger "Squeeze Srtronger"

I complained elsewhere on the Cathe site that the two Firm videos had too-complicated aerobics portions, and badly cued. But I am thinking I should try them each week to start learning the complicated parts. Do you guys do that?

Jen:
Congratulations on losing 1.2 lbs! What kind of scale do you have that measures 1/10th of a lb? I have this old thingy with just lbs. I also have trouble with carbs. My problem is that I inch up the portions -- when I should be measuring and keeping to exact (and smaller) portions. I love basmati rice, especially with Indian spices in it:).
Nancy:
Good work on Turbo Fire. I hear so many good comments about it, but I haven't bought it as yet. Is it good for people like me with clumsy left and right feet?
Elle:Ii have problems with fuits and veggies after 5 ot 6 days. I do not drive -- so I only go to the grocery store once a week (Saturdays). I find that blueberries, apples and necarines keep for 7 days, but that strawberries and black berries do not -- so I eat the latter first.

Sheryl, Bridget and Pam: hope to here from you soon!

Checking in with STS Disc 1 completed!! OMG...all those pushups and variations are killer! They are still incredibly tough for me so I modified a lot but am looking forward to the day when I don't have to! I also did Turbo Fire: Fire 30 + Stretch 10 afterwards and it was a lot harder than usual - most likely because of all the energy spent on STS.

Jennifer:
So far I like STS! I don't know why I was waiting so long to try it. I like the 1RMs and the workout cards you can print so you know exactly what weight to use for each exercise. Makes it a lot easier and to adjust.

David:
I think choreography is what you get used to. When I was doing The FIRM workouts a year or so ago, it didn't bother me so much because I was doing them so often that I got used to the style. Same with Cathe and other instructors.

As for Turbo Fire, it does take getting used to but the more you do it, the easier it is to follow along. She also has a "new to class" option that breaks down the moves more slowly if you are new to it. If you have done Turbo Jam before it will be easier to follow along than if you haven't.

Checking in with Turbo Fire: Fire 45 yesterday. I'm still a little bit sore from STS on Sunday and today is Disc 2. Looking forward to it though.

I'm all excited about hearing the announcement for the new Cathe workouts! Anyone else going to pre-order? I'm definitely ordering tomorrow - I think I will just get the downloads.

Back to work after my extended long weekend.:(

I went to my WW meeting and i'm down another 1.2lbs.:)

Yesterday i did Low Impact circuit: Total body premix (48minutes) I did skip some of the abs exercises and i think i prefer to do Muscle Endurance premixes in the future instead of this premix. I will try one of the cardio premixes from this DVD next time.

Bridget: I understand exactly what you are feeling as i've also hit a slump recently. Just remember to keep checking in and stick with it. Lower the intensity, do shorter workouts, workout less days per week, do what you need to do to get through the slump and you'll be glad you did.

David: Just keep trying to do the workouts and you'll catch on to the choreography. You are right, some fruits spoil much faster than others: I bought some Ontario Peaches last week and had to throw most of them out.:(

Jennifer: Flipsides sound like something i would like! congrats on your continued success!

Phoenix: Good luck with STS. I'm glad you like it so far. Enjoy the rest of your staycation!
