All Step - possibly 'pirated' video?

Recently in a trade on videofitness.com I rec'd All Step. I'm not sure this is an original Cathe. I was wondering if anyone that has this video could tell me if their video is like mine. The first thing I noticed is that when I put the video into my VCR it didn't start right away - which usually all my videos play immediately. I had to press Play to get it to start - which is not a big deal. Then, the workout began immediately. I thought it just wasn't rewound. So I tried to rewind it to the beginning only to find out that was the beginning. Usually, Cathe starts out with some discussion about her workouts and the video itself. There wasn't any of that. And, the sound quality and picture quality are not good. They aren't awful - I can do the video but they certainly are not the quality that I'm used to with a Cathe. The last unusual item was the label on the video states the following:

53 min. All Step workout video

2002 Escalade Sports

There isn't Cathe's name with the signature way she has her name on all her videos.

The video did come in what appears to be the original box.

Can anyone tell me what they think of this? There isn't much I can do but it will confirm my suspisions.

Could be wrong, but I did remember reading/seeing somewhere that she was including one of her videos with the purchase of a step in stores. I think it was All Step...so maybe that's what you got, the complementary copy of the video included in The Step?

I have the DVD version of CTX. It does sound odd that it does not have an introduction. I think the tape did not play immediately (without hitting the 'play' button) due to the erase tab is not pulled off... which is another odd thing. I always thought that most recorded tapes have those tabs pulled off except blank tapes. Anyway, I would be suspicious too. You could e-mail the exchange moderator at VF to 'complain' your suspicions. Usually if there is enough people complaining, they will put the trader in the bad trader list. There have been many incidents people do use pirated videos for trade. HTH.
 
I think Cathe also said that Escalade was in charge of thier own "packaging" of the video when they sold it with the Step...
 
Julie, people are very good these days at making copies of things when they need to make fast money. Did you check that black tab on the bottom of the video, usually when that is still attached you have to hit play. Does sound to me like someone is doing something illegal, but hard to be positive. ... Rhonda
 
When I bought my step it also came with Cathe's All Step and it does have an introduction so this does sound funny to me.

I think I recieved one of those copies too and it was also on a trade at video fitness. The person that traded with me said it came with her step. It was still in the celophane wrapper when I received it but everything you describe is the same as mine. I have used it a few times and the sound and quality are getting worse with wear.

I do believe the woman I traded with was honest about where she got it and I think that they are just making crappy reproductions. (Maybe I am gullable!) Anyway, too bad for Cathe because these tapes surely won't relate the quality and dedication that is her standard.
 
Julie--- I guess there's lots of mixed comments here. I always try to think the best of people. I'm sorry the tape quality wasn't what you were hoping for.

Julie, I bought a second step two months ago. The All Step tape that came with it was of awful quality. Escalade is not producing these up to Cathe standards. I emailed Chris and he gave me the address for Escalade. I called them and they immediately sent me another copy. I still have it in its original cellophane and have not tried it. Your copy sounds like the one I had. It would break up in sound and tracking. Really a bad video. I was concerned for Cathe's reputation and that is why I contacted Chris. You may just have a bad copy like mine. A bummer, indeed.

I got my daughter a step at K Marts and it had the All Step video in it and it starts right into the workout as soon as I put it in.

The video is fine just no intro at all.

It's been probably 1 and 1/2 years ago I got this. Still works well.

I recently made a trade with an individual at VideoFitness. I traded an ALL Step tape for one of hers. I explained to her that the tape came with the Orignal Step I purchase a couple of months ago. The tape I traded did have an Escalade label on it and it does start right into the workout, there is no introduction. The tape I traded though was in good condition, I never used it. I hope this removes some of your suspicion.
 
I rec'd this tape with my step and its exactly as you describe. No intro, just right into the workout and the tape quality is terrible. It has a black and white lable on the top of the tape with what you have written above. I'm sure mine wasn't copied.

Same here. Generic black and white label, no intro to the workout and the tape quality is bad. I just chalked it up to being a "freebie" version that came with my step.
